@Blessed Don't forget to fix a to-go plate for me ;)

The strangest thing...I went to the site that shows how much is available on the Healthy Food card I get from Kaiser to make sure that the quarterly amount was credited to my account yesterday. It was, but it has always been accepted at Walmart and Kroger, among a few other places.

Kroger isn't listed anymore. What? I called the number on the card and asked. Nope. Kroger won't accept it. Kaiser didn't quit Kroger, Kroger quit Kaiser. Is that strange or what? It's not like it's discounted. The stores that accept it get the full amount that's used against it.

It's still accepted at Walmart. I wish they'd add Aldi to the list.

DD is at the ER with DGD. They've been there since 3 this afternoon and DGD only just now got into a room. She had a doc appointment this afternoon, and doc sent her to ER. They're doing a CT to rule out liver/kidney problems. Oh...her RA is called seronegative RA, meaning blood tests won't show RA. Only 20 of 10,000 RA patients are seronegative. I'd never heard of it.

@Georgiagranny, no problem but remember I don't deliver, you will have to drive over.

I had the dinner menu tonight and I must say it was wonderful. There are times now when I cook it does not seem to be as good as it used to be. I am not good at many things and I felt like I was forgetting how to cook

Let's hope the breakfast menu comes up a winner.

p.s. I have vanilla ice cream to put on the cobbler!

A lovely afternoon yesterday, but V. cold overnight. Looks like being another lovely autumn day here once the sun gets full up.

We really enjoyed our tour of Fyvie castle, but then it was back to work. I fired up the lawnmower set the cut higher than usual and used it to gather and mulch the carpet of leaves on the garden. Mrs.L is clearing the garden path which was being overgrown with grass. I'm just despairing at the list of things she wants done.

Oh well, time to make brekkies. Porridge this morning made the traditional way - porridge oats, water and a pinch of salt.

Can't believe I got up 2:30 am to watch "Young & Restless" from yesterday On Demand, as CBS is still broken up on my cable line-up. Was worth it, watching it, I mean. Heather's body has been discovered. The ridiculous thing is the cops called her husband Daniel & told him over the phone. Real police would never do that, they would show up in person for such shocking news. Anyway, Sharon is really pissing me off by having no remorse, of course she is nuts, but it still bugs me that the only thing on her fragile mind is covering her own ass.

Today might even be better, hang on, I'll check the TV: Yes, thanks for holding on, today looks most exciting. I wonder when I can watch it. Set kindle up for CBS. com but the microphone is so low, I can't hear it, and in order to do so must either watch screen or listen with mic held to my ear. Most frustrating. On Demand for CBS is only working sporadically, luckily I was able to catch it.

If only this was the only problem in life.....

It's gonna be another nice day and still not so warm that the a/c will need to be on. Yay.

Nothing on the agenda today so far.

DD and DGD rolled in around 12:30. I was in bed at that hour so don't have any details. Today is DD's work-away-from-home day. I'd hoped she'd be willing to take me to the garden centers after work, but she'll probably only want to rest after yesterday's adventures. She did finish her remote work before they left yesterday and emailed it to herself so that she could proof it on her phone while waiting for DGD at the doc appt. Good thing, too, since she didn't know they'd be sitting in the ER for eight hours.

Up before the chickens this AM, figured out how to boil water for one cuppa tea with candles, and had devotions by flashlight.

You know, this experience has given me a new empathy for ppl who live in areas where there is war. I mean, even though I’ve seen the damage to houses/property and trees / downed power poles blocking pretty much all our roads for almost a week, it is still a wrench to the heart and mind every time I drive around.

I don’t know how people mentally and emotionally survived the Blitz, for example— basically what our area went through last week most nights and new devastation to have to look at every day. It is mentally and emotionally exhausting.

Well, on to a new day: it’ll be light enough to drive shortly and I need to go fill up my gas tank as o may have an admission in a distant county today.

