A Nice Walk ( with photos )

I’ve never seen dragon fruit grown commercially here in South Aust , however I noticed a large area of DF plantings on our way home from the city about 3 weeks ago so someone must be giving it a try concidering we are are the dryest state in Aust

I'll try to post pictures of some epi flowers I've grown. Not truly dragon fruits but related and my stepson refers to all of them as dragon fruit. Big spectacular flowers but no fruit which doesn't bother me as I don't especially care for them either.

But I'll put it in my gardens thread and link you here when I do.

Why do Australians say smoko?
@RadishRose

The tradition of a smoko in the Australian sense seems to have begun amongst sheep shearers in the 1860s. Although a slang term, the word "smoko" has been used in government writing and industrial relations reports to mean a short work break.

Thanks K seems it all began with a "smoke break". I remember you calling chickens "chooks". You guys have your own language and it's charming! :)

My mother brought me up drinking black tea with milk and sugar and she did have lots of smokes but those were Pall Malls. ;)

Hey can you throw another chook on the barbie for me?

I had 7 siblings …… 5 living …including me ( eldest ) yep very much the same here Mark …mother 59 died of boose induced dementia
Did you mom drink a lot? My mom was about 85 when she started getting dementia. She drank quite a bit but I think the stroke she had was what pushed her over the edge, dementia wise. It’s very sad watching loved ones lose their mind.

Yes @PeppermintPatty every day ….while we starved ….the very reason … I’ve never drank or smoked.
She developed alcohol induced dementia at 50 soon after my step father died @ 60 years old ….so my youngest brother was left without parents at 9 years old cause our mother was placed in a institution…. where she was till she died at 59 …
3 deceased siblings 10 years younger then myself died in their 50’s due to following thier parents bad habits

I look at it as what a wasted life …….here I’m I at 78 ….not far off 79 ….no serious health issues …apart from BP pill I take 1/2 a pill a day for …reluctantly ….. walked 5 km yesterday…..going dancing today as mentioned …we will be dancing from 12.30 to ..3.30 …..

and yeah yeah I’m organised …no nagging please ….. 🤣 🤣 🤣

I just stopped for a morning smoko ..and a bicky …that’s a biscuit
and not just any biscuit ..it has to be arnotts ( SA made) spicy fruit roll bicky.

Sorry Kadee. I didn’t realize you answered my questions in this post. My apologies.

yes once ..it was to much for me …..OMG the huge Big old stone creepy building was surrounded by a huge wire fence no razor wire but very similar to prisons …..and the yard was full of people with dementia….some had the belief they were kangaroos and jumped around the fence like a roo’s ….omg …the big stone building/ fence is still there but it’s surrounded by a big new development of town houses.( it was the hospitals ground )
@PeppermintPatty

I lived 3 hour drive each way from Adelaide where my mother was in the institution so it wasn’t as if she was just down the road

I tasted beer for the very first time when I was 40 years old , and I’ve tasted wine that tasted more like vinegar to me …..nah never ever tasted more than a sip of either … the pub life never interested me ..it just not my style sitting in a pub day after …day ….i put I put up with drunks at home ….I had no interest in putting up with them as a social outing as well …… I’d rather be out in the garden TBH

Where we dance is a community hall no booze seen at ANY dances we attend here or interstate .

Never smoked …..i never liked the smell …of cigarettes when I was a kid ,
so had no intentions of taking in that smelly habbit …..Drugs yep ….:):) but wait ….not anything like that 😀😀, when I go get my packet of BP and cholesterol pills once every 2 months ..I say to the chemist I’ve come in for my drugs 😄😄😄😄😄 my cholesterol is 3.8 so i don’t even know why I take them ..( once a week ) .

And besides I was flat out feeding myself and the kids let alone finding money for booze and smokes ,
DH drank when I met him ..(only beer ) ( 1 was single for 14 years by choice )

DH gave up drinking long ~ long … ago he’s never smoked or taken drugs , either he may have one can of light beer at Christmas but usually doesn't bother .

Where we live there is 6 hotels in a small town .I've never been in any of them ….and when DH wanted a carton of beer ( he’d buy a carton once or twice a year ) he ask me of I’d get it and I’d blankly refuse if he wants to drink it he has to go buy it …..simple as that

I’m not judging you Kadee. It must have been horrible having an alcoholic as a mother. The institution sounds depressing as ever.

You sound like you did well taking care of yourself when you were younger. Good for you. I never smoked cigarettes as a kid but did smoke tobacco when I smoked hash. I loved hash. It was my favourite thing to smoke.

I hated beer when I was a kid but loved dessert type drinks like Baileys Irish cream or pina coladas. I did drugs when I was a kid.

In my twenties I went dancing a lot with my friends and we definitely drank. I never liked sitting around drinking.

Now my husband doesn’t drink and neither do I. He’s been sober for about 30 years. I’ve been sober for about 3 months. lol

Yep,I’m sorta the black sheep of the family …..and I can’t give a reason why ….other than my parents … way of life …..that resulted in us being severely neglected / starved

just maybe be the fact I spent 3 years living with a uncle and aunt ( interstate ) from 3 ~ 6 years old they say your early years are the important ones :unsure: my aunt and uncle Didn’t drink or smoke …..Who knows if that was an early influence on me …

My uncle / me in Melbourne Victoria ( my aunt Dots husband , ) Aunt Dot was my mothers sister she died at 93
Another aunt Von also died at 93 …
I was 4 years old and they bought me a doll I called Norma ….the twins I mentioned broke it while I was at school
when I was 14 …

Why thank you @Pinky all children are precious

The photos originally had clothes lines full of washing in them and DH photoshopped that part out and made the photo frames for me ….at home we have a photo of DH the same age ( on a bike ) and the one of me in our family room

Those are adorable photos Kadee. How nice of your husband to photoshop them for you.
You’re a cute little girl.

Today we went for a 3 kilometre walk. It’s sunny with no clouds and 20 degrees.IMG_5900.jpegIMG_5901.jpegIMG_5899.jpeg
