Do you think that this forum is populated by old souls?

I don't believe in any religion but the concept of people having previous lives accumulating knowledge and experiences was nudging my curiosity this morning so I read a few webpages about people with old souls and the way they were written made me think that maybe the people interacting here are old souls not just older people.

Seekers of knowledge, empathetic, I don't necessarily believe it but it just sounded cool and I can't say they're wrong it's a nice concept.

Do we even have a demographics page? If I had to guess I'd say there are quite a few more people over 70 than under 70 here. Probably very few under 60 currently active.

What does "old soul" mean once you hit 80?

It's one thing to call a serious minded and mentally mature child, an 'old soul'. But from a spiritual perspective, I think the 'title' of old soul only belongs to someone who demonstrates understanding of humanity and empathy for others and a deep wisdom that seeks peace and justice for all because he or she recognizes that we are all part of the One. I also don't think that any of us are qualified to take the title for ourselves because we're too biased, too close to the picture we present to the world, to be able to see clearly. That's like choosing a nickname for ourselves.

I think there may be a few old souls among us, but mostly I think we're all just old people. And I include myself in that by the way, because I recognize all too clearly, my failings and flaws.

I don't think I am at all, but I do think my sister-in-law is. She was a nurse practitioner who spent her days caring for people, and now that she's old and retired her ideas of hobbies are volunteer work and making jewelry and knitting so she can give gifts to everyone on the planet.

I once saw a picture of her when she was about six, just sitting and looking pensive. I said she looked like an old soul. I'd never said that about anyone before and she said lots of people have told her that.

Just from what you've described, it would seem that perhaps your sister in law is one of those people. I think those kinds of folks recognize the struggle of others and want to help them carry that load just a little bit easier by that moment of kindness, by reaching out.

Beautifully written @TheOtherRick. Lovely thoughts.

I always thought I was an old soul based on the Tarot, A+++ Astrologers who read my chart, a past life regression and what my mother told me After she died.
I used to drive my mom to a regression hypnotist whenever he did local group sessions. They were like Tupperware Parties, but with spooky stuff. šŸ˜µā€šŸ’« :p

I didn't let the guy hypnotize me, but he said he could tell I've lived many times....my aura, or whatever. He said he wanted to hypnotize me, but he got $110 per subject, so, of course.

It's possible. Why not? What do I know? If it's true, I think I've been a physician or a student of medicine or something. Maybe a mortician. Or grave-robber. šŸ™ƒ

You were regressed? What did you learn? What were you told?

Are we talking age of person?
Or age of soul?

Calculating age is easy. It’s specific number
Calculating age of soul is next to impossible, especially if we consider a soul to be eternal.
I'm thinking along the reincarnation theory, as I understand it some souls are aware of their past lives, or people with certain characteristics are recognizable as having been through life before.

I have read of children as young as 5 who tell their parents of a previous life. Some of the situations they remember seem impossible for someone that young to invent. Whether they have lived another life or not they somehow have access to information that sometimes checks out to having been a real person. Google it if you are interested.

I've watched a few videos about kids like that too and it's fascinating isn't it? I completely believe that we all have past lives but the vast majority have no recollection of them. Suits me just fine, especially when I think how growing up in this crazy world was so confusing and painful. Adding in memories of some past life would not have made the process any simpler.

I told this story before. What???? You don't hang on my Every Word? :ROFLMAO:

It was Spring, 1969, before my first trip to Europe. I was regressed to a woman from Elizabethan Times who lived in Canterbury, England. I was a tanner's wife. I met my 'husband' when he apprenticed for my father. I had daughters, some of them dead. That's the gist. When I went to Canterbury as myself, I did not need a map or guidebook. I knew where I was at all times and how to get there. Really freaked my travelling friend out. Me too.

I have always understood "old soul" to mean someone (usually a child or youth) who is wise beyond their years... never anything about reincarnation. So... I guess although I've never thought of it, the term wouldn't really apply to seniors because .... what? A 60 year old would have the wisdom of a 75 year old? Nah, it doesn't work for older people.

I've also heard the term used with someone who's seen more than anyone should ever have to see... often about combat veterans.

I never think of "old souls" as someone who has been reincarnated, I define that term as meaning wise beyond their years

Anyway...I don't believe anyone on here has lived a past life. The consciousness you have right here and now experies when you die, there's no do overs.

I don't believe in reincarnation. I think these past life regressions are possibly from genetic memories, whether ones own or not. Also, of course, imagination. Just can't figure out how I knew old city of Canterbury though. Some things are just unexplainable, and I don't search for their answers.

Yeah, I question whether this phenomena has anything to do with a soul. It's more believable (to me) it has to do with our DNA. Scientists say that something like 90% of our DNA does nothing, serves no purpose....it's just there. But that can't be true. It does something, they just haven't figured out what...because it's beyond our scope of knowledge and understanding.

Probly we'll get it figured out just before we blow ourselves up. Then we get to start again...again.

There are multiple definitions of "Old Soul" and they all vary like night and day.
I always thought it either meant you are Old, wise, humble, kind, patient, self controlled, and at peace
or Young with the same attributes.

"wise, humble, kind, patient, self controlled, and at peace" those are golden virtues.
