Top loaders are still popular here Holly, at least at our house.

To replace our 25+ year old Whirlpool set I purchased mama a new Speed Queen TR7 and DR7 washer and dryer set last Aug....a little pricey but mama is tickled pink and that's all that matters.

nice machines but they haven't been popular here in probably 40 years.. you can still by the odd one , but they're rare in anyone's home now..

Just in case something comes up again, I use the local library. They have a big scanner that will do those big jobs (or small). The thing lets me email the file to my personal email and also to the receiving party. I then place my emails into folders for storage at home. The library scanner also sends the confirmation sheet for my records. I also use this same machine if I need to send a fax, I send the fax and confirmation to my email as well.

I don't have a printer at home so the rare times I need a copy I use their computer and printer.
I know, I was told this.. but on the very day I was supposed to have it all scanned and uploaded, and bare in mind I live in a semi rural area... so it would have meant driving there.. and then perhaps finding out theirs didn't work, or didn't have one.. I couldn't risk wasting that precious time, and then still having to come home and try and do it myself..

of course if I;d known the other party wasn't going to stick to the agreed time for exchange then that would have been different..

Taking care of four dogs.

Since I have the window open, I am constantly hearing the hawk chicks/fledglings screaming for more food. They have a very high pitched, nerve-wrecking shriek that I call, "the cry of the wild."

My big guy just kept pushing my arm. From experience I know it means something is bugging him, and he is asking me for help. I looked around, and yes, the Beagle guest was lying on his bed. OK, I solved the problem by moving that puppy to another dog bed.

Left: My daughter asked me not to let the Beagle in the garden and get dirty (like fox tails) because at night the puppy sleeps with my grandson. So, I let mine out but kept the Beagle inside. However, all of them have already bonded, and my pups kept waiting at the door for the Beagle to come outside as well. Since I couldn't do that, and after waiting for half an hour, I let my pups again back in. Right: it's bad enough when two pups are washing my face, but I am suffocating when all four do it simultaneously (I couldn't take a picture as I was trying to save my life.)

Playtime is bonding time
2024-05-21 c.jpg

Left: My 95 pound guy was playing with the 35 pound Beagle puppy like crazy till both were exhausted. Right: walking with my pups is happiness; they are well disciplined and absolutely loyal. My big guy will attack anyone who gives me a dirty look. But then add a young Beagle puppy with no discipline, nose on the ground, pulling till my arm hurts, and it becomes "Mission Impossible." Well, towards the end of our one hour walk the puppy became tired and well behaving. I like the little squirrel and offerd my daughter to take care of her puppy the next time they go camping.

Good Lord, how big is your kitchen floor ?...:D
Just the area where the new appliance will go. I have a galley kitchen with a breakfast room on one side. Believe me, it is not a Texas size kitchen. The only thing I have in there I love is a double oven and now I don't have anyone to cook for.

Now you know any man, or boy for that matter, can inhale a entire meal in five minutes it takes to sweep and mop under the fridge or washer/dryer.

None of you are going to believe this...:eek::eek: it's 2am.. 30 minutes ago I went downstairs to the kitchen and my kitchen is flooded. The water is pouring, and I mean pouring hard.. from the ceiling.... all down the walls like a waterfall... 😩 I had to dash to ring an emergency plumber, I can't because of my OA, I can't even turn the water off at the stop cock, I just don't have the strength in my hands to do it..

they said they'll get here asap but it could be 2 hours... in the meantime in just 30 minutes every Bath towel that I've laid on the counters and on the floors are soaked, dripping wet.. soaked !!...the water is running right into some electric sockets as well....

I cannot believe this.. and there's nothing more I can do I've just got to sit and wait for the plumber...

I think I must have walked under someone's ladder this week.. jeezus !

Been there and done that more than once. I was lucky the last time needed to turn off the water at the street it was in the early morning. My nextdoor neighbor is an early riser and happened to see me out there, came to help. He finally got it off but the water department came out to take a look and said it was damaged, not my fault. They put in a new one no charge.

Did you check the water heater, that was what blew at my house. Also check the toilets upstairs, can you turn any off those off? It may at least stop the flood.

I have checked the upstairs toilets and bathroom, but there's no obvious leak from there... but the guy on the phone said sometimes it's not obvious but it could still be leaking from there. I think what's going to happen is the emergency plumber will come and just turn it all off and make things safe until another plumber comes in the daytime. I hope he's not much longer I'm literally running out of towels.. I've used 11.. so far, full size Bath towels, even my brand new Turkish towel which is the size of a sheet, yet that got as soaked as the others just as quickly, I thought that might hold a little more water. I'm more afraid of the electrics blowing because the water is running right into the sockets..

It's now 2.20 am.. and today is My very important day for the Exchange of documents... 🥺

I woke up around 2:50 a.m., did a little of this and that, took a shower and made my before sunrise prayer. I proceeded to dig out the clothes I intended to wear to the waterfront park and get my tote bag ready. About two hours before I would have left to catch the train, I had a mild episode of A-fib which I'm still feeling. Though it was mild, it sapped me of energy and I would not have been able to walk the park. I stayed home and slept on and off for a good part of the day.

Before my son got home, I did some shredding. The shredder is in the studio, his sanctuary, so I didn't want to be making noise after he got in. Tonight I trimmed my nails and put a coat of Hard As Nails on them. I still have to load the dishwasher and handwash Deja's bowls.

