Who is your favorite Dr. Who?

This is timely - we've been watching the new Dr. Who! Also dug deep and turned up other shows ABOUT Dr. Who - what fun. It was so interesting to hear about how it got started and what the original plans were. As for my favorite, I guess it would be Tom Baker. We actually took the time to watch most of his tenure - even though it was so "camp." After a while, we got busy and it seemed a bit silly, that we neglected it.

The new Doctor is VERY different and we're enjoying his enthusiasm and their increased budget. LOVED the "every ending has a twist" with the song and dance routine! It was fun to be surprised. Not sure if we'll follow him long term but, for now, its on our watch list.

Well here in the UK most people's Fave Doctor was the one associated with their ERA... for me as kid that would be the first one William Hartnell and John Pertwee.....as an adult.. my Favourite was without doubt David Tennant...

However some of the Doctors get a mark down not because of them per se.. but because their sidekick might have been disliked...

I haven't seen any of the new series since Matt Smith became the Dr, it just hasn't been available here. The new series the Dr is a darker character. Of the ones I have seen I'd say David Tennant was my favorite, though Tom Baker was prior to that.

I haven't watched Dr. Who in decades. The last I saw it, Tom Baker played the lead. I thought about watching the versions in the past couple of years, but due to my overflowing "TV plate" I never got around to it. Now that a young "Brutha", Ncuti Gatwa is playing the part, that sparked my interest so I check out the trailer. I like the lead actor's energy and it looks like it will be fun to watch.

Can somebody tell me why there are so many different Dr. Who's? Does one "pass the baton", so to speak to the next one?

I found this via Google. Perhaps it answers your question @OneEyedDiva

Recasting a title character is risky business for most TV and movie franchises, but for Doctor Who, it's an integral part of the mythology. In a unique trick, Time Lords have the ability to cheat death, renewing every cell in their bodies when they are gravely sick or fatally wounded.Dec 29, 2023

I'm GenX so my first Doctor that I can remember properly was John Pertwee. I love Tom Baker's quirkiness - and that scarf of course. Dropped out of watching it for many years, but my absolute favourite of recent years is Christopher Eccleston. He seemed to communicate the seriousness of the Doctor's various battles better than anyone else. Billie Piper as Rose was also outstanding.

Thank you Pinky. Wikipedia showed pictures of all the Dr. Who's on its Dr. Who page too. I didn't realize that there were two before Tom Baker.

I've finished the first two episodes of the new Dr. Who and I'm hooked! I love the interaction of the two main characters and I like the other characters too. I recognize the actress in the episode about the space babies from Netlix's Bridgerton. She plays the very grand queen.

And yes, the new Doctor's enthusiasm is delightful. Something about his acting made me think he has a background in theater. It's like he's playing to a live audience. Sure enough.... this from Wikipedia:

"Mizero Ncuti Gatwa[1] (English: (n)ʃuːti ˈɡætwɑː/ (N)SHOO-tee GAT-wah;[a] born 15 October 1992) is a Rwandan-Scottish actor.[7][8] Beginning his career on stage at the Dundee Repertory Theatre, he was a nominee for an Ian Charleson Award for his performance as Mercutio in a 2014 production of Romeo & Juliet at HOME." More about him: Ncuti Gatwa - Wikipedia

The storylines are whimsical, engaging and even heartwarming. With all that's going on in the world, I need that sometimes. I'm wondering if the show continues will he still be the Doctor or will there be a new Doctor. In any event, the show has renewed my interest so I'm likely to go back and watch the previous Doctors if I can find the episodes on one of my streaming platforms.

As a long time fan I thought those two were quite poor. Certainly the worst of the series. If you liked them you're in for some treats with the rest :)

I am waiting for them to make the episode “Dr. Who‘s on First Base?”.

Yes, I realize that isn’t cricket, but maybe they will grant somebody in the old colonies the right to make the episode.
