I read above concerns about the British medical system, and I also heard that many English M.D's are leaving England for America because of poor working conditions. Well, my cousin in Germany was a children's doctor. When I saw him some twenty years ago, he assured me he can spend only ten minutes for each child in order to make any money at all. In his nineties, he is living now in charity supported housing. It could be that European governments are just not spending enough money for healthcare.

In Southern California we have plenty of physicians, and their average base salary is about $250K Medical Doctor Salary in California | Salary.com and Registered nurses in California earn an average of $133,340 per year. In my 55 years with Kaiser <kp.org> it happened only twice that I could not see an M.D. the same day. By telephone or video, I usually can see my personal doctor within three days. For a personal appointment, though, I may have to wait depending on his schedule. By email, I also have access to my personal physician that obligates him to respond within two days. And the administration ask me occasionally to evaluate the service of staff, including M.D's. Patients are always invited to submit comments any time.

BTW, Medicare and Social Security in America are approaching a crisis with the government being $33 trillion in debt. We are already paying for it with inflation, and the day of reckoning will surely come. If not for us, then for our children as my own parents had experienced it, "hyperinflation ... economic disaster in the Weimar Republic in 1922–23 that impoverished millions of German citizens and paved the way for the rise of the Nazi Party." Hyperinflation in the Weimar Republic | Description & Facts But Americans are stubbornly refusing to see "the writing on the wall." BTW, if you are curious about the salaries of California's public employees and their pensions, including K-12 and higher education, then you can find it at Transparent California If you knew my real name, you could find me on that list as well. When I discussed salaries with a sheriff deputy, he told me I can find his salary there also. I did, and wow, he made more than I did. ("The average Sheriff's Deputy salary in California is $115,265." https://govsalaries.com/salaries/sheriff-s-deputy-salary/california)

@CinnamonSugar Unless you're going to Savannah specifically to see ", la" you may want to rethink your plan to go at the end of next week. She'll be there on Friday, and you know it'll be a zoo and harder than heck to get a hotel room.

TS Debbie is supposed to hit there Thursday/Friday as well.
Oh, Lawd.. well I guess I’ll have to reschedule the dermatologist appt. Thanks for the head’s-up, @Georgiagranny ❤️

I got my old chair finished... 3 days ... an hour or so a day, and it's got 4 coats on it....

This was the before and after.....

I've got one more to do, and then it's all done... I'll leave that until later in the week...

How pretty! @hollydolly Here's a way to make some 💷💷...refinish furniture. Make 'em deliver to you and pick up when done. You get to choose when you work.
thank you Gigi...it's a lovely idea.. but my back wouldn't be able to cope with it....

I used to renovate second hand furniture when I was first married, and we were broke, he was on Naval pay, and gambled it all away, so I used to buy furniture from the charity shops and renovate them myself to sell to make money.

Now it would be just too painful on my hands and back to do it for anyone else..

this is one of the many reasons I never gave up my landline... so I have a phone as a back -up if anything happens to my Iphone
I wanted a landline and never would have gotten a cell phone but my apartment does not have a hookup for a landline. The phone company said it would cost me $100 to get it fixed and it was cheaper to get on my daughter's cell phone plan.

Then as I am sure you all know, I got used to the blankety blank cell phone and OMG I can not live without it. I thought I was losing my mind as I struggled to deal with life without the darn thing. I mean serious depression and eruptive emotion. When I stop being a senior companion, I am going back to the landline.

First off the landline phone does not get lost and does not fall into the toilet, or have to be constantly updated or replaced. I am not subject to a lot of advertisements with a landline. However, with the rest of the world using cell phone technology that may be a communication problem. Like no one has a receptionist who answers our calls. I am not sure how well the old technology would work today.

I would be refurnishing furniture if I had a garage. I envy you for having that experience. I love old, anything old. I have seen marvelous things done with old coffee tables. I did put a new seat on a small chair and a young man at the community center wood shop glued the broken back. I am so proud of it.

But these days I spend my free time napping. I would love to be napping now but I waited too long. Soon I have to pick up a couple of ladies and take them to lunch because one of them is having a birthday. I have put some extra coffee in my cup hoping it gives me the energy to keep my commitments. And I think I am kidding myself believing I would be redoing furniture if I had the space for it. Having the energy for it is the real problem.

What if I had more energy? What would I do with it?

I still have a landline, as well as my iphone.. as do many people our ages....

