And give us music lessons all day instead of a childhood. But I guess you can't miss something you never had, so they'll be fine.

Yea, a lot of them look like they have been schooled kinds seriously...that could cut into kids normal fun. But, a bunch of them are just hobbies the kids love, you tell. I think. :unsure:

Fun? Well, unfortunately, many kids in the USA consider normal fun to involve fighting in the school restrooms, classrooms and hallways, where skulls are stomped and some are crippled or killed. Other kids consider it lots of fun to film these fights with their I phones and to be cheering deliriously as the violence is going on.

No child should be deprived of childhood in the way you describe. Unfortunately, some parents might indeed take their efforts to have their child excel to extremes. Sometimes it isn't a parent but the child himself who does this as in the case of Bobby Fisher who deprived himself of a normal childhood when he dedicated himself fanatically to chess.

Very true. If the child looks like the activity is fun, then its hard to imagine that any harm is being inflicted.
 
I think that all kids reach a brief ‘sweet spot’ where they are susceptible to almost anything, good or bad.

The difficult thing is to recognize it and help them develop a particular interest before the time passes.

I didn't notice that. Even now that I examine the video I can't seem to find it. But it would not surprise me since editing is indeed employed to enhance videos.
 
Weird how people laugh at this smart kid I posted above simply because he is smart. Probably would get killed for being smart in certain USA schools.
 
Before it was just Reshevski Capablanca and Fisher who stood out. Now child prodigies are cropping up everywhere. Perhaps due to the availability of chess instructions on the Internet.

 
One of these math wizards kids said that he didn't even have to think. That the answers would automatically appear as if by magic in his mind.
 
There are extremely talented kids that can out do me any day of the week. If the kid wants to get better by intensive practice, go for it. But I think everybody know there can be a dark side of kids being forced to live their parents' dreams.
