Favorite teachers from your school days

Most of my teachers were "Sister Mary ******", since I went to Catholic school. It was a small school- 23 kids in my graduating class. So, I had the same nuns for 4 years. We got to know their real names, and a lot about them- their quirks, etc. I was with them more than with my mom & dad, so I developed a great affection for them.

We've had this topic before on here.. and always I will say that my favourite teacher was my English teacher, she was American from One of the Carolinas.. can't remember which one. She had a real drawl of an accent.. and I have 3 syllables in my name... and she would say it like it was 20 letters long.... I'm sure you 'muricans who know that accent can imagine.

She was my best teacher out of all the teachers, really took the time to make sure we understood the subject.. rather than our other teachers who , if you didn't understand the first time.. they were going to just concentrate on those who did
All four of our children had a teacher whose nickname among the kids was Screaming Carol. She maintained strict discipline in her classes. As years went by I noticed when attending school events that students long since graduated and married would seek that teacher out and go talk with her. It was very evident that the impression she left with her students was one of respect and affection.

My favourite teachers were, by far, my grade 6 and 7 teachers. When I got to grades 6 and 7 we changed classes to get taught by different teachers and some of these were definitely very cool teachers.

In grade 6 we went on a week long camping trip. One of the places we went was inverhuron provincial park and it was a park I camped at for most summers with my parents so I got to help with the camping plans which was mega cool. Our teachers were way different on this trip than they were teaching classes. Some of them even smoked up with some students. I wasn’t one of them but knew what it was and kept my mouth shut about it.
It was a very fun trip.

Then in grade 8 we did a student exchange program. Someone from Alberta got to stay with us for a numbers of days ( I forget how many ) and we stayed with them. My student exchange person lived on a farm so while there I learned a lot about farming. They also used fresh goats milk in place of store bought cows milk which I never quite adjusted to.

We took a greyhound bus with a bathroom on it all the way and stayed at the nicest hotels available. We visited the Banff hot springs and went to the Vancouver zoo. We saw some fabulous museums and dined at ritzy restaurants. We flew home on one of the nicest airplanes. I can definitely say that I really grew up during that 3 week vacation. It was one of the most exciting things I ever did. I got along with everyone really well. It was a trip of a lifetime. Best teachers ever.

My favorite high school teacher was Mr. Kendig, who was my chemistry teacher. Like me, he enjoyed making things go BANG!

Wow, that really was special! In my 17 years of school (5 different ones) I never went on any trip of any kind.

None at all; not even day trips? We went on day trips too. Dairy farm, Billy Bee honey factory, The Toronto zoo were some of our day trips. It was a great school. I am very lucky.

I did not like any of my teachers/ professors, all the way through graduate school except my third-grade teacher. She, Mrs. Wilson, took the time to work with all of us and was never mean to anyone. She had a way about her, that allowed her to keep the kids under control without yelling or threatening. She was born to teach! Don't get me wrong, I had many good teachers and a few great professors, but I did not like them for various reasons.

Sadly, not even a day trip (or hour trip). I do recall getting a guest to a science class. He was from Bell Labs (?) and demonstrated a solar cell. Given this was in the early/mid '50s, it was pretty darn impressive.

No idea whatsoever.. She was married.. well she was called Mrs C.... that's all I know. She never said why she was in Scotland.. and we kids were always taught not to ask adults questions... that said there are a lot of Americans in Scotland working on the oil rigs, so maybe she had a husband working there.... looking back she was probably in her mid to late 30's.. when I was between 13 and 15..so if she was still alive today she's be 90 or more.. Hard to imagine her being that age...:D
Thanks for the clarification holly. I think you are right, people/kids would ask today. Back then, things were different.

My favorite teacher was Miss Snyder. She went through her divorce while teaching at our school. That started a lot of rumors flying. She was very pretty and a well built woman, so the rumors were not very nice. Lots of guys drooled over her. I played football and basketball. She was the cheerleader coach and I was dating one of the cheerleaders. At the end of cheerleader practice, she would wait for me because I would drive her home. On Fridays, I couldn't take her home because I would leave after lunch and go to work, so I asked a friend of mine if he would take her home since he goes her way and she didn't like taking the bus.

Someone passed me a note on Monday and it read that he saw Belinda (my GF) kissing my friend that took her home on Friday. The note read that they were in a long lip lock. I thought it was from someone trying to make trouble so I showed it to her. She started crying and that's when I knew it was for real. She said she was sorry and wanted to tell me all weekend.

She said she didn't want us to breakup, but if I did, she would understand, I told her Ok, good-bye and I walked away. I think she was in shock because she just stood there for quite awhile. It was maybe a week before we spoke to each other. She kept asking me to call her and kept shaking my head "no."

Miss Snyder taught Advanced Math. I will admit that I was a bit of an egghead. A lot of what I learned came naturally without too much studying. During my Sophomore and Junior year, I also took summer classes to get ahead of everyone else. During my Senior year, I only had 2 classes. English and P.O.D. or Problems of Democracy. P.O.D. was a major subject and we studied about other country's governments. There were 8 classes a day, so I had a lot of study periods. Of course, we had 2 classes per week of Phys. Ed. and also the same for Music or Art, your choice.

Luckily, Friday after lunch, I had no classes, so I left for the day and went to work.

My favorite elementary teacher was ,Mrs Haddad, she was terrific
I had failed 4th grade, luckily I had her again for all of my classes. She knew math was a real struggle for me was extremely patient/helpful to me.
