Are you streaming ( or binge watching ) any series on Netflix, or any other service? Tell us about it.

I am streaming the second season (S2) of The Old Man (FX & Hulu). The pilot episode started out slow but I stuck with it because I like Jeff Bridges so much. And I'm glad I did because it got good. I couldn't wait for it to return and can't believe it's been 26 months since the S1 finale and the S2 premiere! They dropped two episodes at once.
I too was anxiously awaiting the 2nd season. And I'm a big Jeff Bridges fan as well. But after the first 2 eps it has to get a lot better for my taste.

The 1st season was fascinating because of Bridges' reveal as a former CIA agent, and how he got dragged back into the life. His interactions with the Amy Brennerman character was catchy and compelling, and the introduction of Bridges prior CIA colleague John Lithgow provided additional layering.

But none of that is present in the current season's first 2 eps. No pizzazz. To me there's way too much time devoted to the discovery of Hamzad's daughter and their long and boring interaction. Hopefully they'll veer away from this story line and develop something more interesting.

@MarkinPhx You mentioned Harold Perrineau calling for Walt in Lost. :D I'd forgotten about that. I am liking him in From...I think he's playing his part very well...very believable. I just wish the writers didn't insert F**k every other sentence! I don't understand why they think that makes for a good script! If I wasn't so engrossed with the show, I wouldn't watch. Normally the frequent use of vulgarity is a deal breaker for me.
...
I couldn't agree more with you, Diva! In some series and movies, a sentence is not uttered without including some form of the word. It gets to be like fingernails on a blackboard. The practice speaks to my observation about modern American decay. The degeneration seems to have no bottom. I won't get started...:cautious:

Prime. Just started watching The Mallorca Files. British and German police officers are working in Mallorca as punishment. Kind of a stretch considering how beautiful it is there. It’s an imitation of the 80s series Moonlighting with Cybill Shepherd and Bruce Willis. The show theme song even has ‘moonlighting’ in the first line. She wears white runners and practical clothes like Cybill did. It’s light. Some nights that’s all I want.

It's unfortunate that I have to agree with your last two sentences Doc! Audiences must be okay with it because the practice is proliferating. I'm actually thinking of going on From's FB page, if one exists and write my thoughts about that. But moderators sometimes don't permit (what would be perceived as) negative comments about their shows' pages. Of course, there are other indications that society is decaying. ☹️

Regarding S2 of The Old Man. Like you, I wasn't as impressed with the premiere episode but wanted to keep watching to see what would happen when she meets her real father. I felt the emotion the daughter had and the scene where they beat the crap out of each other was...like wow. I thought one of them would wind up dead. I have about 10 minutes to go in that one. I'm "invested", so I'll probably stick with it.

Also, I was a iZombie fan for a while. I lost track of it after losing interest in some of the story lines. I got back to it and watched some episodes on Netflix. When I decided to cancel Netflix, I had a month to watch my shows, so I just watched a couple more episodes that I wanted to catch, then jumped the the final two. I like how they ended it.
I have always liked him in any show he has been in but I think sometimes the Lost writers didn't know what to do with his character. That is why I made the "Walt" comment because a lot of times he seemed to be screaming that for half an episode.

From did keep me entertained and I am looking forward the next season. I know it comes out on MGM Plus later this month but I'll probably wait to see if it pops up on Plus later on. There isn't much on MGM Plus that looks appealing to me so it would be a waste to subscribe to just watch the one show.

I have been streaming 'Sweet Magnolias' on Netflix. 'The Middle' is over so I have to find a new family. 😊
Funny about this show. One of the main characters, Maddie is played by Joanna Garcia who played the daughter on one of my favorite shows, 'Reba'.
The story line on Reba is that Reba's dentist husband leaves her for his younger assistant who is pregnant with his child. Reba's teenage daughter, Cheyenne (JoAnna) is pregnant and marries her football star boyfriend.
The show is a comedy about how the family deals with all this. It's a great funny show although the premise is sad.

Now, on Sweet Magnolias, JoAnna's character Maddie's pediatrician husband leaves her for a young assistant who is pregnant with his child. The show is a drama and the premise is sad. I'm waiting for Maddie's teenage son to become father to a pregnant girlfriend.

I haven't looked to see if the writers are the same on both shows. It wouldn't surprise me.

Finished up The Perfect Couple (2024) last night. Despite a stellar cast, e.g. Nicole Kidman, Liev Schreiber, Dakota Fanning, it was a slog to get through the 6 episodes. Briefly it's about a wealthy family on Nantuckett who is full of snobs and snots, and is about to marry off one of the sons to a non-wealthy gal. A murdered guest appears in the surf.

It's not only that I couldn't relate to any of the characters, but the whole thing seemed too contrived. They'd have done better making it a dark comedy. The final episode was pretty good when all the "reveals" popped up. I suspect it would appeal more to women, although my wife didn't like it.

I’m getting into KAOS on Netflix. It’s set in modern society in kind of an alternative universe where the Greco-Roman gods are real, and still actively interacting with and setting parameters for humanity. Jeff Goldblum is a hoot as Zeus, an all-powerful but rather world-weary deity who feels that his control may be slipping. Other major and minor deities are there, too, but dressed in modern garb rather than flowing robes. The Fates are even represented, operating kind of a celestial game show.

The series is clever and entertaining. Deceased souls ride a large ferry boat to the afterlife, but can only cross the river Lethe if they have their coins. Hades plays orientation videos to the newly departed. It’s all a great “what if” fantasy…

My only complaint is, as others have noted, language. When did we reach that point where obscenities and vulgarities have to be inserted into at least every other line of dialogue to make material palatable to the masses? It adds nothing, and drags us down further as a society, a trend already well under way…

I'm finishing up Netflix's Inventing Anna. I found the first episode rather slow, but I quickly got interested and binged the entire series in 2 days (well, nights).

