Red Lobster closing restaurants

Applebees, Papa Johns, Outback Steakhouse owned franchises which include several other chains ....those are others off the top of my head I've read about that are closing multiple locations. Starbucks isn't doing well. I just did a search for an article I read recently about the steady increase in closures of mom and pop restaurants but can't find it. Seems restaurants are front line casualties of our economy.

They have been on the decline for years in my opinion.

I prefer locally owned places instead of the chain restaurants

It used to be nice, the local one here. Food was well prepared, wait staff was skilled. Then last time I went there the prices had shot through the roof, food was only so-so, and the wait staff were all pretty new.

So, did they cut wages so the best cooks left? Seemed like it. Same with wait staff, or maybe the most experienced ones could see how things were going with management decisions and bailed when they saw the signs? But I agree - I will have to try out more of these small eateries because IDK what is happening with the large chain restaurants? Too much overhead? IDK.

Eating out has become very expensive overall, IMO.

I will give Red Lobster HIGH MARKS for not being LOUD. That's one of the things I have always liked about it compared to so many other chains. It was never overly LOUD with blaring music played over all the normal talking noise from guests.

Places I will never go because of the noise level: BJ's, anyplace that serves wings, any place that has four or five large screens set up to watch sports. Even if the screens are only in the bar area, for some reason music is blaring in the whole place. It's awful!

Other than the temperature of the food, what makes Red Lobster closing a hot topic?

OK, all kidding aside, restaurants all over the country are having a hard time being profitable enough to survive. I would think that some of the problem can be solved by mechanizing the restaurants cooking and serving process Thus allowing them to employee fewer people. Problem solved?

If it saves the lives of lobsters, I am for it. It just bothers me how they are "prepared". OMG how barbaric and don't tell me they don't feel the pain. My Grandmother tried to convince me of that and I didn't believe her either. This is just a personal thing. OK? But it bothers me to think of it.

ya know .... I tend to agree with you. As for the pain part ....... I do not know what their pain sensory system is ..... but it seems it would have to hurt like all hell.

I fixed live lobster once, when their eyes turn white they ready. I really have no real need.
Crawdads & Medium uncooked Shrimp work well in Fisherman stew. I remember S.C.
and people lined up in the parking lot for fresh shrimp. We have a place here, play Pool
with the kids and have Catfish dinner and Cheddar Cheese Borcalli soup. Frog Leggs in
season. They have more menu, just what we like. Mushrooms, fried green beans, etc.

Or the pandemic?

Or the pandemic?

The mom and pop closings I read about were very recent and due to food costs. They said customers had less disposable income for eating out after buying groceries and that they (owners) lost more of their customer base as they increased the price of menu items to keep up with their costs of ingredients.

many start with a good product idea that is tasty - throw in polite staff and ya made - these things can decay over time and bad management??

In case you ever need this Lobster hack ...
"Before cooking live lobsters, place them in a freezer for approximately 10 to 20 minutes. The cold will put them to sleep so they don't feel the heat or any pain when you boil them."

It's a win-win! They die without stress or pain; you get a great meal (y)

A few months ago I posted about Red Lobster's Lobster Lovers Dream (I think that is what it was called) that cost about $51. Now Outback has a steak and lobster (tail) special for $19.99. Seems like a better deal.

I have great meals anyway. Thanks. I couldn't torture a living creature to death just for a meal. I'm okay with never eating lobster again. Truly. :giggle: (y)

wot about fish - don't they start dying once pulled on deck with no water?? then we could move onto pigs and cows getting hit with a stun gun? - we humans are cruel baswards when it comes to eating
