There are many people who love the smell of freshly cut grass

The smell released by damaged grass blades, a combination of methanol, acetaldehyde, ethanol, and acetone is akin to human tears.
The grass is sending out a distress call - "Help, I am being attacked and this makes me sad(the grass is sad). Woe is me, who will come to my assistance"?

Ladybirds are tuned to respond to this distress call and will come from all around to do their best to soothe the distressed grass. Any aphids around? Their days are numbered.
There are no beetles large enough to attack and destroy the grasses number one predator - the Lawn Mower - Yet.

Never really thought much about the smell of fresh cut grass.
Mowing was a 'chore'.

Now that I can sit on the deck and watch the person on the ride mower doing the job,
I now enjoy the smell.

Also, if I'm having an IPA, it adds to the Hops smell and I can live with that.

Awwww! This makes me sad.
We switched to lithium battery lawn mower and no longer get that freshly cut grass scent. It also doesn’t leave a grass stain on my shoes. I’m hoping that means it’s less harmful to the grass.

I think you have the grasses interests at heart. More people need to treat grass humanely.

Funny thing...when DH and I moved back to the UP, it was the smell of freshly cut grass there that made me feel like I was really back home. The smell of grass in Georgia isn't the same as the smell of grass in the UP. Down here grass gets mowed all year round. Up there mowed grass means it's summer.

I think many people feel this way. It seems like when one neighbour mows the lawn, everyone else comes out to mow theirs too.

Coming from northern Illinois to Texas 47 years ago, I still miss three things: Italian Beef Sandwiches, the smell of Lilacs, and the smell of new mown grass.

Here in southeast Texas you will not find a suitable Italian Beef, Lilacs won't grow here, and the prevalent grass is St. Augustine, which is an invasive grass look alike that is on runners (vs. individual blades).

I miss the smell of grass as my horses ate it. Oh, the smell was amazing! Even freshly mowed grass was not as fragrant. Must be the chewing did it.

So it is a natural thing for grass to be cut and eaten by animals. I've also seen rabbits
eating grass.

I haven't mowed yet this year so you are reminding me I need to get out there and do it. I actually enjoy doing it once I can get myself started. Yes, I like the smell too. Sometimes I have wild onions in the yard and get to smell them when I mow.
