Yep, same here. I liked the "Lawrence Welk Show". It seemed like a got compromise for my age., and he had some really great musicians, singers on. A one-a, a two-a, a three-a,Big Band was actually something of my parent's generation, but even as a teenager when everyone had gone Rock and Roll, I had a strong appreciation for Glenn Miller.
What a great clip featuring the Glenn Miller Orchestra, with lead vocalist, Tex Beneke. Who was the woman vocalist? Marion Hutton, Betty Hutton's sister. And what about the great Nicholas Brothers!? They spice up every movie they were ever in. Pop music had such class then. These are some songs from the Big Band Era, please add any of your favorites!![]()
A classic big band tune with Gene Krupa always doing an extended drum solo when Benny Goodman's band played it live.Sing, Sing, Sing by Benny Goodman
Exactly. Big band era was definitely my parents taste in music however I belong to a jazz band that played Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman. I still play them on my saxophone to this day.Big Band was actually something of my parent's generation, but even as a teenager when everyone had gone Rock and Roll, I had a strong appreciation for Glenn Miller.
You're really bringing back the memories! I really liked there, "I Don't Know Why", and later, "A Teenager in Love". They did some great slow dancin' songs too!!Between my Dad playing his country music and my Mom playing the big band music, we always had music playing in our home. Here is one of my Mom's favorites. She heard the Belmonts sing this song on American Bandstand back in the 50"s, I believe and she liked their version better than Dorsey/Sinatra. I believe that there was also a movie titled, "I'll Be Seeing You."
This was such a fun song to play. I liked the part where the entire band sang Chattanooga Choo Choo oh- oh- oh!! It was a real crowd pleaser.Glen Miller - Chattanooga Choo Choo
