Spinal Stenosis, pins and needle feeling?

It's very interesting. It must be a tremendous relief not having pain any longer. Mine, Scoliosis is very similar to Sciatica pain. As for the surgery, my Ortho.dr. has not mentioned it. Probably my advanced age.
Just wonder when the surgery took place, ... appears to me in your late '50s or early '60s?
It was 2004 and I was 71.

It was very surprise to hear and read. In my knowledge, a type of those surgeries normally takes place in your middle to late '60s. So, your've been doing very well as to 'pain-management,' as also guessing your 'over-all-health.' Sounds like your're one of luckiest seniors on this board.

I am blessed/cursed ??? With very high tolerance level for pain. I have usual assortment of arthritis, type 2 diabetes, hypertension that most have who have lived a full life without obsessing about health and diet. I’ve tried to live healthy but not to the exclusion of pleasant living.

I agree. We, seniors needs to be 'strong' and most importantly 'a purpose of live longer and meaningful ways' which keeps me to fight 'extreme pain,' 'HB' and 'cramps on the legs during the nights.' Sounds like your 'a truly good example of living longer and in health way.' :)

I've tried Tramadol and 2 other non-narcotic pain relievers, and several re-uptake blockers. Hydrocodone is the only medication that helps this particular type of pain.
What kind of pain you've been having? In my recollection, my dentist rx'ed 'Hydrocodine' when he pulled one of teeth about 20 years ago, although its dosage is not clear to remember. It's a quite strong pain-killer. Just wonder what other 'strong(powerful) pain meds. you had previously?

Spinal stenosis.

Hydrocodone isn't really a strong pain medication, but it targets certain types of nerve pain, including the spinal cord's reaction to stenosis.

I have found sometimes changing where I sleep helpful. Moving to a reclining chair for a few days can bring some relief to pain and pins and needles. Most of my lower back pain starts when I lay down to sleep and quits when I stand up although lately I’m having pins and needles in my hands when I wake up and a headache in the lower back of head not sure if all of thIs this is caused by my spinal stenosis I feel for you though. It can make difficult sleep and pins and needles sensation

Along with Tramadol, I apply Voltaren(pain cream) on the area of pain, mostly left leg. which occurs during sleep, around 4 a.m to 5 a.m. I rub it vigorously and massage the pain area for about 10 to 15 minutes. It's really annoying to say the least, but I accept my problem of Scoliosis which mostly radiates left let. The pain is extremely painful, sometimes paralyzes, not only left-leg but my whole body. Then, Tramadol is 'life-saver' for me not getting an extreme pain. :)

I dismissed Tramadol as not working. I never considered a higher dosage. Duh. After back surgery in 2014 they handed out oxycodone like candy. I would get 90 ten mg at a time and no problem renewing. Now I think they give you 5. I was careful but not everyone was.

I tried Capzasin-HP topical analgesic cream on my neck pain today. It seemed to work pretty well. I will be experimenting with it. I am glad my illness didn't happen when the opioid epidemic was happening. That would be a nightmare weaning off of them.

My neighbor back then was a nurse and she gave me some tips on weaning. There was probably nothing I hadn't thought of but her confidence in my success helped.

I forgot to mention, the other med. Gabapetin 300 mg. in conjuction to Tramadol which appears to me 'booster' for the nerve-pain(Scoliosis).
At first, my Neurologist rx'ed only Gabapetine and advised me to take Chiropractor or Physical Therapy which definitely helped, but my BCBS paid only 24 visits or so. Afterwards, I needed to pay $50 per session. Then, I quit and taking only Tramadol and Gabapetine.
My Geatric dr. actually does not like Tramadol which interferes my High Blood med., however he rx'ed two different HB meds which has been stabilized my High-Blood Pressure. :)
Along with two different meds., I take frequent rests during the day, about 30 minutes after working around the house. For me, taking rest is definitely helps my nerve-pain(Scoliosis).:)

I think the amount of Gabapentin they have prescribed for my neuropathy has been and still is effective. I am taking 300mg caps every 4 hours. 1800mg per day.

For me, taking 'Gabapentine' has some 'risk' which causing
Tremor/Shaking for many years' taking, starting probably 20-25 years ago, although I'd like to take more Gabapentine. Probably, I try to increase 400 mg. before the bedtime. Actually, my Orth.Dr. rx'ed 3 times, 300 mg. which I do not take because of 'tremor/shaking' development over the years.
However, all of those powerful meds. have 'side-effects' to consider before taking them.

I'm sorry you're experiencing this. If you have nerve-related pain or "pins and needles" sensations, you might find relief with gentle stretching, warm compresses or over-the-counter pain relievers.
Physical therapy, massage or acupuncture could also help.
Please consult your doctor to rule out underlying conditions and get personalized advice.

I was taking 1,000 mg of Gabapentin daily, but it made me feel off balance and also a hazy mental feeling. So, I quit it. Now I am going to get in touch with my Dr who will administer corticosteroids in my back, and I hope they will be of help.
