Why such hostility in online forums?

I'm fairly new here but have posted in a number of threads - some controversial .

I've disagreed with some folks, and some have disagreed with me, but it's all been pretty civil and IMO not personal.

The thing is, when you post something, you are putting yourself "out there" for whatever may come. The good news is, if there is a post you consider offensive (to you), then don't hesitate, hit the "report" button.

Also know, there are people on this Forum - and I am one of them - that really has no one to vent to, especially about certain personal subjects. So there can and will be some sensitive threads / posts for sure.

I'm reminded of an old family saying....

"Tact & diplomacy is the ability to tell someone to go to Hell, and have them look forward to the trip".
 
Fairly easy to solve the problem.....Block / Ignore people that get under your skin and notify admin. of hateful PM's.
 

I find it best to avoid “you” statements such as “You want to force every redhead to drink more pomegranate juice”. Instead say, “ I don’t think pomegranate juice keeps hair red”.

I guess just posting any messages here is just putting too much weight on other peoples' opinion, isn't it so I'll stop posting altogether. It seems to be a complete waste of time anyway.

There was another exchange between him and someone named Olivia before my remarks to him but either she left the forum or took those comments down so I was NOT the first to make derogatory personal remarks. I am not an emotionally reactive person. As a matter of fact, I've been told that I am coldly logical and not the least bit emotional. I am not looking for help or support here as it is very obvious that there is none being offered. You've decided that I was picking on Dilettante, so be it.

it's not possible for @Olivia to remove anyone's comments to her.. nor has she left the forum.... Any comments that have been removed have been so because they've been reported to admin..who is not Jules

admin is @Matrix ..and he will deal with any reports , and remove them if and only if he feels they are breaking forum rules...

No, just with certain people on this forum. I was given little or not support in my disagreement with Delettante - I was the bad one, I was the one to make derogatory remarks to him, not vice versa, in their opinions. I did enjoy other aspects of this forum but condescending remarks are just too depressing indicators of the way human nature is headed. I don't need such disrespect when I go online.

On the contrary, I'm not angry, just disappointed and disillusioned. My faith in human nature is at an all time low. There's no anger here; just confirmation of the lack of civility and support in the world we now live in.. BTW, other derogatory comments Ddelettante made to another forum member wound up in the Underground category of Seniorforums.com as did my original posting on the cultural revolution of the 1960s.

There is a "Report" link below every post, if you find one offensive, please feel free to report it.

You can report any posts for any reasons, or just simply want to bring anything to my attention.

I rely on member reports to moderate this forum, reports are always appreciated.
 
What the world needs now is love sweet love and a bit thicker skin.
The ignore button works wonders for those (few) whom you find unpalatable.
In life, make up you mind that you will enjoy yourself and you will. Let those who try to torment you pass through your sails, give them no power to push you in the direction they wish to go.
