Remember those monster movies with huge creatures posing a seemingly unstoppable deadly threat?

Tarantula was one of mine.

Then there was Rodan.

My favorites were Tarantula and King Kong except that l couldn't really enjoy King Kong because he was treated so unnecessarily mean. He was just hanging around peacefully on that island.

This was a very Unforgettable Giant Monster film!
The first US manned space flight from Venus crash lands in Sicily causing them to lose their precious cargo of reptilian eggs retrieved from the planet's surface. An Italian zoologist recovers the eggs and watches as one hatches into a rapidly-growing monster. The shocking giant lizard grows so enormous that it threatens the entire city of Rome. The zoologist's American granddaughter Marisa and returned astronaut Calder must battle with the American and Italian military to corral the creature before it destroys everything in its path.1957 Hollywood ClassicA.K.A. I love Godzilla movies so the big guy takes my #1 spot. But one movie about a giant monster that I enjoyed and thought was well done, though a bit campy, was Big Ass Spider. Full movie:

I saw the original King Kong and the remake as well. And decades ago there was Mighty Joe Young too.

Who can forget the classic "Giant Gila Monster" movie?

Where else can one learn the importance of "putting one's knee up" or enjoy the lilting cadences of "We Sing Whenever We sing?"

I prefer the MST3K treatment of this one for full satisfaction. Who can forget the visiting hungover big city DJ sprawled in the next room being serenaded as the musical mechanic pounds out the dents in his fender?

Yep, just hanging out, minding his own business, and munching on the occasional Sacrificial Virgin (they were running out of them, though, and there was going to be a serious supply-and-demand problem soon) and BAM! Hollywood shows up and puts a crimp in everything. Bah, humbug!

I used own this film. I always enjoyed it. It was one movie that a lot of people never heard of.
They were using stop gap animation at that time. Imagine all the work that went into making that creature look real. BTW Had they not been attacking it, it didn't seem intent on harming anyone. Even the elephant attacked it first.

This was one half of a double feature that was produced by Ken Curtis (Festus on Gunsmoke). The other movie was The Killer Shrews, in which Curtis co-starred in. I remember when it hit the theaters in 1959. The Gila monster in the movie was actually a live Mexican beaded lizard.

Killer Shrews was notorious for the boozing. MST3K hit that one also, and their host skits that episode got wacky:
