Has anyone ever purchased a replacement battery for a Dyson vacuum on Amazon. They’re not cheap. $140+, depending on model.

tbh I wouldn't give 5 pence for anything from Dyson...

I know there are the dyson lovers out there but really it's not well made, and it's way overpriced...

I have a Miele Cat & Dog..Cannister Vaccum. It's super powerful, and solidly built... I've had it for at least 15 years I've never had to replace a single thing on it apart from dustbags.. and it only cost the price (at the time) of what Dyson are asking for a new battery.. ridiculous!

Not that one @Knight. That’s the price in the US so not available here.

It’s a model V11 Turbo. Not cat or dog style.

Before this we had a German brand that was highly rated and only lasted 4 or 5 years. The shop told us it had such a poor track record, they quit carrying it.

I wish that cordless vacuums could come designed to have a dustbag, so as not to have to "re-visit" ones dust, dirt and hair.

We’ve really liked this Dyson. It’s used every day. DH is advocate of repairing as long as he can.
yes but before long you'll be saying that the dyson has lasted for a very long time.. because you've repaired it.. but it's cost you as much as a new one to replace..

It's like that old joke when the cleaner is asked how long he's had the Broom.. and he says he's had the same one for 20 years... it's only had 5 new heads, and 4 new handles.. it's madness..:D

get a Miele Cat & Dog...much better, much more powerful much more likely to last and never need repair... :D

Good luck on replacing the battery or whatever it takes to get a good vacuum going again. :)

We just had to buy a new vacuum. We bought a Shark brand at Target. The only thins I don't like is that trying to tilt while vacuuming near a cord or something, the whole head swivels instead of tilt. You have to pick it up and move it. Good suction, handy accessory wand. $159.99

Almost all major vacuum manufacturers borrowed design features from Dyson soon as the patents expired.

My Dyson is electric. I bought it about a year after they hit the US market, probly 15yrs or so ago. It crapped out on me last year, and it's probably reparable, so I stuck it in my closet, but my lovely DIL gave me her "old" one after she bought herself a new one, which only encouraged me to procrastinate on getting mine fixed. Maybe in another 15 years. 🤪

MY DD loves her shark.. she keeps telling me to get one beause of course it's cordless .. but I'm fine with the Miele despite it being corded .. and the little cordless vacs I have which I use on a daily basis.. and then once a month I do a deep clan with the Miele all through the house..

Yikes, sometimes it's cheaper to buy a new vacuum, or other equipment. I'm pretty happy with this vacuum I bought from Amazon. I expect it will last...I don't know 3,4,5 maybe 6 years. When it dies it goes to e-waste and I buy something else.
I know what you mean, Nathan... but I hate the situation. I have a gas-powered weed-eater/brush cutter, but it's too heavy for DW to use. She's got a lightweight, compact Toro rechargeable trimmer (for detail work). Mechanically it still works, but the battery gave out (in about 5 years). New batteries aren't at all readily available, but I did locate one source at $80 more than the whole trimmer kit cost. Shipping would bump that price up, too.

The situation with name-brand rechargeable-tool batteries (Milwaukee, Makita, etc) is often pretty similar. A replacement battery may not be more, but may be nearly as much as the original kit. And with something like a cordless drill, a professional-quality tool kit complete with case is often offered by local equipment retailers at a reduced "sale" price.
