Is piercing babies ears acceptable?

Not off topic at all. Simply a contrast between two cultural customs to put ear-piercing into a better perspective.
However, if indeed you still personally find my comments off-topic, or offensive in any way, despite my explanation, perhaps because you wear a lip plate, or someone in your family does, then please feel free to either report me to administration or to put me on ignore.

It doesn't rise nearly enough to get me upset enough to report it. I simply find such a post bizarre.

I find your peevish complaining about it extremely bizarre.
BTW If I don't respond to any of your further heckling it's because I have you on ignore and have chosen not to see what you are peevishly heckling and jeckling about. Make sense?

Now you are stretching even my abundant patience.
Do try to stay reasonably on topic.
You mentioned this once, twice is overkill.
I don't consider it off topic nor overkill.
BTW I am not seeking your patience nor intimidated by your impatience.

Makes absolute sense. Some are confident enough to defend their posts, and some are not. There is no obligation to respond to any post. Your post was strange, and I truly didn't think I'd need to explain why. Still, yes, makes sense.

I hope I have not posted about this before - my memory is quite bad these days!

I notice some babies and toddlers these days with studs in their little ears. It makes me feel a bit squeamish. I wouldn't want to inflict that on a little one, personally I think it is choice when they are old enough. It appears legal but I wouldn't want my grandchildren to have pierced ears while little.

Back when I was growing up I had mine done as a teenager and remember it as painful but it was my choice. I argued with my parents to let me before they relented! I had quite sore holes which got infected, itchy and crusty. Then I had to careful what metals to wear - although I was keen to start wearing pretty earrings.
I think it's common in certain cultures. I had mine done late, as an adult. I have some nice gold studded earrings, but I haven't worn them in decades. I don't care for jewelry and very rarely wore them. I assume the holes are still open, but not sure. I didn't have any pain or soreness, just the initial prick of the needle and it was over. Even people who had their ears pierced as babies, always have the option of not wearing any earrings, I don't see it as a big deal.

Ear Piercing: An Important Cultural Tradition

A lot of women with pierced ears told me that sleeping with the earrings in is really uncomfortable.
I assume babies have to wear them pretty much 24/7.

That's interesting,I've never heard anyone say that

I certainly dont find that myself either and I leave mine in continuously, very rarely take them out.

Anyone who gets them pierced needs to leave them in for about 6 weeks.

My GGDs have pierced ears. It’s not to my taste, but they’re not my children. I say nothing.

Back in the day, a potato was cut in half and a thick needle was heated with a burning match. There were a lot of young teens with infected ears. I’m glad I was too much of a coward to have it done.

On a tangent, we went to Screwfix the other day and three people were serving. What an incredible variety of piercings, massive ear holes, and tattoos they displayed between them. I wonder if they were competing. Not an inch of their visible bodies were left undecorated.
This is still a mystery to me as to why. Ah well, I am a grumpy old woman now. The world moves on without me.

Nice to know Screwfix hires the handicapped, though. ;)
