There is a general lack of respect in society today

Not sure if it has always been this way but as of right now, it is very prevalent.
Rules are put in place for a reason.
"No smoking within 5 metres of doorway" totally ignored.
"Tenant parking only" totally ignored.
"No dumping of unwanted furniture" totally ignored.
"Only recyclables in yellow topped bin" totally ignored.
"Disabled parking only" totally ignored.
"Dogs must be on a a leash at all times" totally ignored.

Ignoring societal rules shows disrespect and contempt. "The rules do not apply to me" is the attitude of these miscreants.

It's true. Out the front of where I live, I'm sure people come from other streets to dump their old furniture. I've complained to the council and even asked if we could have signage out the front saying, "It is Illegal to dump rubbish here, offenders will be prosecuted". Council said YES
they would make up signage, and I haven't seen them since, that was 3 months ago, and more rubbish has appeared overnight.

They always do it in the dead of night because they know it is wrong.
To stop non tenants parking in my car bay I have said - "The next time I see you do this I will ring the towing company to remove your car. I will send them a photo of you illegally parked. Once the towing company has your number plates then you will be liable for recovery costs."
Well, he told me to get f*cked but he has not done it again.

I would edit "totally ignored" to "ignored by some" because in my experience most people do heed such signs. I know I do and so do my friends and family. Methinks you are looking at a molehill and seeing a mountain.

Hubby had a disabled sticker, and when I was driving him somewhere I would park in a disabled parking space but when he was not in the car I never did. For a while I would look for disabled stickers in cars that were taking up disabled spaces and hardly ever saw a car without one.

Now that he is no longer with us, I have handed his sticker back to the NSW Road Traffic Authority.

Warrigal: I too handed my husband's disabled sticker back to Service N.S.W.when he passed. I also asked if I could keep his Driver's Licence because it had his photo on it and the man said, "No and cut it up in front of me". I thought that was an arrogant thing to do. I walked away disgusted with tears in my eyes.

Such a callous thing to say.
Who would be able to use it? Your husbands doppelganger?
There is no requirement to destroy expired drivers licenses.

well not really.

The guy in Bretrick example hasnt done it again - because , despite his rudeness, he knows it will be enforced if Bretrick rings the towing company.

and people parking in disabled parking spaces here without a sticker can and do get fined.
There is a real problem here with large shopping centres car parks. They have disabled parking bays but are never enforced.

The trouble is, many want rules and laws enforced, but on other people! I’ve experienced “No Smoking” postings ignored on bus trips, with zero effort on enforcement made by the driver. Take to the roads almost anywhere, and you’ll see how well posted speed limits are observed… 😩

Alarm! Our societies are just one more step away from total Anarchy. If it's easy to break the laws and agreements we have to get along in our society, then we will fall into chaos. I remember listening to Papa Smurf one day when he said something that seems very relevant here. Translation: "Remember, my little Smurfs, rules are like mushrooms: they’re essential for a healthy village, but sometimes they pop up in unexpected places!”

You are right Bretrick, but I see a significant difference between "lack of respect" and simply being "unwilling to obsessively follow all rules in all situations".

I would love to see a greater level of respect, consideration, and kindness shown among our fellow humans. This might start with an attitude adjustment by the control freaks who are infatuated with "making rules" and then watching like hawks for victims to pounce on.

So true!
Fed up? Feel free to vent here, and get it off your chest!
I was just talking about this.

All of those things happen here too. The parking in disabled parking spots really burns me.
The city of Mississauga here next to Toronto has a FIVE THOUSAND DOLLAR FINE for parking in a handicap parking space without an Ontario Government issued parking permit. Each handicap parking space has a warning sign, with a 24/7 1-800 phone number, that promises a 20 minute response time by the City Parking Control officers. Once the vehicle has been tagged, it is automatically towed to a Police impound lot. The vehicle cannot be released until the owner appears in traffic court, is convicted, and pays the fine. It works. Jimb.

I think we give way too much credit to being human. We're basically high functioning apes, and the "high functioning" part is questionable. Humans don't pay much attention to signs. Like speed limit signs, parking signs, etc. Since I'm in a wheelchair it pi**es me off, when there's a walking, active, obviously well person loading groceries into a car, which is in the handicapped space. ( And before someone says that you can't tell how disabled a person is; if you can walk back and forth, and easily load groceries, you don't need a handicapped space.) Humans are all self-centered idiots. And I don't think that is "Breaking News". We had thousands of years to perfect it.

I was told to "Go F*ck Myself" . I think it 's better that I don't confront these lowlifes ever again.
When we had our home in rural Florida, it sat on nearly an acre of land. People were always cutting across it, which annoyed me because it wasn't public property! So one day I came out and asked the young man cutting across to please respect the no trespassing sign, and he gave me the middle finger.

When I was a child, if my parents caught us behaving this way, we would have been punished, and the property owners apologized to. So, I called Home Depot and arranged for a fence. It is saddening that we had to take such measures.

Where I live if you park in a handicap parking space and you do not have a license plate or placard in the car verifying you are handicapped, you will be ticketed. They do not mess around with this...!

The rest of the issues are not followed here either as you say....

For a while we had a terrible problem with people dumping their old furniture next to the dumpster despite the huge sign saying not to at our condo complex. Mostly renters were doing it and some that didn’t even live here.

We didn’t have a maintenance man for 18 months to get rid of them and it was unsightly with people complaining. Finally we paid a junk removal company to take it. Luckily it hasn’t happened again. If waste management sees furniture in the dumpster they will refuse to take it. Glad I am not on the board anymore.

The Sun & the moon follow their own rules. Dumping stuff means they moved and didn't haul the crap out. People and what they do are easily understood. Tons of people Dumpster dive daily to find stuff. Its what they do. For every leaking Stainless milk bucket there is a guy who can patch it.
