I imagine that deer and cattle were the ones over1000 pounds,-right?Hundreds.... a few over 1000 lbs. Mostly for consumption.
Vermin? Yikes! I forgot to mention that I set traps and poisions for mice and that should be counted as well.As a country boy I've killed countless birds and animals. Some were domestic animals for food, some game for food, some were vermin and some were euthanized.
What, you've never had Elephant Stew? (if you feel the urge to yell at me for being off topic, I'm not... just answering your question!)I imagine that deer and cattle were the ones over1000 pounds,-right?
Never had it. Indian or African elephant? What, you've never had Elephant Stew? (if you feel the urge to yell at me for being off topic, I'm not... just answering your question!)
Elephant Stew
1 medium elephant
2 (50 gallon) containers broth
500 lbs assorted fresh vegetables, chopped
2 rabbits (optional)
Cut elephant into bite-size pieces. This takes about 2 months.
Using large kettles, simmer equal parts elephant and vegetables with enough broth to cover.
Cook for a couple days.
If more are expected add the rabbits, but do this only if necessary. Most people don't like to find hare in their stew.
God bless your soul! Far better than snickering.I accidentally rode over a frog with the lawnmower and I started sobbing hysterically over it. I was surprised it affected me that much.
Hard to avoid not murderalizing one of those.
Yeah! I forgot those when I mentioned only lizards. Now I am remembering that I also went fishing.Just mice in traps.
Sadly I'm a crap fisherman in both fresh and salt water.I used to go fishing quite often as a kid as well.
Did I understand you right? You went hunting but let the butcher do the killing?I used to hunt small game and deer. I only ate the deer. I gave my neighbors the rabbits and pheasants. Pheasants are few and far between where I live now. I think between the foxes and strays, they have been pretty much wiped out.
I still remember as a boy hearing the pheasants in the corn fields. They werenāt hard to locate. My neighbors looked forward to what I would bring home. I also shared my venison. Nothing was killed for pleasure and let lay. All the meat was used.
My dad and I used to help the local butcher to cut up the meat after we cut off the carcass. We didnāt do the killing. The butcher did that.
I never ate moose nor deer, so I have no idea about taste or texture differences. I imagine both are lean meat since both are wild and in good physical shape. Right? When I was younger I did a fair bit of hunting. Deer and moose as big game. I never got lucky enough to shoot a moose but shared in what our camp got. I like moose better than deer. Back in the day fox and coyote pelts were worth good money in the fur market. It declined badly some years ago but it sounds like the Chinese and Russian market is bringing prices up again.
Local farmers used to like to see us shooting ground hogs. Their holes are hard on livestock and equipment.

You mean crab, right?Sadly I'm a crap fisherman in both fresh and salt water.![]()
Hit some with car. This can't always be avoided when they suddenly dash out.
