Left: I love our small town where chickens and rabbits have the priority and force cars to slow down or even wait.
Right: my daughter found a juvenile sparrow in front of the house, apparently suffering from heat exhaustion. We gave
it water and a place in the shade, and 1/2 hour later it was gone.

Visiting the local Kaiser office to have a dermatologist checking me for more skin cancers (she froze a dozen pre-cancerous
lesions,) I noticed that there was a free EV charging station in front of the building. How considerate; wonderful service.
I had my cancerous prostate removed with the robotic Da Vinci method in 2011. Since it had been a close call, I have a PSA
test every 6 months to keep an eye on a possible cancer spread. I just got an email that my next test is due. I have three
more doctor visits coming up, including my annual eye checkup (I had cataract surgeries) and my annual physical examination.
BTW, for nail fungus, I have been using Jublia. The pharmacist told me the cost for the one-year treatment is >$6K for which
I had a small co-payment. Today, the dermatologist assured me my toenail looks good,and I can discontinue using Jublia.

Left: at 84, I climbed the last time the 2 mile steep trail up to the top. Two years ago, I still walked the much longer
service road up to the communications tower. But that was it. I am getting too old for such long and strenuous hikes.
Right: Because homeless people are pilfering mailboxes, I rented 20 years ago a Post Office mailbox. It used to be
$65/year, but now it went up to $200 for the smallest box. Ouch. Is it really worth it?

$200 is a lot even for a year but sounds like you need it there.
 
Good morning, kids.

This morning DD is taking me to the garden center to visit. Clarence. You remember Clarence. The "Clarence" shelves are where the plants go to get marked down for whatever reason. Often there's no reason to be there except that their season has been determined to be over. When we go to the garden center, the first thing we do is visit Clarence:). There's nothing in particular that I'm looking for, but there might be plants that will jump into my cart and follow me home.

Morning all....it is cooler today goody, gooody....57F now, going to 75F later, slight rain chance...unsure what I'll do today, laundry all caught up, lawn mowed, oh I did call a handyman
about doing a tree cleanup, cut suckers off etc, also gonna have
him remove a bunch of junk from 2nd bedroom, just because,
also a 12x12 carpet here in living room, cuz I trip on it sometimes....y'all behave and be nice now, ya'hear !!! :giggle::coffee:😁

The plumber I had out the other day is making a chimney cap for my chimney, I think he will be back today to install it, not much else going on....change the bed and mop floors in 2 rooms.
@hawkdon I have a lot of crepe myrtle trees that are notorious for suckers, if I had known years ago what a pita they would be I would never have planted them, used to cut them off myself, now have to pay someone to do it.
 
Gawd, it's raining again! I think it's been 4 days now, with a few breaks now and then. There may be flooding in some areas, not mine fortunately.

I'm sure I caught what feels like it's going to be a bad cold. I had to take an allergy tablet earlier.

DS stopped by on his way home from work last night because I could NOT unlock my mailbox. He went up to the boxes and had no problem. What the? I don't know why I couldn't turn the key. o_O

Looks like a hamburger for either brunch or supper. Either riced cauliflower or asparagus. I have a small bag of those "baby" potatoes so I might make some potato salad if I keep up my energy; feel so logy.
 
Clarence was visited. There was so much marked down that it was still on the display tables instead of the usual rolling shelves. I didn't pay full price for anything because the only things that jumped into the cart were plants that had been marked down. Funny how that happened.

DGD finally got a diagnosis for the mystery illness that has plagued her for almost a year. It's called non-sero rheumatoid arthritis...that is, it doesn't show up on blood tests. Causes serious damage to joints and bones. She's being moved off short-term disability onto long-term. Her rheumatologist is also testing for lupus. She's 24 :(

As of now, she has maybe three out of four seven! good days, sometimes fewer, sometimes more.

After learning that most ice cream isn't really ice cream, (thus the tittle "frozen deserts"), and contains no dairy, I decided to make my own. Started making it early this morning.
Found out that 1... you don't need an ice cream machine, a plain old mixer will do and 2... it's relatively easy to make.
Started with some fresh whipping cream, whipped in my mixer, added sweet canned milk, (could use evaporated but then would have had to add sugar), and mixed in some chopped strawberries from our garden that I had previously frozen . A little more whipping and then, poured into a container. Now, here's the secret.... cover the mixture with parchment paper before sealing the container and that way, you don't get the freezer burn... or as I call it... protective ice. 🤣
Pretty simple and came out great. (y)

I'm going to say this is a good day.

I participated in my favorite hobby of acquiring music, with eleven pieces of Vinyl on their way to me. Most were things I've had a hankering for, and some were titles (soundtracks) that I've not heard, but am familiar with the artist (Steve Moore). I also finally bought a copy of Gavin Bryars The Sinking of the Titanic, which is simply one of the more beguiling pieces of music I've ever heard.

Over the next week or so they'll be arriving, and I shall be wallowing in my music.

Oh jeez Gigi.... this is not good news. has anyone else had it before?.. did she inherit it ? Poor girl.... :( what's the prognosis?
 
It's almost 6.30pm... been very hot today albeit windy earlier.. not so much now...

I went out with my friend for lunch and a wander around the Mall.. We both needed to go the Salon and get brows waxed etc.. so we did that.. then had coffee here.

then a little bit of shopping in TKmaxx...in the mall.. then into the sweet shop.. and be kids again... what choices.. anyone fancy some sweets ?

I understand. I wallow in my music on an HD radio frequency that plays classical music all day every day. When I get up in the morning and sit on the teeny, tiny patio with a cup of coffee, it helps me to gather my wits and think about the day's agenda.

DD was diagnosed a few years ago with "traveling" arthritis, but it hasn't been a problem until recently. Treatment for now is physical therapy and meds. It was discovered just this week that she has scoliosis, and we can't figure out how that was missed for all these years. She just turned 60 in May. AFAIK, nobody else on either side of the family has or had arthritis.

Right now, DGD's rheumatologist is trying different meds to see what at least relieves the pain and when she's determined if lupus is present as well, there will be some kind of plan. Don't have any idea yet what that will be.

Anyway, DGD is relieved to finally be able to put a name to what is and has been wrong. There are those who have leaned toward hypochondria or too much "coddling" all her life:rolleyes:. At age 12 she had spinal surgery to place titanium "grow rods" in her spine to combat severe scoliosis.

She is sick and tired of being sick and tired, but at least now she knows what it is.

I don't know for sure, but I think that after two years on long-term disability through her most recent job (she's a pharmacy tech and worked there for a little more than a year), then the private disability insurance is terminated and she will get Social Security disability and Medicare.

Good grief. Just this afternoon DD was diagnosed with OA in both knees. What? Doc told her that there are nine (9!) treatments to try before knee replacement and he's had patients who went for 20 years with OA before needing knee replacement.

I swear! I need to get outta here before I "catch" some dread disease from DD or DGD:oops:
 
Today my husband was at the back of our property. It is one kilometre of forested land. He goes back there to cut up wood for our Woodstove and makes mulch for our gardens by grinding up branches with a ‘wood grinder.’ Today while working he had a deer right beside him. He was cutting up branches with his chainsaw and putting them through the grinder and this deer didn’t care. The deer here don’t care how close we are to them. I have OA in both knees.. they tried steroid injections once then they said any more will destroy my knees.. so now I'm seeing a consultant at the end of the month to talk about knee replacement...