It's difficult getting my wife's birthday celebration right. So, we are doing it piecemeal. Yesterday we had lunch at the Mission Inn. Today everyone went to Disneyland although I stayed at home. It's not worth it paying almost $200 when I am too old for even a kiddy ride. Instead, I prepared a "sweet" homecoming for them. My wife loves strawberry pies. Driving to buy the pies, I took the pups with me because they love driving, always getting so excited. And the last picture is my grandson sleeping with (squashing) his puppy. The two are inseparable. I think the puppy is now 1 ½ years old.

Flashback: when my daughter was 7 years old, I scolded her. When it got dark and she hadn't come back into the house, I started looking for her in the garden. Finally I heard something in the doghouse. I listened, and here my daughter cried and complained to our Doberman how cruel dad is. When I peeped in, the Dobie was licking and licking my daughter's face. I think children need to have a variety of relationships. And I think dogs sense our emotions better than we give them credit for.

We were embarrassed when our little children called us in public by our first names. So, my wife and I
started calling each other Mom and Dad for the kids sake, and that stuck till today.

Unbelievable. D*mn and double d*mn. It’s a ‘when it rains it pours kind of day’. Literally. Keep your computer and documents safe.

The plumber and the electrician have just left . It's now 2.55am.... They checked everywhere in my house where it could possibly be leaking, especially the toilet directly above and they said that it's coming from NEXT door... I had to knock next door, at past 2am.. and ask him if he's got a leak.. and he HAD/Has.. and he'd been trying to deal with it for the last hour.. he said it was a burst pipe... but of course he wasn't aware that it had leaked right through into my house, literally destroying all the paintwork on the dividing wall...

So there we were in the pitch dark on the doorsteps and pouring rain, with my plumber and electrician, and my neighbour in his vest and shorts, .. and my plumber couldn't do anything for him because he's a tenant, and so he has to call his landlord in the morning...

My Insurance now will have to cover the repair to my kitchen... the maintenance company that I use will send a painter out this week to re-paint my kitchen...
:(

I wish I smoked or drank alcohol or something... let me calm down...

Wow, I'm SO sorry this happened! I just hope your damage is minimal and is only limited to repainting. :(

So do I SD.... , In the meantime, the electrician, opened up the 3 electric sockets under the leak, dried them out, and he's left the sockets about 1/4 an inch away from the wall to allow them to continue to dry out.

I hope you can get some sleep What a day you’ve had!

They were so efficient, and fast, even taking the time to talk to my neighbour.. who is a young guy in his 40's.. and explaining what he'll have to do. Fortunately they didn't have to turn the water off, because my neighbour had by then discovered his burst pipe and was able to stop it off.

I asked him how he found it, because at this time of night he's always asleep.. he has 3 young kids, and he has to be up for work at 6am.. he said he though it was heavy rain, he could hear it when he was asleep so he got up to have a look, he said he'd got an inch of water in his bathroom floor... .. I told him he'd have had 2 inches but I got an inch of it...

The plumber said, ok.. you can go and get some sleep now... ...but I can't sleep I'm too hyped by it... it'll take me now a couple of hours to be able to even think of sleeping... ..whereas my neighbour looked absolutely worn out, through lack of sleep...

I'm so sorry you have to go through this HD! Been there, done that a few times while living here. A couple of times water leaked from the vent over my stove from my neighbor on the second floor. One time it was because my neighbor on the third floor had water pouring from her tub (I guess) that at first she didn't admit to when our board VP went upstairs to inquire! Water came down through my ceiling fan and flooded the hallway. The worst was not long after I moved in because a lazy maintenance man who lived on site didn't do anything about an increasingly bad leak from the pipes in my walk in closet (yep, there are pipes in my clothes closet). Long story, I'll tell it another time.

I'm glad getting your kitchen painted is all set up. I hope your insurance pays for most of your damage. I assume you have a deductible. Amazing that you got a plumber and electrician to come out that time in the morning! I don't understand how a leak caused by your next door neighbor could be coming from your celling and down walls. Was it from a 2nd floor sink, tub or faucet?

yes I live in a semi-detached property so my neighbour and I share a dividing wall.. like this..

My house on the right of the picture, tenants on the left as you look at the picture... We share a kitchen wall and the upstairs toilet wall... as well as one bedroom wall (the front left bedroom as you look at the picture ) So my kitchen wall and my toilet wall above are adjoining their kitchen and bathroom at the back... and because he had a burst pipe in his bathroom it leaked right down through into his kitchen and into mine...

It was literally pouring through, and we have brick walls...

His landlord is a notorious tightwad.. he owns many properties in the area, and charges as much as he can for them and then does very few repairs, and my neighbour said he's had enough.. that he's had several things go wrong just in the last few weeks, and the Italian Landlord has not sent anyone to repair things..and the neighbour is fed up to the back teeth.

It was the same with the previous tenant who was a retired university Lecturer, he said he couldn't get the landlord to do any work in there... when things went wrong or he did it completely on the cheap..

I must say I did not realize your home was so modern looking. In my mind I had pictured an beautiful Tudor style home/cottage with the fabulous garden you have. Also, the countryside where you take all those lovely photos remind me of living in a fairy land.

that's not my house in the picture I was just posting a picture from google pics, describing the semi-detached situation.... these are many different styles of houses in the village. some ultra-modern worth several Million pounds.. others' much older, many detached some semi detached, and there a sprinkling of flats..... like these the houses in my village..
