Haiti deteriorating, US starting to evacuate embassy, Gangs controlling streets

Conditions in Haiti deteriorating fast. Gangs roaming/terrorizing streets. The US starting evacuations at US embassy

MSN

If it's not a natural disaster it seems anyway like political unrest flares up but this seems worse than usual. I was hoping after the horrible earthquake years ago rebuilding would help things progress and advance but I guess not.

Peace

I saw that on the news. It is truly a frightening situation. It was reported that U.S. citizens may not be able to get out but it's good that the military was deployed to airlift them out. But it says they got "some" out. I wonder how many are left. The poor Haitian have been victims of hellish situations.

"Victims" of who ? ........ it is they're own people.

Marines on the ground there today, holding the US Embassy security, and relieving other Marines.

Glad the airport was secured/closed immediately when this all went down.

A recent meeting of the 15 nation Caricom group decided that a 1,000 man Police force from Kenya would be sent to Haiti, to try to restore order. My very first thought was that Kenya, a former British colony, is an English speaking country, while people in Haiti speak French. Talk about creating a problem even before the Kenyans might arrive ? In any case, the idea was shot down , and cancelled.

The Canadian Armed Forces have in the past sent French speaking military forces to Haiti, as have the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Surete De Quebec Provincial Police. Being able to speak the language of the local people goes a long way towards getting cooperation from them. At this time our Ambassador to the UN Bob Rae is trying hard to get an international force organized to act under UN mandate, and intervene in Haiti as soon as possible.

Rae's most recent statement was that "Canada will send Police officers to Haiti, to try to evacuate Canadian citizens who are stuck there ". Approximately 3,000 Canadian citizens are currently living in Haiti. That could happen as soon as this weekend. The problem is that both of the International airports in Haiti have been effectively shut down by the gangs, so evacuations may need to be done by ships, not aircraft. That would slow down the pace of removals considerably.

I recently watched a story about the history of Haiti. They were ruled by the French at one time but became the first Caribbean country to declare independence and rule under their own law. It was through a series of corrupt governments that they became so destitute. Now it has brought them to this place.

Vlad Duthiers, who is of Haitian/French descent has been covering the situation in Haiti on CBS Mornings. It has been quite enlightening. He covered this morning the number of Haitians being deported out of the Dominican Republic and how horribly they have been treated. All very tragic.

perhaps haiti is an "illustration" to us all - of - "this is what really hell on earth and perhaps hell beyond earth will be like" - it's an illustration of mans final fall?

Haiti had to endure long times of exploitation. There have been discussions that France should pay Haiti billions of dollars as reparations. But France refused to do so. After the earthquake in 2010 Haiti got huge amounts of money, donated by people from all over the world. What happened with the money? I think that corrupt elites had filled their pockets and the people got nothing. The new earthquake in 2021 worsened the situation. An excellent breeding ground for criminal gangs.

First thing that I thought would happen .. and now it is.

DeSantis deploys 250 officers, soldiers in Florida to stop illegal immigration from Haiti.

Amid the chaos and violence taking place in Haiti, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced steps he's taking to "stop potential influx of illegal immigration" from the Caribbean nation.

Located southeast of Florida, Haiti is about 600 miles from Miami. Boats of immigrants fleeing the country are common on Florida shores.

On Feb. 29, a boat carrying 24 men, women and children from Haiti was stopped in the Sebastian Inlet in what law enforcement authorities said was a disrupted smuggling attempt.

For those that do not know......The United States Government occupied the country of Haiti for nineteen YEARS during the period from 1915 to 1934. The USMC became the National Police Force in Haiti, and during that period of time an estimated fifteen thousand people in Haiti were killed by American troops. While the US finally removed their military occupation troops in 1934, the US Government continued to have control of the financial sector of the economy of Haiti until 1947. The US also in the same time period occupied the Dominican Republic, which shares the island with Haiti. Here is a link to a modern news article that appeared in the New Yorker Magazine. link.

^^^ Why does Jim B hate America?

As far as I can tell Haiti has been a mess since Columbus, a Spaniard, visited in 1492 roughly 300 years before the US even existed.

Wiki- " The external debt of Haiti is a notable and controversial national debt which mostly stems from an outstanding 1825 compensation to former slavers of the French colonial empire and later 20th century corruptions.

