I am preparing to drive ( husband driving) about an hour and a half to a surgery center to have laser surgery on my left eye. I will have to have full anesthesia but will be able to return home this afternoon.
This is an attempt to slow down my glaucoma progression.
I know it’s necessary but sure wish I could just stay home.

It would be fine if we could go back to the olden days but with today's knowledge, and surgeries could be done on the kitchen table!

There's a story in my family My father who for all his nasty faults.. was a hard worker.

When I was a tiny tot.. my father had been working almost around the clock.. and with very little sleep. His hand got injured and ultimately was swollen with poison but he wouldn't take time off to see a doctor.. After one week of almost solid work, and little sleep.. he collapsed over dinner at the kitchen table, and my mother called the doctor , who lanced his hand right there at the table , and dressed it, and my father never opened an eye.. he slept all the way through it..

Chilly morning here , 46 when we got up,,now into the 50's, overcast sky.

I think Mac has the thinnest hair of all our Bostons.
He's got his nose buried in a heavy towel & hubby laid a pair of his shorts over him .

The 'gel' shots that hubby had in his left knee don't seem to be helping.
He's considering knee surgery.
It's the long recovery time that is making him rethink it.

One of his firewood customers is stocking up on wood already.
We usually have couple of customers that order their winter supply in June.

Wish one of our sons would pay us a surprise visit.
Hubby having problems with lawn mowers & atvs.

Waiting on washer to finish so the next load can be started. I just want to get it over with and get the stuff folded and put away. There are dishes to be washed, flowers to be deadheaded, bathroom waiting to be cleaned.

Also sitting here second-guessing my on-again-off-again decision to quit working. EF isn't where I'd like it to be, but I really just plain don't want to be there anymore. More and more I've been stuck with things that really aren't my responsibility but need to be done because Sir isn't doing them. Remember that I'm not authorized to do much of it so it just doesn't get done at all. I ask myself why I'm trying to carry his water, yanno? He's really a nice guy, and I like him a lot, but where do I draw the line?

ETA: I've already adjusted my tax withholding forms online so that the next five paychecks won't have anything extra withheld. In the past, not enough was withheld so that I've had to pay at tax time. I added an extra $20/week at first, which barely covered the shortfall, then in anticipation of the increase in pay on July 1, added another $5/week. Leaving now means that I won't be there for half the year, making my tax bill much lower.

Sigh. What to do?

you draw the line exactly where you've drawn it yesterday. You're in your 80's.. this ''nice guy'' expects you to carry the can for all of the younger ones.. or no staff at all. despite your requests time and time again for help it's not forthcoming. You're tired.. you can keep upping the amount of emergency fund limit forever, but it will be no good to you if you drop dead.. through overwork..

Men have upper arm strength most females can't even dream of. I saw my father, 5'9" and under 130 lbs lift a sofa by himself, over his head, & carried it up a flight of stairs. I also almost doubted my own eyes. It was a full sofa, not a love seat. Regular size.
There are several factors, from bone density to muscle fiber patterns to myoglobin levels and beyond. No shocker here.

All of this is subject to loss of advantage over time though, starting even before "middle age."

You're right. I am tired, and Sir has had 2 1/2 years of smooth sailing with me there to pick up the his slack.

When I finally give notice, if they ask me why I'm just going to say I'm tired, not going to throw him under the bus. After all, I started working at 14. That's almost 70 years with just a few short breaks here and there but never for very long.

yes but some stay strong far into older age than other. Example..my soon2Bx is very strong and he's in his 60's..

He has amazing upper body strength.. altho' even he couldn't have throw that washer into the truck..

I love living here at Canterbury Woods- Gates Circle. I don;t know where the time has gone, this Weds it will be 2 weeks.
Today 2 of my other friends from Tudor Plaza, Mary&Jean are coming for lunch. I can't wait to see them.I still get the emails sent to residents considering I haven't sold my apt yet. Patrick told me he's listing the apt on Weds hopefully it will sell by end of summer

2 weeks ???... :eek:already ?.. I cannot believe how fast time goes..

