I am done buying clothes.

@StarSong I completely agree. I hope you didn’t misunderstand what I wrote.

In fact I actually said “ abhor the idea that anyone should feel like they have to dress to please others, dress so that they don’t offend other people etc”

I long ago stoped trying to conform to others’ ideas of what is right, appropriate, attractive and the like and I applaud anyone who feels similarly. I do however have some self-consciousness related to wearing what I think looks unattractive on me and that’s where I aspire to a level of insouciance that I don’t have.

If my post sounded judgy, I apologize. It wasn’t meant that way.
My apologies for taking your post as being judgy. I know you better and shouldn't have jumped to that conclusion. ❤️

I just find it so tedious that adult women's appearances are judged against ridiculously youthful standards - like teenage youthful.

well even here where we don't even have Walmart we've heard of the ridiculous clothing people go shopping wearing in Walmart.... why don't the stores stop them entering if they're not dressed appropriately.? here for example you can't go into supermarket stripped to the waist... especially women.. :ROFLMAO: seriously no shirt no service is the rule... and certainly if someone was to walk in to any store like this they would be refused entry...
I really, really wish I could unsee the Walmart photos that have been posted in this thread. 😄

That said, Walmart, I believe, simply does not care. I worked there for a few weeks back in 2019 after I had nearly lost my freelance career and had to make money, fast. They were unbelievably disorganized: enrolled me in the completely wrong online training video set (receiving inventory) and then sent me out on the apparel floor with literally no instructions. No wonder the employees (if you can find one) are almost never helpful. It was a complete sh*tshow. I think I lasted about 3 weeks.

I have been reading the replies here with interest. I tend to wear leggings and tunics myself, for the same reason @Ronni mentioned: I'm tall, and my legs are still pretty thin, but my midsection, not so much. I have struggled to find tunics that are long enough to cover my behind. I usually end up ordering them online. I sometimes wear jeans, but I find leggings more comfortable when sitting at a desk most of the day.

That's terrible. I'm so sorry. Department stores have gone away. We have Penny's and Kohles. Neither of which I'm crazy about. Most of my clothes are second hand.

Have you got your money back on those items you ordered? Challenge it.
I find that the clothes I love the best, that I go back to over and over, are the ones I picked up at the thrift store.

I rarely buy clothes from a Supermarket. It's all very well buying something plain..like a t-shirt etc.. but anything with any kind of pattern then you're gonna see lots of people wearing the same thing... I learned my lesson with that after buying a striped top from F&F... and one day thankfully I wasn't wearing it.. but that day within just an hour I walked past 3 separate women wearing that same top
I bought a long winter dress coat years ago, absolutely loved the shade of pink and thought it looked so flattering over the dresses I used to wear to work......until I went to a party and discovered two other ladies loved the same long coat I did! Took the rosy bloom off my purchase in a moment.

I use to wear leggings a lot but then I started to get irritations you know where.. and my doctor said that leggings were the single worst thing invented for women, because they draw heat due to the nylon composition .. and ultimately infection to the private area.. . She said it's made triply worse by people who wear tights, as well as nylon underwear along with the leggings, and end up with recurring Thrush..

I stopped wearing leggings except very occasionally , and wear jeans, or cotton capris instead... and never had another minutes trouble..

You would think tho' that Walmart would care that it must be costing them customers in certain demographic areas who refuse to shop there knowing people who are filthy are touching the food...

..but you've kept clothes from 50 years ago ?
Yeah, like I said, they just travelled with me throughout time. Hardly worn. Haven't worn the shirt I'm wearing in about 10 years, I get to them eventually. My hippie dresses I lost in a flood known as Superstorm Sandy. Why throw out if I still like them? and their condition very good? I never know when I might wear them. Lots of stuff isn't dated and doesn't go out of style, whatever that is.

Some stores don’t have change rooms. I watched a hefty woman in her 50s displaying her full rear in a 90 degree angle as she tried on a pair of shorts. Hope she found some.
This is madness. All of our stores had changing rooms.. then came covid and they stopped allowing people to use them ... 🫣..and to this day they've not permitted the use of them again in stores like Tesco and Sainsbury. It's a real PITA for people to have to buy things without trying them on and then have to return them... and I think they rely on more people, not being bothered with the return.. and therefore those 2 giants supermarket chains make more money than they would if people tried them on a discarded them in store as unsuitable..

yes but how do you have space for 50 years worth of clothing... ? I live in a much bigger house than you have and I have only space for the last few years worth

Oh, I don't save everything!!!!!!!!!! And the stuff I wear a lot ends up in a worn out shape and gets thrown out. Just maybe 10 blouses left? One pair sparkly black jeans? Have most of my Hillary suits with skirts for when I pretended I was a professional something.

I order on line from the same store. I get an item that I like in different colors. I like elbow-sleeve tunic as well as the pima shaped tee, three-quarter-sleeve jewelneck. Bermuda length shorts or pants (preferably cotton or linen) I am looking for quality and comfort. Going always to the same store makes it easy for the right sizing and therefore avoids returns.

I agree about the correct sizing. Lands' End was one of my favorites but I think they went downhill. LL Bean is pretty expensive and no good sales anymore.
That's why I like Talbots outlet. Nice quality and more affordable. They usually have good clearance items. I don't care if it's last years style.

I am done buying clothes. I joined Home | Cypress Cove Nudist Resort

When I was selling and merchandising suncare products for a well-known firm, that was one of my customers. Luckily, I didn't have to take off my clothes to do my job there...LOL.

I'm a nudist, but I'm not a *social* nudist. I used to go to Playalinda, take it all off and tan/swim. No! I don't want to play volleyball with you! I don't want to play Frisbee! I have no interest in hanging out with you guys.....there's already too much hanging if you get my drift.

The last thing I would be interested in would be socializing at BBQs, bingo nights or pool parties with a bunch of my fellow unclothed.

The worst thing that ever happened was bumping into one of the managers from my biggest accounts and having to talk to him every week afterward. It was awkward.....

Well, those days are over. Too much of me went South for the winter and never returned North.

yes I have a 5 room house, so I have wardrobe space everywhere..in fact I have 2 walk -in closets... .... but Pepper lives in a small NY apartment !
I was just teasing Holly, but I guess you sussed that. We are currently having our house spruced up to sell. A bungalow beckons, the size of this place means high maintenance and the stairs get higher every day. The two of us do have far more clothes than we need, the reason being twofold. The lady enjoys dressmaking, it's been a lifelong hobby. Her other passion, make that our passion, until the arthritis and old age rudely interrupted was dancing, as in Latin & Ballroom, with a bit of gymnastic rock & roll on the side. Dancing kept our weight in check, but not our wardrobe.
