I remember how I loved watching LHOTP when it first aired and subsequently rewatched most of the re-runs. My favorite episodes were those involving Laura and Almanzo's courtship and later marriage. How I miss that show. Anybody else feel the same?

Yes I loved that show and the Walton's too! My favorite shows were when the girls were small and still living at home and going to that one room schoolhouse.
I loved watching Laura and Mary grow up, fall in love and get married. Somehow, though, after Laura and Almanzo got married, the show seemed to lose something. I had read that Michael Landon had planned (hoped) that Melissa Gilbert and Dean Butler would carry the show with Charles and Caroline not appearing that often but the change just didn't take. It seemed that audiences were less interested in their mundane married lives than in their courtship days. ML than tried rebooting the show by moving the Carters in, hoping to rekindle the original formula but again, the Carters couldn't compare to the Ingalls.

I keep having the hope that Michael Landon, Jr. might consider producing a sequel (a TV movie) updating the lives of the still living characters in Little House. It could center on Rose Wilder's growing up years and starting a career. Melissa and Dean would be on the show as her parents of course and Nellie could be a widow with her now grown children. Of course, the problem with that idea is that Walnut Grove was blown up in the final episode.

We lived across the street from Laura Ingalls great, great granddaughter. It was when it was so popular on TV also. My wife was so excited. She had read all the books, twice, and watched the TV show religiously. :)
I didn't think that Rose Wilder Lane had any living children. I remember reading that she did lose a baby early in her marriage. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I think she might have had stepchildren though but I'm not sure. Maybe that's where the great great granddaughter came from.

That is what she told us. I am usually not a believer when someone tells me something like that, it is sensationalism. So I don't know if it was true...she just said it was. :)

I have always loved Little House on the Prairie—both the books and the TV show. I grew up with them and still watch the show and occasionally re-read the books.

It could have been true. Rose Wilder Lane did adopt an Armenian boy later in her marriage so that GG granddaughter could have been a descendent of his.

I watched The Waltons too when the show originally aired. When I tried watching some of the re-runs though, I noticed that the acting was pretty bad. I did enjoy some of the characters though, esp. Mary Ellen and Curt, although their marriage sadly didn't last. It appeared that he was killed at Pearl Harbor but.......I don't want to ruin it for anyone who hasn't seen the show.

My mom was a fan of Little House on the Prairie.
My dad a fan of The Waltons.

I enjoyed both shows, still watch an occasional
episode with a friends granddaughter now and then..

I watched but wasn't really into the show. I did find a book about her at the thrift store. Can't remember the name. Haven't read it yet.

I do like that show even though I know it’s completely fictional. So many shows featuring children (I’m looking at you, Disney Channel) are scripted to have the kids acting like Little Adults and with a blankety-blank laugh track. (I hate most Disney Channel shows.)

LHOTP was scripted to let kids be kids, and as they got older, let the kids become ornery, sometimes sullen and/or rebellious teenagers. It is a rare TV show that writes children being actual children and grants their PARENTS the wisdom and roll of explaining Life to them.

God no, in so many TV shows and movies, the kids are often smart-alicks, explaining life to their parents. I don’t mean teens, like age 17+ who really can sometimes know more about what's going on than the adults. I mean 6, 7 and 9-year-olds who are written to be the smartest people in the room. REALLY? Then we can fire all the teachers.