Morning gal's and guy's !!! I'm up and at it, more or less...breakfast is in me, no housework needed today, just
lazing around....I am debating with myself about asking for
meals on wheels (Debodun?), due to issues I have these days
trying to cook ...just don't have much initiative any longer...
that and these hands are giving me fits. and not being able to stand up for very long.............we will see...I took
MOW once before and ended it due to not very good tasting
.....so I dunno...nice sunny day out so that is a plus, think I'll
have the lawn mowed again....bye for now.....:D

I decided that today's the day to dust the hutch and all the knickknacks. Turned into a 2 hour job. It hadn't been cleaned under or behind since the movers dropped it there 2.5 years ago. To do that I had to take all the knickknacks off the shelves and empty the storage area on the bottom. Then I moved it away from the wall. Surprisingly, it wasn't as bad as I thought. As long as I had it away from the wall, I took out an old cable outlet cable that was sticking out and preventing it from being flush with the wall. Moved the hutch back into place. Putting all the knickknacks back is a job for another day.

I am also doing a lot of dusting; more than just the surface I mean, heavy duty as you did, @debodun. I did such a good job yesterday. I can't do it as long as you can, though. I hope I continue, I really want to get a lot of hidden dirt cleaned up. This apartment 71 years old and my baseboards make me go Yuck!

In 1984 my daughter was a little under a year old. It was late evening and we were watching "Dallas" so I know it was a Friday night. Anyway, DH & I were on the couch and she was playing on the floor between us. Completely unprovoked, our dog bolted over to her and bit her on the face. Just missed her eye, but left a nasty wound on her cheek.

I called my GP of 15 years standing (he was also my OB and pediatrician). His service had him call right back. He told me to not bring her to the ER because the legal paperwork for a dog bite was a nightmare, but to come to his house and gave me directions. He laid her out on their pool table and with the assistance of his wife (a nurse) stitched her up right there and then. No bill, no waiting, no drama.

Have you had a recent heart-to-heart with Sir, telling him you're seriously considering hanging up your apron permanently very soon because of X, Y and Z? It might motivate him to up his game and make sure the rest of the crew does the same.

Would you want to work just a couple of days a week. You might give them this option. Two or nothing.

You‘re a doer. Do you know what you’ll do with yourself seven days a week.

@StarSong Nope. He hates his job and is just marking time until he can retire for the pension. It'll be 30 years soon.

@Jules I'd thought of that, too. It would mean putting up with the same old same old, just for two days instead of five!

I have no earthly idea what I'm gonna do with myself, just know that I'm done with corporate cr@p even if it's a small corporation. Silly rules, requirements...

For instance, there's a notice posted by the time clock proclaiming that no one is allowed to use their own personal "device" while clocked in and indeed, not even allowed to have it on their person. No exceptions because if it's noticed that that's being done, it will mean disciplinary action up to and including dismissal.

There are big posters everywhere telling us to scan the QR code at the bottom that shows us how to clock in on personal "device," how to swap shifts, how to apply for PTO, etc. But we're not allowed to have a personal "device" on our person...um...scan the QR codes using what? LOL

There's a big, big freezer at the back of the store that we have to use all day every day. It has a foolproof gizmo that keeps from locking a person in. One day the foolproof gizmo didn't work. The person in the freezer had her phone. Called her husband, who called the store manager, who unlocked the freezer door. If she hadn't had her phone, she'd have died, but she was worried that she'd be fired.

There are employees who kill time by watching videos, playing games, logging into forums or facebook. Every day. So far they're all still employed.

We must all wear corporate shirts, black or khaki slacks or dark denim jeans. Black or khaki jeans not allowed, only dark denim. Black or khaki reserved for slacks. If we don't adhere to the dress code, notice says we'll be sent home. People ignore it on a daily basis. AFAIK, no one has been sent home. (Sir wears faded black sweat pants.)

There are "tests" we have to take every day on a handheld computer. If we don't take them, "management will have to get involved." Most days I take them...multiple choice. I always just click on the first answer offered. We're asked if we have low, medium or high confidence in our answer. I always click on low. All that's required is that we take the required test.

Wait. I do that every day that the handheld computer works, provided that it's available. Each department is assigned one. Often ours isn't in the docking station where it's supposed to be kept. Often it doesn't work because the server is down or whatever other excuse there is.

BUT ALL THIS STUFF IS REQUIRED OR "MANAGEMENT WILL HAVE TO GET INVOLVED."

So, no to two days a week.

ETA: Those tests we have to take every day are common sense tests. How to lift things, food safety, cleaning up spills, that kind of stuff. Hard to believe there are people who wouldn't know the answers to such basic things. Reckon they wonder why I keep flunking? It's not required to pass, just to take them.
