Query about editing in a Conversation

Unless I've got a technical issue at my end... It appears that things are set up so that the bracket of time for editing a Conversation post is more limited than other sorts of posts on SF.

I don't know why things are set up this way. Seems to me that if there's been no reply, and no acknowledgment of receipt as yet (a like, etc) that we should have the usual time — 24 hours, I've been told months ago by a member. Please apprise me. Thanks.

I've asked about the time limit for editing a post, and also for deleting one's post. Unfortunately, I've forgotten and didn't 'bookmark' or take note. 😣

But, I think you can delete your own post within an hour or so, and edit perhaps up to 24 hours.

I've never been offered an option to delete a conversation, even immediately. Maybe that's a phone option, but not laptop. Editing time seems to be about 10 minutes. I really wish there would at least be a notification in-message that it's been read. If there are more than one to/from the same person, sometimes the first gets lost.

@CallMeKate , here's a screenshot(see below) taken 56 minutes after my last post. It still has the edit option. This is from my desktop computer, using Firefox web browser.

I think you'd do best to send a conversation with these questions directly to Matrix.

There always seems to be confusion around this. 🌹

Oh wait.... this is a forum post you're showing, not a conversation/PM. I can edit forum posts for 24 hours and PMs for 10 minutes., but there's never been a delete button at either place for me.

I have a delete button.. I can delete my posts for quite a while after I make 'em... But I remember telling someone else that they can do it, and Matrix telling me now everybody can... and I can't remember the reason why. Might be not enough posts..or not a member long enough..I really can't remember

It appears to be around 24 hours after you post, you can Edit it. ... I check this reply in a bit.

I'm not sure how long you get with a reply. I am on my Dell with 11 pro now.

Think you can change your entire post with another thought for up to 24 hours on Puters.
Think You do have to post something of enough keystrokes. Mod can help you if you ask most likely.

Oh thank you! I thought it was just me. It's sure not that I don't have enough posts. I just tried a conversation on the tablet... Android and Chrome... same thing, no delete. Laptop is Firefox and Windows. Oh well, it's not a big deal, but it would be nice to know what the difference is.
I have been noticing quite a bit of difference when using my laptop with different browsers. Some sites I visit are very different acting. There are obvious differences with the cell phone apps and the computer programs. I am beginning to think it is a compatibility issue with many differences. The programming is giving different results. ...I have even had to switch to a different browser to get some sites to respond correctly.

For regular comments I have Report Edit & Delete available.

My platform is xenForo Default Style. Maybe that’s the difference. This shows in the bottom left corner of my screen on my iPad. When there was an upgrade Matrix said to use this.

The next time I start a conversation, I’ll see if there are any of these options.

The time limit for editing your conversations is 10 minutes. Conversations are more like emails and instant messaging; you are not supposed to edit them at all. Ten minutes is long enough to correct your typos.

The time limit for editing your posts is 24 hours, and after 2 hours, an "Edited by..." note will be displayed.

Post deletion is limited to SF VIP, which you will be awarded after making 10,000 posts. There is a shortcut, though: active participants in WOTD will get the deletion right.

Tested. I can Report or Edit a conversation I start. No option to delete it.
I've always been able to do that, for a short while. My issue is that with posts to threads, there is a long period when I can edit it (for clarity, or to add something, etc). Of course, if someone has already replied to my post and included a copy of what I said, then I prefer not to alter the original.

But with conversations, the editing option time is very limited, even if there's no indication the member I've sent the post to has read it yet.

Matrix, thanks for the clarification.
