OK. I will admit that I've watched zero of the Olympics. Zero. Not the opening ceremonies. Not Simone Biles. And now not the closing ceremonies.

Actually, I've been watching murder shows because they're important for my intellectual and emotional growth. Right? Anybody else willing to admit to being shallow and insensitive :), uninterested in world sporting events and good sportsmanship among diverse cultures that bring us together?

Neither me.not watched one single second of the Olympics.. I've read it's been pretty disastrous the way it's been run this year in Paris... hey who would have thunk the French couldn't organise a Piss up in a brasserie ..haha...only all of us Brits...:ROFLMAO:

Anyway I have no interest in the Olympics now... once upon a time I would have been glued to it.. not now men are allowed to bet woman in the name of sport..

Okay, but what about your emotional and intellectual growth? And I forgot to mention spiritual growth, too. What about being shallow and insensitive?

I thought I'd made a post that would challenge us all to have a substantive discussion about important ideas. Remember Eleanor Roosevelt's "great minds discuss ideas"? (the rest of what she said was that average minds discuss events, small minds discuss people). I kind of like the small minds and gossip part.

yes but you're forgetting the ongoing electricity prices which are enormous.... I have absolutely no intention of spending thousands of pounds on getting AC installed and then going without essential things so I can have it on.. that's madness...I'll stick with my fans for the few weeks we get of hot weather
Growing up in New England we didn't have AC.. And yes, for a few weeks a year we suffered but we survived.

I watched a bit when family came because they wanted to. I enjoyed the little I saw.

No I don't remember a single thing about Eleanor whatsername... she had nothing to do with us....:ROFLMAO:

Emotional and intellectual growth... I thought I showed the level of my intellect when I mentioned pissups and Breweries..:p

Nobody mentioned the Perseid meteor shower... or did I miss reading it? Supposed to be good tonight since the Moon sets around midnight.

“This is your best opportunity to see these celestial fireworks, and what they tell us is exactly when we pass through certain orbits of the comet (Swift-Tuttle) that produced these meteors,” Lunsford said. “And besides, it’s kind of fun … like having another Fourth of July.”

Yesterday morning it was a cool 66; this morning it's even better at 64!

@hollydolly That movie. Sigh. When I visit you, we absolutely have to go there. Don't forget that we'll need reservations for tea.

When DD gets back from taking DGD to PT this morning, we have to shuffle off to Walmart. We could have gone over the weekend and put up with the crowds, but all the little darlings are back in school this morning so much more tolerable today.

I the meantime, I've got gardening stuff to do. I took a look when I went out with coffee. The @!#$%^&*! moles are making mincemeat outta the new lawn. Between the moles and the weeds...

Morning folks.....it is 69F here this morning, got a bunch of
rain yest evening, may get some today, high of 80 or so....have
no definite plans as yet, but it is early in the day, I also did not
watch the olympics, just don't care about it any longer, same
with all spectator sports, you know i always tried out for the
sports in school, but never actually was "goood enuff" for the
coaches, never had one of those coveted letter jackets to wear around....ah well...lots of things I didn't succeed at in life, but
here i am still at it....catch you later~!!!;):coffee::coffee:

1930-something, 1940-something...all a long time ago. The one with Travor Howard. After I watch this, if I can find the 1970-something remake, maybe on Netflix, I'll watch that, too.

Piss-ups. Breweries. Yesss! You have a fine mind @hollydolly:ROFLMAO:
Some things are best left alone. Many original films like Brief Encounter and Casablanca have stood the test of time and there is no need to remake them.

Back here in the 'land of the mountain and the flood' The weather is awful - wet, windy and about 16 C. No gardening today, but a chance to get a bit of decorating done.

A fairly unproductive morning. I thought I could mop up some of the water that had pooled in the cellar. I have an old Quickie sponge mop I thought would be good for that. Well, I started to mop and one of the plastic nuts holding the sponge to the mop broke, so the sponge was flopping around all over and not effective. I rummaged through the odds and ends of hardware in the garage for a hex or wing nit to replace it. No wing nuts I could find and the hex nuts had too large holes.
Then I thought I could pick up a new sponge in a store. HAH! They don't make they style anymore, at least in the 5 stores I went to. Three stores didn't even have sponge replacements. Ones that did were Mr. Clean brand and didn't look like they would fit.
I ended up using an old Libman rag mop, but even that was difficult for me. Not very absorbent and very hard for me to ring out.
Well, at least I picked up my prescription, got gas for the car and brought up a large box of knitted items to dry out on the deck.

@debodun Is this a pre-step before washing them in your washer or is it affected by the flood too. Not a fun job.
I don't understand what you mean. My issue was that the mop broke. I don't know where the washer comes into play.
Why to you have rocks on the edge of your deck?
They were out on the lawn when I moved in, so to avoid damage to any lawnmower that worked for me, I put them on the deck out of the way. Don't ask me why the previous owner had so many rocks.

In the bottom photo, you’re drying out the blankets. I was afraid your washer was unusable because of the flood.

Wise to move those rocks. If they can run over little tree, they might have hit a rock.
