Do you find the Vera series to be as good as the books, Cinnamon? I've never seen the series (we don't have BritBox) but I love the books.Running out of Vera episodes,
Well, of course the series ran to many more episodes than there are books; they state at the beginning of the episodes, "Based on the characters created by Ann Cleeves," so they are not going story-for-story. But, I think they have done *real well* in keeping the tone of the books and B. Blethyn absolutely nails Vera's character. In fact, she fleshes out Ann's original well with a wry sense of humor and a often-prickly exterior that covers a soft heart (but one that's not really good at human interaction).Do you find the Vera series to be as good as the books, Cinnamon? The locations are another bonus of the tv episodes.. filmed (best I understand) in the locations in which they are set, they are almost like another character... very atmospheric cinematography and evocative landscapes.
I don't think Netflix has any presence on any cable TV system. No cable and therefore, no Netflex for me!
I'm going to try and get my Roku, Smart Tv set up for receiving
the streaming stuff, I've had the set a year, and just have it
hooked up to Spectrum Cable...a lot of channels, and nothing
I want to watch....so going to try and follow directions in the
phamplet that came with the tv, and see if it works, then get
rid of cable......cross your fingers please!!!![]()
Looks interesting, CS! It's Danish, 24 episodes. Will check it out for sure."The Eagle" on Amazon Prime... not sure of country of origin (I did look) but cross-border crime series with Main Detective 1/2 Icelandic, and locations in Denmark and Sweden (so far). I love stretching my brain by hearing different languages and seeing new settings... definitely ain't Midsomer Murder, haha.
Dark Winds came to Netflix recently and I have been watching it.
We watch "Endeavor" once in awhile. More often it's "Lewis", or "Inspector Lewis". Good stories and good camaraderie between the two detectives. Sometimes though I get lost in the story line. The Brits have always been the best at murder mysteries, but often they're so complex that I get confused.Running out of Vera episodes, so (re)started "Endeavor" with Shaun Evans and Roger Allam. Oh, I love Roger's take on the level-headed and compassionate Fred Thursday. Only on the 2nd episode in which Morse has been relegated to general duties and was the first on the scene of what turns out to be a murder... After he posits some brilliant but seemingly-left field ideas about the victims/perps, Roger notes, "One day I'll send you out on a routine inquiry and it'll be just that. But I'm not holding my breath... you'd find something suspicious in a saint's sock drawer."![]()
