They also give away promotions to members such as weekly $10 bonus points for playing the slot machines.

We go maybe once a Month, so far I am about $300 ahead using their money!! bananapowerslide.gif

One opened near me at an indian reservation 25 years ago. I can count on 1 hand the number of times I have been. Just not into it. The first time, I went with a group primarily to try a restaurant that had good reviews. As we left, I said I brought $20 to blow on slots machines. My group was in a hurry to leave so I went to the $5 machine just to blow it quick. On my final pull I won $300. :)

Every pub and licensed club in NSW is basically a casino, complete with poker machines, Keno and other invitations to gamble. We also have one proper casino and another one coming on line soon.

This is the website of my club - Revesby Workers' Club - but I never bother with any gambling. Hubby and I do occasionally have a meal there. For a while we were members of the gym but knee and back problems got the better of us. The annual fess are very low. http://rwc.org.au/services/

In NY, we have them all around us. One called Turning Stone, run by the Oneida Nation. It is huge and still growing. Then there is the Vernon Downs Racino, a moderate size casino overseen by NYS.
The Oneidas own several SaveOn gas stations and they are installing video slots in them, too.

In Florida, the closes casino is the Hard Rock Casino just outside Tampa. About a two hour drive from the east coast. We go maybe once a year if money is available.

I've been to Las Vegas a couple of times. Loved the slot machines. Last time they had done away with all the nickel machines.
Anything beyond a nickel is too rich for my blood.:)

The interesting thing to me was the folks with big buckets of coins that play them like robots. It doesn't look like they enjoy it.
More like they want to get it over with as quickly as possible.

I thought I might try my hand as a professional blackjack player upon retiring as it had the best odds against the house. I read the books and practiced with my companion to bring down the Foxwoods casino in CT, but a trip to Vegas where a daughter of my companion was living and dating a pro changed my mind. He worked long hours to make over 30K a year, and was banned from many casinos even though he wasn't counting cards...

I used to go to Vegas every year, now only go occasionally, mostly for the shows, food and shopping, I'm not much of a gambler, I like to keep my money in my grubby little hands or spend it on something I can wear.

I went to Vegas many times to play in chess tournaments as they offered great package deals for large groups at Ballly's. My companion was shocked when she came to see me play and I was playing a little girl holding her Teddy. I had to explai that I was not a top level player and the children were prodigies...

We go to the casinos about twice a month...a 2 or 3 day trip up to Kansas City every month to visit the kids, and we get free hotel and meal offers at Harrah's and/or Ameristar. Then, between KC trips we go to the Isle of Capri in Boonville, just a short drive from here. We budget how much we take, and if we lose, we stop. I watch our annual Win/Loss statements, and over the years time, we don't "donate" any more than if we took a nice week/10 day vacation. So, on balance, we get about 30 days/year break from the routine, for less than taking one big trip. We go to Las Vegas about once every 3 years, but again, we've "played" long enough that our rooms and meals are complimentary, so the only extra expense is the flight out/back.

I once had the "dream" of buying into the World Series of Poker, and going after the 10 million dollar prize, but at my age, I can only stand about 3 or 4 hours at a poker table anymore...far less than the 7 long days needed to reach the final table.

We have four casinos in our small county and no,no a thousand times NO,we do not frequent them. One has an excellent restaurant with an awesome 8.95 Prime Rib dinner on Saturday nights that we do go to on occasion-but only if we take the kiddos with us. Why? Because they don`t take reservations,so when you go to be seated, they tell you it is an hour wait. Place half empty-hmmm. But if you have kids with you, miraculously they can seat you right away. They just want you to gamble for awhile. I get that that`s their business but no thanks. Now,if we go to Lake Tahoe or Reno,we will do some gambling, but not at the local casinos here.

We have a casinos a couple of miles from my house.I've been once when I went with my son and my grandson. My son and I watch a band play. My grandson won four hundred dollars and none of have been back. Mickey Rafael, harmonica player for Willie Nelson offered me tickets twice when Willie was playing the casinos. I turned him down because by then I could not drive at night. When I lived in Lubbock I went to the Inn of the Mountain Gods a couple times a year and I used to go to Vegas once a year. The only thing I ever won any money playing was Keno. Over all, I'm a small time loser.

You're 100% right about the robotic players of the poker machines. It is an hypnotic experience after a while.

I enjoyed Vegas the 5 or 6 months we lived there while my husband was on jobs there. We usually stayed on the strip and my sister-in-law lived there so we spent the day walking around. We played slot machines some and back then we used to find credits and play them and even a few coins in the trays people forgot to take out. We had a security guard walk towards us a few times but when we got up and left they just let it go. We used to go there for week ends too but my sister-in-law died, my brother retired and moved away and we haven't been back in 5 or so years. After Vegas, South Lake Tahoe and Reno the local casinos don't interest me at all.
