2024.....it can only get better.

Things all went smoothly in town, and the day was going fairly well....until we got about 1/4 mile away from getting home. That's when we rolled over "something". Neither of us saw anything in the road, but it was loud, and it did sound like glass. By the time we drove the 1/4 mile to our house, the tire was 100% flat.

We're having our dinner right now. Then, I guess, Dio is going to go out in the heat to see what needs to be done. I'm hoping that he can fix it. If not, we will have to replace the tire.

On a brighter note, while in town I (briefly) saw my old friend, Holly!! She pulled up next to us at a stoplight. She hollered out and waved to us, just as the light changed....she turned left and we went straight. Even in that short moment, it was great to see her laughing and smiling!!! I sure do miss her!

Unfortunately, the tire needs to be replaced. So yesterday, I tried calling the tire store that Dio uses, but the call wouldn't go through. Dio looked them up online, and the sight had a big red notice that said " location closed'. Now we have to call around to different places, to see if anyone has the size we need...hopefully at a decent price. I guess to it'll be another busy day of running around.

Yesterday did not turn out as expected. More about the tires....

First of all, it looks like the damage to the tire was caused by a bunch of broken bottles. Most likely, they were smashed in the intersection by some kids. We don't have any kids living in this area anymore (grown up and moved on), but in the summer we sometimes get bored teens from other areas.

Every day this week, our temps have been over 90°F/32.2°C, so it's really HOT!!! When we got the flat on Tue, Dio drove the car on the rim to get it up the driveway and into the barn. He took off the wheel with the flat, and worked out in that heat all afternoon, just to find out that (apparently) that a curved piece of glass from one of the bottles had sliced into the side wall...unfixable. Next he removed the other back tire (you're not supposed to replace just one), and loaded them into the back of his truck, to take to the tire dealer on Wed.

I've already post about how well things went in town on Wed. While at the tire place, Dio asked about replacing the other 2 tires, also (for even wear). He was told that they only had one matching tire at the moment, but more would be coming in early the next morning. So, when we got home, once again Dio was out in that heat. He put the two wheels with new tires on the back of the car. Then he took off the two front wheels and loaded them into the back of the truck.

Thursday morning, before leaving for town, Dio called the tire place. Guess what? His size tire was not on the delivery truck!
emoticon
Now he had to take those front wheels back out of the truck, before we could go to town....and, of course, it was already getting hot out.

We finally left for town, and as we were coming up to the turn onto the paved road (near where the broken bottles were), we passed 3 teenagers walking towards us. We only went about 1/4 of the way to town, when Dio turned around and came back home. We had never seen those kids before, and were very suspicious as to why they were there.

The kids were nowhere to be seen, so we took a break and had a cuppa. Dio then called the tire place again. They had 4 matching tires that were not the same as the two he had bought. They were willing to give him a full refund for the first tires, applied to the sale of the 4 tires. Ok....back into the hot barn to remount the wheels onto the front of the car. Then drive the car to the far side of town, and get 4 new tires.

Dio absolutely HATES having someone else work on his vehicles!! So once we got home (again!), he spent the rest of the day, back in the hot barn. He took each wheel off, checked that each one was mounted correctly and all of the lug nuts were tightened to the correct foot pounds of torque.

After 3 days of messing with this, it's finally done, and the car is ready for our dive to the roller rink tomorrow!

Dio sounds like a real DIY kinda guy. :)
Absolutely.....he's an Engineer!!

For those who are not familiar with this term:
An Engineer is not a job title (although it can be). When a person is an Engineer, it's a way of life. Engineers see things differently, and they think differently than other people.

(Shhhhh...you didn't hear this from me, but being around an Engineer takes some getting used to, and can be quite challenging at times! Best of all, it can be a lot of fun! 💗)

For the second time in a row, Dio did NOT need his torture treatment!! They ran his tests and prepped him, but the doctor came in and said that his test results were so good that he didn't need the procedure!

He will still need to be tested once a month. The doctor only does this procedure on Tuesdays....and they made his next appointment for a Wednesday!!!! We are really excited! His torture treatments might....just might, be over!!

Neither Dio nor I did well at the Dentist, yesterday. We were both feeling bad for the rest of the day. In my case, probably too much novocaine. It affected my vision, my balance, etc. I'm better today as long as I don't bend over too much.

Dio has the opposite problem...he is what I call "novocaine resistant". They ended up giving him 7 shots of novocaine! Almost his entire head was numb....except for his teeth! He finally told the Dentist to just do what he needed to, and Dio would let him know if the pain was too much to tolerate. This happens whenever he has a moler worked on.

While I was at the Dentist, I asked him to look at a spot that has been bothering me. It turns out that there is something wrong with one of my crowns! I think he called it an "open contact". I'm not sure what that means, but he said that it was a bad thing, and the crown needs to be replaced. That crown is only 2 years old! The Dentist is trying to see if I can get it replaced for free, but right now it doesn't look hopeful.

Anyway, today is a day to recover, so hopefully, we will be fine for skating tomorrow.

Yesterday, I went to see a foot doctor. I told the doctor what was bothering my foot, and he knew exactly what it was. He pressed on my foot and asked "is it here?"....and he had the exact spot. So, in his words: "good news, bad news".

I have a damaged joint in my toe (very common injury), that is swollen and causing the toe to be raised up higher than the other toes. This will not go away without surgery. But.....