The French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars in Europe allowed rebel Haitian slaves to overpower French colonial rule and gain independence in the 1791–1804 Haitian Revolution. The restored French monarchy, supported by European monarchies, sent the 1825 French expedition to Haiti to demand, with military menace, massive compensations: Haiti had to repay the French government and former slaveholders the modern equivalent of US$105 billion, later reduced to US$21 billion for the loss of massively profitable slave-plantation assets and revenues. This price for independence was financed by French banks and the American Citibank, and finally paid off in 1947.

Later, the corrupt Duvalier dynasty added to the country's debts. The Duvaliers are believed to have used the money to expand their power and for their personal enrichment. In the early 21st century, and especially after the devastating earthquake in 2010, the World Bank and some other governments had planned to forgive the debt. Instead, remaining parts of Haiti's debt repayments were postponed. France forgave a more recent loan with a balance of US$77 million, but has refused to consider repaying the independence debt.

These debts are denounced as the root of contemporary Haiti's poverty and a case of odious debt, debt forced upon a population with abusive force. In 2022, The New York Times published a dedicated investigative series on that matter.[1]".

NYT Haiti Debt

"More than 200 years ago, enslaved Haitians successfully revolted against their French masters and declared themselves free. Two decades later, the French government demanded Haitians pay reparations to former slave masters, under the threat of war. Without the funds to pay, Haitians had to take out a loan from French banks. This would come to be known as the “double debt,” and is part of the reason Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the world today."

So yeah it was the Clintons and the US occupation that was the cause of the disaster known as Haiti.

Not surprising, but this actually isn't new. I lived in Miami from 1988-2005, and regardless of the laws at the time it always seemed Cubans were always welcome to enter the country but Haitians were frequently turned away. At one time, Cubans were considered Political Refugees and Haitians were considered Economic Migrants.

Everyone complains about the Border Crisis these days but Miami received 2700 hardened criminals from Cuba during the Mariel Boatlift.

Basically it the Communist plan. Its being pushed by Iran AKA Communist crapper and Communism's overall goal of Chaos.
Let em kill themselves is the best approach to get peace. Sure, nuke em with over decisively effective weapons strategies are
a good play to end all the crap they are pulling.
It's basically a piece of crap place in the world thinking it has control of the Suez Canal.

Paper Tiger. I guess you missed the fact that the topic of this thread is the island of Haiti ? No one has mentioned Communist countries, or the middle east. I am really glad that you aren't making decisions of a military nature. Nuke em ? For goodness sake, what past decade are you stuck in ? JimB.

My post was deleted....non political reasons?
Oh I mentioned the Clinton's!
Did you not read the terms and conditions before you "signed on the dotted line" and joined us? Are you OD? (Oppositional Defiant.) ODD would be Oppositional Defiant Disorder diagnosis... I always thought that acronym was comical.

Oh... and what some would call your "bully fit" above repeating "Clinton's" three times in three different posts made me laugh. (Plural meaning more than one Clinton would be "Clintons" without the apostrophe... to put that apostrophe in there would be talking about something that belongs to a Clinton... like "Mrs. Clinton's coat.") An apostrophe shows possession.

I'm not saying the U.S. was right to do that. But I'm sure they thought at the time it was a place to establish a presence for future wars. Rather the same way we colonized Hawaii. The same way our nation invaded Afghanistan and Iraq. Footholds for future wars.

What changed between 1915 & 1934 militarily ? Our planes got a lot better and could fly much further and the aircraft carrier was developed. History of the aircraft carrier - Wikipedia

I'm not saying the U.S. was right. Not at all. But if you want a motive, look to wars. (Please do not extrapolate this thinking to people because when people trespass, it's a crime. However, when governments do it, it's not really a crime, is it? If that were the case, Putin would have been arrested a long time ago for invading Ukraine and other nations. Putin actually does have a warrant out for his arrest, but they will never catch him because he stays at home, safe in his oligarchy.)

I'm just trying to offer an explanation for U.S. foreign policy from 1915-1934, not an excuse. Just like there is no excuse for preventing women from voting for 144 years.

I have been reading now that many places have the illegal Haitians coming into their states, and even some here in Alabama where I live.
I thought that the venezuelan gangs taking over the apartments in some cities was terrible, but now I am reading that the Haitians are actually stealing or capturing peoples pets, any wildlife in parks or in the woods around the towns and eating them.
It is not that these people are starving, because they have all been given food cards, money and places to live; it is that they are used to eating dogs and cats in Haiti and like to eat them.

The above post by @Happyflowerlady is not based on any truth or fact. It is conspiratorial, I will not say she lied but bamboozeled.

There are NO REPORTS from any police agency that Haitians are stealing pets and eating them. I believe this is a gruesome attempt to soil the upcoming election.