However the major landline provider here BT wanted to remove all the landlines from homes in the country this year, but there was a Hue and Cry from people who don't have any technology and or don't know how to use it , so they've delayed it now for 2 years... but it's still going to be the same situation

I won't like having no landline because I use it actually more often that I do my mobile, simply because it doesn't drop signal.. and if I have to make a call to an important number it's imperative that the signal doesn't drop out.

Having said that I take my iphone with me whenever I go out..no just to be able to be contacted , but in fact in case i ever break down..because nowadays we don't even have public phones any more..

Today was ok. Went to the pool to watch Likkle Grandson and his parents messing about in the water with various flosts and pool noodles. It did our heavily pregnant daughter wonders just to be more buoyant for an hour :) Later we watched his Dad play in the park with one of the Brass Bands he plays Bass Trombone in. Likkle Grandson conducting with a stick he'd found was very sweet

90F yesterday causing indoors to rise to 79F (have no AC) while I was up in SF for Jerry Day jam band music. Was 63F at sunrise today, so opened windows doors and brought down indoors to 71F. Went to 7am mass, few are awake for or attend except we old folks. Vacuumed some areas of my residence while cool air still flowing in and hand washed dishes. Vacuum and sponge cleaned some dirty black shoes I danced atop dirt in yesterday. Found a small pocket watch I'd thought was lost. Corn flakes with banana slices for breakfast. Watched live American Kristen Faulkner win the long women's cyclist road race, the first in 40 years, Brian Finke win the 1500m swim with a WR.

Six Trader Joe's breaded fish sticks with ketchup and salt for a late lunch. Then watching some more live Olympics and typing there and here on Internet sites a bit. In a couple hours will drive to Los Gatos for some street fun and outdoor live music.

AT&T also wanted to drop our landlines, but the California Public Utilities Commission <cpuc.ca.gov> did not permit it. Now AT&T is jacking up the prices, $70 for the landline and $75 for the landline DSL Internet. Included in the price is a display of who is calling to avoid answering junk callers. I heard in Europe telecommunication is less expensive. My daughter has me also on her cell phone plan.

I am going crazy. I don't like drinking out of a can, so I filled up the probiotic Kampuchea in a glass, and that glass evaporated mysteriously. I looked at every possible place where I may have placed it, but nada. I am going bananas.

My pups don't like going outside when it's too hot, so they are playing dead. Now 106F and it may even go up more. The inside “67” is misleading because it’s near the air conditioning outlet (the air actually comes out of the duct at 57 degrees, but I keep the house temperature generally at 77 because of our age.) Even after sunset, it probably will be still too warm to go on our usual evening walk. So, I am using my treadmill while watching TV.

My older daughter wants to go hiking up to the Hollywood sign with friends Hollywood Sign - Wikipedia and https://www.hollywoodsign.org But tracing her progress on my iPhone's "Find Me," she is still on the parking lot after one hour. Funny. Perhaps it dawned on them that it's crazy to hike up a small mountain in 100+ degree weather.

My wife's chicken coop has been invaded by rats, squirrels, birds, and gophers feasting on chicken food. I just caught two squirrels with almonds as bait and will release them in the wild. The secure rat poison trap will show progress only by diminished bait.

Finally, my wife is making delicious refreshment with shaved ice and strawberry syrup.

Almost bedtime for me. We had a short rain a little while ago so maybe I'll have sprouting flower seeds tomorrow morning :)

I've forgotten the things I promised myself I'd do tomorrow. A list would help. Remind me to make a list...or should I make a list to remind myself to make a list...

Last year we had some small potatoes left over and so Mrs.L kept them for planting as seed potatoes this year. We lifted them yesterday and got a great crop, more or less for free. The garden was very dry and we planned to water it today, but it rained heavily overnight and this morning, so no need to water.
Forecast for today - if you could believe it - is for a dry morning, but heavy random showers this afternoon. Temp forecast to be around 22 C., which is pretty warm for this area.

I'm up at 5 and it's pouring outside. DH wanted to do the gutters but I'm pretty sure we missed the window on this storm.
We considered Leaf Guard at one time but even though they guarantee they won't clog, they can't guarantee that wet leaves won't cover them up. We bought some of the bottle brush type and are going to try them on a section.
Otherwise there's not a thing on my agenda today.

I put a large sweet potato that was going bad out in my front planter. I just set it on the ground. It started growing pretty leaves. I'm curious if once the foliage dies back if I'll have some potatoes.