Surgery is not actually needed if I can do things to minimize the pain. (actually, the pain isn't bad at all, I only went to the doctor to be sure that it didn't get any worse.). He taped the joint down, and he gave me a variety of inserts for my shoes. He said that I should try all kinds of combinations and find what works for me. So far, the insert that I thought would work the best actually hurt my foot even more.

There is another insert that might work well in my roller skate, so I'll try that. Otherwise, there are creams, laser treatments, shots, etc....all kinds of things that can be done to avoid surgery.

Right now, I have the joint taped down, and nothing else....it seems to be enough.

That is great news Trila! I'll make Dua (a special prayer) that those treatments are indeed over. 🤗

We just got home from the roller rink. We drive 80 miles (each way) to get there, and it takes 2 hours, again, each way.

We used to volunteer at the rink every Saturday and every Sunday, and usually 2-3 days during the week. We have been doing this for 17 years.

Last fall, we cut back to Saturday's only, and it has been enough. Today, Dio gave notice....we are quitting (completely) in the fall.

It's been fun, I truly enjoy what I do....the friendships I've made....the people I've met...and of course, the kids! Plus, I get to skate all I want. But after 17 years, the drive in bad weather has made things less fun.

It will be the end of an era!

Wow...that's an awful long drive to volunteer. You must've used a helluva lot of gas. But how nice that you volunteered your time in the first place. What a commitment!

I bought a STUPID book once, very promoted, called “The Worst is Over”. It was at a time when things in my life were really, super bad. Full of BS about what to say to others or yourself in a crisis to help you get through it.

**** this book and everyone associated with it. My life actually even GOT WORSE a few years after I read this. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/793596.The_Worst_Is_Over

So, that is my only advice to people now. The worst MIGHT be over, for now, but since it could get even worse than now, have Plan B, Plan C, Plan D and be prepared to live in your car at all times.

I think every copy of this book should be burned and I don’t say that about hardly any books. It’s full of pie-in-the-sky baloney.

To know life by factual data without emotional bias and faulty filters that clouds judgment and perception.
The facts include cause & effect, life and death, laws of attraction, karma, who you are, your family, friends and enemies.
you are not a random existence. you are the author of your life, surroundings and situations
There is free will by the factors we live and decisions made.

I'm back from the Dentist. I was really in a hurry to get this tooth taken care of. It should have been done last Tuesday, but my dentist had COVID.

Thursday night, the tooth hurt when I brushed it. It was a "zing" kind of feeling, something like hitting a nerve. Since then, it's been hard for me to brush that spot.

Today, the Dentist looked at it and found nothing wrong. Yet, it was very, VERY painful when he put the crown on!!! He asked if I wanted novocaine, and I said no....if it hurts bad enough for novocaine then there is something seriously wrong!!

Anyway, he said that there is a very good chance that, once the crown is in place and everything is sealed up it should (should??!!! should??!!!) stop hurting.

That's how we left it. The crown is on, and if it is still hurting by Thursday afternoon I should call for an appointment. In the meantime, it hurts enough that the tooth pain has spread into a headache, also. I've just taken some acetaminophen, now I wait and see what happens.

It's always something!

This blog is a place for me to post the high points and low points of things that happen to me during the year.

I've already posted this news on my "Fluff Butt" thread, but decided that I should also post it here......

Yesterday afternoon, Goober got into some poison.

The poison that he was in, destroys the liver, so it is slow acting. He may have a few days, or he may have a few years....there's no way to know. There is nothing that a Vet can do, we just have to wait.

For now, I'm going to continue to do what I can to ensure that he is a happy boy, doing the things that cats enjoy doing.

Wow! Where did the years go?!!!! It seems like it was just a few years ago that Dio and I tied the knot! Time sure does fly! And after all of these years, we haven't killed each other....YET!!
emoticon

We don't usually do much to celebrate our anniversary, maybe go out to eat, or go for a boat ride, or a walk....we keep it simple.

Yesterday, my Mom wanted me to take her to Wal-Mart. Dio surprised me when he decided to come along, too, since he and Mom don't always get along very well.

After shopping, we stopped for a pizza, and ate it at my Mom's house. Everyone got along, and we all had a good time. It was the best anniversary I could have asked for!! (the only thing missing was my Dad!)

I am so glad you had a good day!! :)

Yesterday, my Mom got treated to having a chauffeur to take her on her errands!
Image

I'm really glad that Dio came along to drive. He noticed something wrong with her tire and checked it out. It was almost flat! He filled it to the proper pressure and we were on our way! We'll check it again next time. If it's low again, then she has a slow leak and Dio will have it taken care of.

Here she is in Wal-Mart.....
Image

...always on the go, and always having fun! We sing and dance together as we go down the aisles! Dio is usually off somewhere else.

Dio had a procedure (minor surgery) to remove the "thing" on his head this morning, and everything is fine for now. His follow up appointment is in 4 months. However, depending on what Pathology finds in today's sample, he may have to go back sooner for a more though removal. (it's called a Mohs procedure) It will take a few weeks to get the results.

Dio said that the novocaine has completely worn off, and it hurts less now than it did before the removal.

All good things must end. After volunteering at the roller rink for 17 years, we have finally quit.

Were not going to stop skating, or helping out....we just aren't going to be on the schedule any more. This means that we will go when we want to, and don't have to make the long drive in bad weather (rain, snow, cold, etc). It also means that someone else will be working in the snack bar and I will be able to skate more.

It's a bit sad, but actually it's a good thing! 🛼
