I Think Our Cherry Blossom Tree Is Dying

It is up to management to either have it pruned, if that will solve this issue or cut it down. Years ago they cut down some trees in the courtyard, which upset me. One was right outside our bedroom window and now I realize it may have presented a hazard. But I still see no reason why they cut down the cutest little evergreen tree that was near where this cherry blossom tree is. What do you think is going on with this tree?

Yes 15-20 years on average, but some live to 40 years in optimal conditions and black cherry trees live 250 yrs. They do get diseased so I agree with VintageBetter to call a professional to treat yours if needed. They seem to live forever in Washington DC, a gift from Japan.

@PeppermintPatty is probably right about giving it a chance to live optimally is some pruning. I do think @VintageBetter has the best advice though, consult a local arborist. I know how it feels when you lose your cherry tree. We planted one 2ft. tall, and 6 years later it started producing cherries. For several years we had an abundance of cherries from this one tree. We would pick it about 4 times a season and get many quarts of fresh cherries. We made fruit salads, preserves mainly with them. When it died, we were very sad. :( It looked something like this it its prime....

Apple & Pear trees have an average life span of 30-40 years. I have a Pear tree in my backyard that is at least 70 years old but I think it's closer to 80, based on historical data for this area.
It's still going strong and I do no maintenance to it aside fro pruning dead branches I can reach from the ground.

It's not up to me to call Lara. This is a co-op development and it's up to management to make those kinds of decisions. I do intend to send an email apprising them of the tree's condition though. Management does have a grounds crew come in from time to time, so maybe they'll do whatever is necessary. The tree is in our community's courtyard.

Perhaps mine just suffers from an inexpert radical pruning a few years back. It was done be a general tree guy, not an expert in orchard management.

Still, in the years since then it has borne fruit pretty well. This year though it's looking scraggly and I haven't even see buds or blossoms. Perhaps the weather, perhaps some infestation?
 
We had two redbuds planted in the back about 15 years ago and now one is dead and the other just barely hanging on. The birds seem to be enjoying them though.

We bought a little-leaf linden at the same time and it is now tall and glorious.

The most amazing thing is a tree stump that was at the back corner of our property which had little suckers coming out of it, and now covers an area about 20 feet high and forty feet wide making a nice green privacy fence across half the back yard.

We call it Wild Thang, and we like it so much, just yesterday we all three decided we want our ashes buried under it.

I do both of those things Lara. :D What I pay includes maintenance of common areas but not if something goes in my unit.
