There are millions of amateur musicians sharing their music on social media these daze. On a new site I frequent there is a thread for "Independent musicians and songwriters". I am astounded by the amazingly talented music being made by regular people, who do make music as a hobby.
I put one song on it and was contacted within a day by a radio producer. Praised my song and said he could arrange to get that song, and others that I have written on a huge list of radio stations. I told him that would be great. Then he told me to check out the cost I would have to pay for him to accomplish it. It is now a gig business in the music "cloud". Dealers in music. It is like gambling. If a person has a strong desire to have their music listened to by the general public on radio's and Tv's and possibly do concerts, there are a million businesses now that tempt you to use them, for a fee.
Most music sharing sites do the same thing. For a fee, they will promote your music, like Spotify. It has become the new place to really get noticed, and hope abounds. The way I feel now, at this older age, I have little interest in spending money so that my music is "sold". I quit the music business because to me, music is for everyone, and everyone has music inside them. I like to see and hear anybody playing any kind of instrument. Talent varies but to me that doesn't matter. Some people are very gifted, and some are just your normal person having fun, or making music because they like it.
As technology advances, these ease at sharing what you're doing in the present time is becoming normal. Selfie videos, and pics, and memes and videos to get likes. There is money involved for many, and if you get a million plays you get 50 cents.