Not binging, because it's new, but I love 'High Potential' on ABC and Hulu, staring Kaitlin Olson. It's a US version of 'HPI' from France. 'HPI' (called 'HIP' in the US on Hulu) is a quirky detective show involving a 160 IQ goofy lady. There are 3 seasons of the English dubbed French show on Hulu which I did binge! Also starting now is a Greek version of the show too. It's fun in any language.

I like gritty tv shows like Banshee, Prison Break, & Justified. Hulu has a lot of good shows and movies.
https://tubitv.com has a wide selection of movies and tv shows.
I stream media from Netflix, Peacocktv, Hulu & Disney combo, HBO/MAX, tubitv, Amazon Prime. Paramount ended contract with Showtime so I stopped subscribing.
youtube is also a great place to stream media.
I watched Prison Break in 2005 and I'd watch it again. 👍👍

An innocent man, Lincoln Burrows, is falsely accused and framed for the murder of the Vice President's brother and scheduled to be executed at a super-max penitentiary. His younger brother Michael Scofield, a structural engineer who helped design the prison, has a genius scheme to save his brother from a death sentence and installs himself in the same prison by holding up a bank. As the final month ticks away to Lincoln's execution, he launches the escape plan step-by-step to break both of them out from the inside, using his full body tattoo as his guide—a tattoo that hides the layout of the prison facility and necessary clues vital to the escape. You can watch it on Netflix and Hulu.

Right now I'm watching Guy Richie's The Gentlemen on Netflix.

The Gentlemen see Eddie Horniman (Emmy nominated Theo James) unexpectedly inherit his father’s sizeable country estate—only to discover it’s part of a cannabis empire. What's more, a host of unsavory characters from Britain’s criminal underworld want a piece of the operation. Determined to extricate his family from their clutches, Eddie tries to beat the gangsters at their own game.

A very dark action comedy. I'm on the bus, and it's a wild ride!

I recorded this but we haven't watched it yet. It sounds really good plus Ms. Olson does a fantastic job on another show I like, Hacks (on Max streaming).

The 4th season of Slow Horses --Spook Street-- landed on Apple+ (and some other services) on September 4th. Starring the redoubtable Gary Oldman, the stories revolve around a "black sheep" squad of trickle down misfits attached to MI5.

The Brit series is very well directed, storied, and acted by virtually the entire cast. My one beef is that Oldman's character is so slovenly, dirty, and irascible, that it strains credulity that he could remain employable. Still, his irreverent humor gradually arrests you.

The Penguin is now a limited series on HBO and HBO Max, and yes, this is the villain from the DC Batman universe, but you won’t see Batman. There’s actually little superhero flavor to the series, which plays more like a crime drama from the point of view of The Penguin.

I like the series as Penguin (referred to as “Oz Cobb” = Oswald Cobblepot) is played as a believable figure, not a deformed freak with a pointed nose and flipper fingers. Colin Farrell plays “Penguin” as an aspiring crime boss, smart and ruthless. There are nods to the character‘s roots in his limping, side-to-side walk, and in Episode 1 we see him using an umbrella. Penguin wears a leg brace, has a foot deformity, and facial scarring. This is one tough cookie who unlike previous interpretations of the character might exist in reality; Penguin is not cartoonish…

So if you’re a fan of Batman’s rogue gallery or just like crime dramas, check out The Penguin…

Evil on Paramount. I haven't seen a show that has creeped me out this much for long time. It still relies on the usual Hollywood memes and formulas, and the times that it does, it takes them over the top. I don't believe in the supernatural, but I still enjoy a good chill.

Do you have the tier of Paramount + with the ads, @JustDave? We really liked that show and still haven't seen Season 4 yet but we're wondering how bad the ads are?

I get the one without ads. It's worth it to me. Paramount has a 7 day free trial, and I will watch watch all 20 episodes of season 3 and 4 before that 7 days is up because I binge watch. But I've noticed some other things that may keep me signed up for another month. I won't sign up if there is no ad free option. Just won't happen. But no, there are no ads on the free trial period, at least if you sign up for that option.

I came here to post about this Don. I literally just started watching about an hour ago and will finish it during or after lunch. I think I'm going to really like it. She's sort of like a female Will Trent; that series hooked the hell outta me during the first episode. I had seen Kaitlin Olson (Morgan) on GMA where they talked about the show and played a clip. The premise and recognizing some of the cast (including the gorgeous Daniel Sunjata who plays Adam) piqued my interest. I like Morgan's chutzpah, the way she breaks down the evidence and that they have these campy characters pop upas she's doing it.

@Fyrefox I really like Jeff Goldblum and also saw him on GMA talking about the show. The trailer they showed for KAOS didn't thrill me so I felt like I wouldn't be likely to watch, but your synopsis makes it seem more interesting, so when I subscribe to Netflix again, I'll check it out.

You know, I've decided not to watch a show until it's at least a few seasons in. So many I've started take forever to come back or never do!

Jack Whitehall has released a 4 part show on NF. Fatherhood with My Father. He’s a British standup comic, if you don’t know him. He often does these personal (exaggerated) excursions with his 83 year old, pompous father.

I’m surprised some of they were allowed into some of the places they went.

Wow! I never would have recognized Collin Farrell ! He was very good in the Sugar series from earlier in the year. That's when I realized the guy was a good actor.

Thanks for the tip! Will check it out.

DC had such phenomenal success with their full length "Joker" movie, which totally did not include Batman, that "Penguin" was probably inevitable. Not sure how it works as a series. I would have stuck with the premise and format of "Joker." DC gets it together once in a while, and often follows success with a bunch of clunkers. It's like they can't figure out what was good about their successes.
