Speaking Your Mind
Why do so many get their nose out of joint when others speak their mind & perceive what is said as an affront to their country or person?Lighten up, take it with a grain of salt and respond with clear thought and less anger or emotion. There are many points of view on a wide range of subjects and we can all learn and grow by not necessarily accepting some one else's point of view, but by respecting their point of view.

I agree Lon, better not to give anything more power than it really has and don't sweat the small stuff. Not everyone is going to have the same opinions and points of view as we have ourselves, it's human nature, nothing to fret about. :peace:

So this is the weekly “Everyone is entitled to their opinion”, “We all don’t have to agree” thread. Nothing new. I would hope all that would go without saying.

Back to speaking your mind. It is important to remember, when one does "speak their mind", he/she/it must expect others to do likewise.

Thank goodness for the ignore button :) for SOME who I feel ruin an otherwise good interesting post by running off at the mouth.. By not allowing others to have a point of view :rolleyes-new:

Who's Foul?

"I figure we should be able to say what we want"

Me too! I miss my everyday fits of cussing and fuming, while logged in here! imp

Where is, and what is, this "ignore" button? Can it be used against one's self? imp

No Imp, you can't use it against yourself! If there's someone you want to ignore, you go to their profile page and click on 'add to ignore list'. Honestly, I've never put anyone on ignore, don't think it's necessary.

It’s a great tool to eliminate screen clutter. Some people display a "pattern". ;) Think of it as having to walk down the street and climb over litter/trash. Using the ignore feature allows you to walk down a clear, clean sidewalk.

Yeah, I would think that would interfere with being a moderator. Ignoring posts would mean you can't see/moderate what they're saying.

Same here Sea. Why bother with an ignore button? Simply IGNORE that person.
I have never used it on this forum but on another one I have used a similar feature with someone so irritating to me that I want to have a go at them for their stupid posts, even though they themselves are not stupid. What I find irritating others may find amusing so it's best that I tune out for the sake of harmony on the forum.

The funny thing is that I can see that they have posted and can choose to display if I want to. I always do, but the delay means I am ready for the nonsense and it no longer sets me off. All good.

I know of several members who no longer come here because they got tired of so many thread discussions going way off topic. Certain members have a habit of using the discussion threads as their own personal “lol” chat room and flirt session. Ick.

I think instead of leaving they would have been better off just using ignore feature, but they figured ‘why bother’. However, just as everyone is entitled to their opinion and (for the most part) to say what they please here at SF, no one is obligated to read everything that everyone posts.

People use the ignore feature for any number of reasons; I don't see why anyone would get bent out of shape about it unless they're insecure or just want to bicker.

I agree Imp we should be able to say what we think.... I do .......however it's not fair to throw INSULTS at members for making a simple comment!!! that's where I draw the line And hit the ignore button...... ..or it's just as easy to scroll past their posts and simply not respond to them :cheers1:

Well, I wasn't a moderator for the first couple of years here, and I never had the desire to ignore anyone like that. Never used it on other forums either.

"hy do so many get their nose out of joint when others speak their mind"

Because far too many people see "speak their mind" as a euphemism for being damned rude and offensive.

There's a bunch over here who are fond of saying, "I'm from Yorkshire and I speak my mind."

What they really mean is that they're pig ignorant!
