Finished the final episode of season 2, The Capture. 5/5

Vera, Endeavor and other British detective series have kept me occupied while I had covid; I do have some observations and questions:

on Endeavor: How does a PC afford a Jaguar? (Maybe I should read the books to get the background)

Roger Allam just is amazing as Fred Thursday... I wonder if that choice of name was a tongue-in-cheek nod to Drag Net's Joe Friday. Fred Thursday seems like the English version of a "just the facts, ma'am" kind of guy.

on Vera: I like that many of her locations (house-to-house stuff) is in some of the 'less-than-scenic' neighborhoods of the area. One thing that puts me off of Midsomer Murders at times is that all the locations are these picture-perfect English villages, filled with 'chocolate box' houses and immaculate gardens.

Also, I notice as long as Vera's calling you 'Pet' or 'Luv' you are ok but if she calls you "Sunshine" in that snide tone, you better watch yourself! lol

I have other thoughts on other shows, but that's enough for now...

I watched the first episode of Jack Irish and Recipes for Love and Murder on Acorn TV. After years of wanting to subscribe, I finally subscribed last week, at least for a month. I'm excited about it.

The same stuff is on Hoopla mostly, but it's tough to binge watch on credits. One series I watched an episode at a time on Hoopla was A Place to Call Home. I was almost at the end when I gave up.

Now I can go back to the beginning and binge watch it.

I'm still working my way through "Z Nation" but it still holds my attention and draws me in even in season 4. I'll be sad when I finish season 5.

Yes, it's about the zombie apocalypse and yes, there is some drama. But it isn't a grim slog like the Walking Dead franchise shows. Lots of humor along the way and some decent characters, like the aging hippie "Doc."

If you pay attention it also has a cameo here and there and lots of small Easter eggs. For example in one episode they go through Eerie, Indiana very quickly . Just enough to see a "Now Leaving" sign and call it out in a brief remark. Not long afterward Doc says: "For the love of Pete and Pete, pull over!"

This gag is a little on the sacrilegious side, with a baby born in a stable attracting a crew from afar to look on:

Oh, they're killing me here!

Just saw the group cross into Canada and fight off McKenzie Brother hoser zombies, zombie mounties, and a zombie hockey team. Somewhere in there were carny and clown hosers who captured them, and nun and bishop zombies in a church.

I have just started watching "The Terror", which is new on Netflix. It's a 10-episode show, so it'll take me a while.

The book by Dan Simmons, was absolutely fantastic, so I have great hopes for the series.

It's a fictionalized account, based on a true story, of the disastrous voyage of the British ships Terror and Erebus in an attempt to discover a northwest passage through the arctic.

It's a tragic and fascinating story. The book and series are somewhat supernatural in nature but the real story resulted from poor planning.

I enjoyed Netflix's 9 part series, "Inventing Anna." It's a little confusing at first as the show lays some ground work, but half way through it gets tense. I'll say this may be noteworthy as I have a hard time searching through all Netflix titles to find something interesting to me.

I have two Netflix hands down favorites, The Queen's Gambit and Don't Look Up. I even bought them for my personal collection. They were kind of pricey, and not easy to find, because Netflix, knows they are popular and has a thing about wanting us to stream, rather than own. I will stream Netflix for 2 or 3 months, and then rely on my personal stash for a while, until I sign up for a different service for 2 or 3 months. But never more than one service at a time.

Just a thought you might want to try. You can look at all the titles through JustWatch.com. There you can filter out the genres you like or see what's popular or filter in other ways.

This is a list of everything on Netflix sorted by popularity.

Or if you feel adventurous, you can spin the Netflix Roulette and see what it comes up with. (Sometimes I'll do that just to see if anything sparks an interest.)

Netflix Roulette: What Should I Watch?

tbh, what I actually do is to tell AI what I'm in the mood for and have it narrow down the search, but not everyone is into AI.

My wife has an addiction to America’s Funniest Home Videos and is currently watching an episode on Prime. Personally I can’t see the humor in watching a zillion people fall on their arse.

One did get me to laugh though, a family feeding a gopher by putting a treat in front of his hole in the ground. They decided to take a break and quit with the treats, when he shoots out of his hole, grabs their bag of treats, and runs 30 feet and dives into another hole.

I’m watching “My Brilliant Friend “ on HBO MAX. It’s based on Elena Ferrante’s Neopolitan Novels.
I began watching it years ago but the Covid pandemic halted production. It’s 4 seasons, each based on the 1 of the 4 Ferrante Novels. They just released season 4.
It’s excellent.

I seem to remember that Endeavor got the Jag after a promotion for some exceptionally good work.

I love Thursday, too, he's so steady and reliable, but Endeavor is brilliant and sensitive, and Bright is far more courageous and strong than his rather prissy demeanor would make us think, and Strange is so honest and hard working and sad to always be taking second place to Endeavor.
Yep. I love all four of them. The episode that ended with all four of them facing down a bunch of evil guys in a truck yard made me swoon. I've had to watch it several times.

I am streaming the second season (S2) of The Old Man (FX & Hulu). The pilot episode started out slow but I stuck with it because I like Jeff Bridges so much. And I'm glad I did because it got good. I couldn't wait for it to return and can't believe it's been 26 months since the S1 finale and the S2 premiere! They dropped two episodes at once.

@MarkinPhx You mentioned Harold Perrineau calling for Walt in Lost. :D I'd forgotten about that. I am liking him in From...I think he's playing his part very well...very believable. I just wish the writers didn't insert F**k every other sentence! I don't understand why they think that makes for a good script! If I wasn't so engrossed with the show, I wouldn't watch. Normally the frequent use of vulgarity is a deal breaker for me.

Also, I was a iZombie fan for a while. I lost track of it after losing interest in some of the story lines. I got back to it and watched some episodes on Netflix. When I decided to cancel Netflix, I had a month to watch my shows, so I just watched a couple more episodes that I wanted to catch, then jumped the the final two. I like how they ended it.

I just saw this. I'm looking forward to it. The season premiere is on CBS on Sunday Sept. 22 at 8 pm.

It's the reboot of Matlock with Kathy Bates as the main character. She's a 75 year old lawyer who uses the invisibility of old women as her superpower. She can get away with anything, and does. No one sees it coming. Looks like a hoot.

Reminds me of the old Mrs. Pollifax mysteries where the main character uses her persona as an old lady as cover for being a spy for the CIA. I loved that series when I was young. I think I read or listened to most of the 14 books in the series. There was a movie I've never seen called Mrs. Pollifax Spy that looks like it's on Amazon Prime.
