How is your day Today, plans and achievements 2024....

@hollydolly Something that struck me about the old pubs was that the doorways and ceilings were so low. It was explained to me that the reason was because way back when...hundreds of years ago...people weren't as tall as they are now. The advent of electric lights is credited with people being taller now. OK.

It's a lovely day in the neighborhood, but geez! 80F at 11am? Too hot. It's 85 now in less than an hour. Eek. Today's the day the humidity goes up. Starting tomorrow, the temps will be in the 90s.

Flowers have been deadheaded and watered, some shrubs trimmed, and I'm done outside for the day.

It was an ordinary day in the mine, thank heaven.

Cookie worked yesterday afternoon after her 10-day vacation. I tried hard to determine exactly what it was that she did. Sir not happy. So she's HR lady's DGD. Nothing to be done except put up with her, I guess. being "spoken to" hasn't changed anything. Her twin, OTOH, shows up for her own job and works. Hm. Cookie did mention once that she and her twin are polar opposites...

Off to improve my mind by watching murder shows🗡️🔫

Another one Gigi...

some of the pubs date back as far as the 14th century... the oldest pub is in the next town to where I live and is dated 789 AD... but it's not thatched....

Actually the 8th century Male in England was on average 5' 8 '' tall.. they were of Viking origin.. by the middle ages ( 16-17th centuries).. this had shrunk to an average height of 5.5''

people being taller now.
And this has become even more noticeable. I watched a young man in a public place automatically duck under every doorway he went through. These were at least 7‘. There are many young women who are extremely tall now. None of my family inherited this new improved gene.

So she's HR lady's DGD.
HR is not doing her DGD any favours by treating her like this. It’s a tough world out there.

Got my R/W/B solar lights strung. Guy from a water/sewer construction crew working at the end of the street walked up wondering what I was "picking" from my hedges. :ROFLMAO: Bored on his lunch break I guess. They must see a lot of crazy stuff working in neighborhoods.

It'll be nice to have the road open at both ends again someday, and the new higher capacity pipes mean more McMansions. Oh joy, hold me back! No wonder our water/sewer costs have doubled.

the young here are now very tall ... very common to see youngsters of 14 and 15, 6 feet tall.. and still growing....

Need to address a few hours of business work today.

Haven't had TGS for about ten days and won't have him again until a week from today. We'll see him Saturday when DS and family come for a few hours though.

Reason for the long gap? We were away last week, but mostly this: They've taken away his pacifier completely (understandable at 2-1/2 and their call).

When they were limiting its use, I reminded DS that as my mother's house was to him, our house is a soft place to land for our grands, so they needed to leave us out of the process. We can't/won't have him crying and begging for it when he's here.

We obviously ensure they're safe and there are some restrictions, but our grands have a lot of latitude when they're here (Are we wrapped around their little finger? You bet! 💙)

We'll take TGS again next week when he's past asking for a pacifier.

@Jules Actually, I don't think anybody has said a word to the g'mother, and I doubt seriously that Cookie would admit to her that she'd been talked to. Who knows? Sir said she's teflon unless one of the assistant managers is willing to go to the store manager. Even then, would the store manager risk the wrath of his right hand man person?

Well the folks from the health agency just left, got here at 1pm
so they were here awhile, explained what was what, and said
I'll be signed up for Palliative Care now...so they may help me
out some....got to digest all they told me.....:)
Does that mean you might be able to move into a low cost place with lots of care available if needed.

What's the difference between a pub and a gastropub? Don't all/most pubs serve food?
No not all pubs sell food...altho' in recent time the majority of pubs who didn't sell food now provide something...even if it's only sandwiches.

A gastropub differs from a traditional pub in that it's a restaurant with bars, and children are permitted from newborns up to age 14 before 9pm... unlike traditional pubs Gastro pubs often open as early as 7am where Trad pubs open around 11 or mid-day...

gastropubs have all but replaced most restaurants which serve British food... most surviving restaurants in the Uk serve Non Traditional British food.. ie..Italian, French, Indian.. Chinese..etc...

The Oliver's pub in my picture is traditional pub with a restaurant...different to a restaurant with bars which is the Gastro pub...

Bottom two pix remind me of the kinds of pubs we visited when out and about in the countryside. I didn't like the ones in London. They were too...um...trendy, upscale and crowded.

Imagine. It's 7:45, daylight, and I'm still awake since it's not a school night. Trying to stay awake until 9ish.

I can honestly say I never have. But I grew up poor and all but homeless at times.

I guess it bothers me to see people wring their hands over the plight of the poor while others worship infantilized slave animals to an obscene degree. Buying decent grades of beef as dog food strikes me as obscene.

But maybe that's just my problem.
People that can’t see the wonderful things that pets do are lacking in empathy. Just recently a dog traveled 4 miles from a truck going down a ravine all the way to the campground where the rest of the family was. The dog lead people to his owner and 3 other dogs. Cats have also saved people’s lives. Plus they are great companions for everyone including seniors.

Up at 2:30 a.m., Swiffered the floors (except bedroom & studio), scooped the litter box then helped my son gather the garbage so he could set it on the curb when he left for work.

Shortly after he left, I changed clothes & went downstairs to do laundry. I washed my shower curtain on the delicate cycle & did a double load of dark clothes. I was apprehensive about machine washing the curtain, but am very pleased with how it came out. I didn't have to dry it, it wasn't wrinkled when I hung it and none of the silver threads frayed.

the right paw as much but that is hard to do...got some meds

good out side...those health peeps yesterday said the agencys
will build a ramp on back porch to ground, only 3 steps, so
I could go outside and wander the yard a bit, which I would like...they have a design which would not affix to the house itself, but be freestanding I guess, so landlord "may" allow it...

Hope the storms aren't too severe.🌦

I did something that I rarely do...Maggiecat made me get up at 4 because she wanted her breakfast. She wouldn't leave me alone so I got up and fed her and went back to bed. Hm. Once I'm up, I'm up, but this time I went right back to sleep.

It's already hot. Gotta get dressed and get out there to water stuff because in about two hours it'll be blazing. Our next chance of rain is about a week away.

However one bad thing was they told me that air fresheners
are very bad for COPD suffers so I guess I will just STINK!!!!:p
I had a friend years ago who at 55 had COPD and Emphysema. She was on Oxygen 24/7 .. she couldn't have any perfumed products in her home.. no polishes, air fresheners, perfumed soap.... anything. She couldn't have central heating.. she had to have coal in order for her to be able to breathe.. the former would dry the air up too much...

She did use non-perfumed Deodorants, and soap... and her windows were left open most of the time to allow nature to freshen the house..
