AI Naked Photo Scandal

What is really shocking to me is that the media tools to make these deep fake images/videos are being used by teenagers. It is that easy. We don't know how many of these tools are being made, and how powerful they are. Kids will misuse them, and this IS becoming an epidemic worldwide. What happens when these and even more powerful AI tools are used by geniuses that are bad actors. The crime alarm in me goes to dark red and flashing. Until they can stop these deep fakes from being made, and then dispersed online it is going to be the wild-wild west. How much more danger can we endure?

This has become a major fear of the unknown fast. Development is skyrocketing, and many do not want limitations placed on how they go about it. Others in the know, many of whom have been CEO's in Tech have resigned because they fear what AI can do to our society. Governments are making laws today to control its development. Companies are having to restrict how AI is used in their businesses. The genie is out of the bottle and we don't have a clue to how powerful and dangerous it is and will become.

Someone I was reading likened this "invention" to the "age of fire". Whe mankind starting using fire probably changed the future faster than anything as far as developement. Look at the danger it was/is. We really didn't handle it very well. What makes us think AI will be much different. Most all of us will be gone by the time AI has permeated every nook and cranie. I can't imagine the breadth of it's presence, plus robots are quickly following.

@timoc and @Paco Dennis .

At first, I was only concerned with security being affected, but this has terrified me.
I fear that the culprits are Young teenage boys and if they find them, they will get a slap on the wrist, as they are juveniles.

My youngest grandson who is only 9 years old uses the Facebook AI generator.

Why are a 9-year-old's parents not preventing this? Minimum sign up age for a lot of social media is 13 (unless it's changed recently) . Family should be much more proactive about it.

I know someone who had her identity stolen on a social media site. She thought her privacy settings protected her photos but, somehow, someone was able to download all her photos and pretend to be her. She only found out when she received messages accusing her of being the faker. I don't use those sites or post photos so, I am not sure of the technicalities but, it is quite scary to think where the photos end up and how they are used.

It may be that the culprits are young boys (or girls) known to the victims but, it is equally possible that the images have been downloaded and manipulated by someone living somewhere else in the World safe from detection or legal consequences. Of course, the answer is not to post photos of yourself or your family but, these days, people do and most are safe until, of course, they aren't ... :(

it happens all the time especially on Dating sites where people use stolen photos to gaslight or defraud people ....

people will steal anything at all given the chance. yesterday it was reported 52,000 phones were stolen in London last year alone...

My point being , you can't live your life hiding from people.. in case you're a victim of crime.. you just have to take steps to minimise it...

He uses my daughter's account, I have had so many conversations with her regarding this, but she thinks he is safe on her account as she can see everything he does.
It really grinds my gears.

At least 50 teenage girls have been caught up in a fake nude photo scandal at Bacchus Marsh Grammar School.
Their images were turned into explicit photographs using AI and then circulated online prompting a police investigation.

How long before the blackmail starts and even worse the honour killings?

Stop! Why "honour killings"? I only know such killings in Islam. Are there Islamic girls involved?
