There are no right or wrong answers to this question because it's all a matter of opinion, but who was / is the greatest rock group of all time???

I've got to say the Beatles. They weren't my favorite group but they had such an impact globally. During their years together they outsold everyone else in the rock world, had more #1 hits, made more movies. Everyone talked about Beatlemania. It was real. The Beatles were incredible. Their rock crossed over generations. Even my parents liked "Yesterday".

#2 The WHO is my personal favorite group because they seemed to be the most creative while reflecting the anger, boredom, and rebellion of teens during their time accurately. They were the first to attempt rock opera which was a cool journey not attempted previously in my memory. And Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend are still alive which keeps them semi relevant 60+years later. Won't Get Fooled Again is my personal favorite rock song of all time and remains my anthem.

#3 And Led Zeppelin because of the changes they brought to radio that have remained with us. Prior to the advent of Led Zep, music radio was all about hit songs and top of the charts, largely 2 min songs. Led Zeppelin ushered in album rock which was featured on their albums which became huge sellers. Their long album hits were huge in my area of the country where there are lots of colleges and universities and people wanted to engage in other activities during album listening as did the djs who played those ballads. It was like discovering something new.

Once the change came, it stayed.

So who were/are your favorite band(s) of all time?

Greatest of all time... had to be the Beatles.. not that I was ever a fan of them , particularly, but they certainly paved the way for all rock bands to follow...

My personal favourite band of all time was /is Mike and Mechanics...

My personal favourite Duo... who influenced just about every singer that came after them, and they all mention them as being their influence ... was/is The Everly Brothers.. even tho' they were of my mothers Era...

Great analysis of the three bands and I do think they were the greatest 3 rock bands of all time.

I hit my teens a few years later so my favorites do reflect that.

The Eagles
Fleetwood Mac
Talking Heads
The Clash
U2

Those are the bands that took me through my early teens up through my late 20's. Of course there were many more that I liked.

Mike and Mechanics...
Just woke up so forgive me if I'm wrong but didn't they do "In the Living Years?" A very very meaningful song. It is so meaningful I can no longer listen to it.........don't have the emotional guts to hear the lyrics anymore.

Beatles. Of course. But even they would say they rest on the greatness of RnB. We all stand on each other's shoulders for every progression in Life, don't we?

if you'd ever been there as I have, you wouldn't have chosen that...off topic on greatest literal rocks..I would have chosen Ayers Rock Australia...

yes they were the geniuses behind that song.. Mike Rutherford lead singer originally from Genesis ... and frontman ( then ) Paul Carrack.. the man with the golden voice , and the singers' singer.. who had come to prominence as the lead singer of ACE ( How Long has this been going on) which was a hit for the ban in the 70's..... he sang lead on Living years, and Over My shoulder with Mike & the Mechanics.. and so many other bands.. as well as being a solo singer
