Definition:

The Western is a genre of fiction typically set in the American frontier (commonly referred to as the "Old West" or the "Wild West") between the California Gold Rush of 1849 and the closing of the frontier in 1890, and commonly associated with folk tales of the Western United States, particularly the Southwestern United States, as well as Northern Mexico and Western Canada.[

The only I am unfamiliar with is Rango. Will look it up! Thanks for the feedback!

So many to remember, tough to pick a top five but in no particular order;

How The West Was Won
Stagecoach
Dances With Wolves
Open Range
Tombstone

I also liked Lonesome Dove but that was a mini series.
Tombstone is a favorite of mine as well. Great acting. Especially great impersonation of Ringo! BTW The actor Stephen Lang who played
in Avatar is the same actor who played Ike in Tombstone.

In no particular order....

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
High Noon
Unforgiven
The Wild Bunch
Treasure of Sierra Madre

Bonus for The Lonesome Dove miniseries
I just watched Unforgiven all the way through for the first time last year. Definitely one of my favorites.
Sierra Madre (a different kind of role for Bogart)
The Good Bad Ugly (that ending is classic)
High Plains Drifter (welcome home boys)

One of my least favorite genres.

My grandfather loved Country music and Westerns though. Most had John Wayne in them!
