Our version of retirement: Living a childhood dream

Thank you, Starry
The plan is to fill that horrendous back yard with raised beds and wood or rock walk ways (little to no mowing)
That has been my plan for years. I had more trouble weeding the rock paths and beds than mowing. I even use a double layer of that black screening material under the rocks, but with the wind here we get lots of dirt, seed pods, and weeds blow in and way too much work to try and blow the dirt out of the rocks. The screening weed shield does make weeding easier as the offending weeds, trees, and grasses do not root very deep. The problem arises with me getting down. I can still do it, but certainly not happy about the after effects. If my yard wasn't so big, I would have raised beds made with concrete blocks, waist high, and concrete paths. I wouldn't mind weeding standing up.

Yeah, those that take root on the surface are easy pulling
That mesh has worked well for us

I'm torn on what to do with the rest of the weeds (poor man's lawn)
I built six raised bedscorn.jpg

But the back yard is rather large

I so missed the deciduous trees when living at the cabin

Most folks rake up all the leaves in fall
I
cherish them

But that's fall

Right now, the petals from the maples are falling

For me, it's like sprinkles on a cupcake

Neighbors are busy blowing them off their decks and walkways

Me?

I just enjoy them

The roses are stunning, Gary!
We inherited them when we bought the adjoining property
The yellow rose is my lady's favorite flower
(A true Texas gal)

I think these are called Oregon Trail Roses

maybe 'Harison's

Whatever they are, they sure have filled a large portion of that lot
No complaints
Thinking about filling the remainder of that lot with flowers
Maybe wild flowers

I've found that the pulverized granite pathways I like so much are preferred seed starting substrate for lots of weeds. But I just hoe them out periodically without disturbing it all that much. It still saves me lots of watering and lots of valuable water.

How the cyclone fence got its name......
iu

"The fascinating origins of how the cyclone fence acquired it’s distinctive name lie in the remarkable resilience it exhibits against the mighty forces of nature. These sturdy fences, widely recognized for their unique design featuring evenly spaced diamond-shaped holes, owe their title to their extraordinary capacity to withstand the furious onslaught of gale-force winds, particularly those unleashed by tropical storms."
iu
"Betwixt the intricately linked wires lies a secret that provides an ingenious solution to the potential destruction caused by turbulent winds. Rather than succumbing to the tempestuous gusts, the cyclone fence bravely channels the unrestrained energy, enabling the winds to effortlessly pass through it’s strategically placed apertures, ingeniously preventing the tearing asunder of this formidable barrier from it’s sturdy posts." That’s a lot of beautiful white roses. Do they smell nice ? What type are they?
I think they are yellow
We catch their scent in our main yard with a southerly breeze

No argument
Might very well be

Haven't met aa rose I didn't love
Me neither I love them all. Our huge dog rose we found at the side of the road all clipped down to a big rootball so we scooped and planted it. It turned into a huge bush like you have and I could smell it if I left my bedroom window open. Now we are scooping wild dog roses from the side of the rose and planting them. I’m hoping they grow as nice as yours but probably not. Yours are truly lovely. I’m a tad jealous. lol

Love those finds
Roses are so resilient
We never need to water these
Guess because they are so established