On my early walk at 6:40 was a tad nippy 52 but refreshing as I walked a block to local store to buy Buffalo News for myself& my friend Connie
This morning I'll be taking my long walk of the day, back to old apt building{3 blocks from here} to drop off NYT&magazine for my friend, Mary.I'll continue the walk to my church which takes me 20 min, helping staff member with a project,
The rest of my day read NYT&local paper, hope to take another walk late afternoon before dinner

It's going to be a long road back. I hear many people say you just don't get the depth of destruction seeing it on television.

I agree with that. It's true of all disasters, I think. Even those who are living in the midst of it can't fully wrap their minds around the breadth of destruction.

At various times in her adult life, one of my sisters dealt with a fire, large earthquake and a huge storm that brought high winds and flooding. She says the flood was the worst. After cleaning up the obvious water damage, the mold shows its ugly head in every nook, cranny and whatever's underneath, and conquering it is nearly impossible.

@CinnamonSugar, My heart goes out to you and others who are dealing with the terrible aftermath of Helene.

It's a beautiful day, and I will be plenty busy!!!

First, the gym. After my workout, my Mom will meet me there and I will take her to her doctor's appointments, store, gas, etc. Then back to her house where I'll pay her bills and do whatever else is needed. I expect to be gone for the whole day.

Breakfast is done. It's time for me to get moving....have a great day!

The last time I checked in on you, you had fallen. I'm happy to see that things are going better for you! 🤗

Yesterday, DGD-in law here with the Baby. We had dinner and she said I always make chicken in such delicious ways, haha. I almost admitted it was a rotisserie chick from the store, deconstructed and reheated in the oven. But I didn't! 😏😯

She loved the dressing and ate a large portion. I was so pleased she enjoyed the meal. We mashed some squash for the baby.

I enjoyed that boy babbling and trying to talk, so funny! Until he got cranky 3 hours later so I sent them off with bunches of rosemary and basil cuttings from my pots, some roasted almonds I'd picked up for them at the store and 2 small Rubbermaid pyrex containers I never use.

Doggie Delight likes the baby and let him pat her back.

I think I'll go set out more unsalted peanuts for my squirrels now. Also feeling hungry.

Have fun today, everyone!

awww I'm so sorry you're going through this CS...

...but you're right, my grandparents lived through the Blitz, with 16 children... 9 who survived... houses being bombed all around them, no lighting some times.. , no food except what they'd grown because the street where the shops , butchers, and grocers, where their ration cards were registered had been bombed overnight.....they lived in a tenement so had nowehere to grow their own food as many other people did.. ....and of course tenements..whole rows of them were being bombed all around them. and they lost their friends and neighbours..

The horror and shock on a daily basis for them was something thank God, due to them and those who fought on our behalf , I've never experienced.. plus they had the worry of their family members fighting at the front.....the last for 5 years solid.. and the previous also for 5 years.. my grandparnets lived through both world wars

You know what?.. my grandparents never spoke a word of it to us.. never once... they were as stoical as just about all Brits were who lived through the wars and the Blitz...

All of that doesm't mean that what you're going through is lessened .. and it's still very upsetting for you and your neighbours to have to find a way to do things differently to how you're used to, but hopefully for just a short time.. 🧡

Semi sun today...59 degrees.. currently now at 5.0pm its gloriously sunny, and it's very warm in the back garden where I get all the sun depite in being only 59 deg ......earlier it was kind of overcast...

I've done very little today... made a few phone calls sent a couple of emails to important people.. and really not much else..

Gonna batch cook some minced beef.. in a little while, to make MInce, and veggies.. to get ready to portion up...for the freezer...

~Did some accounting for my son and myself; updated my budget spreadsheets.

~ Continued what I started yesterday… the dreaded chore of putting away items that had sat on the dresser and two tiered side table for way too long.
~I dusted and Swiffered the floors in the bedroom. Nothing like getting ready to go on vacation to make me get my a*s in gear and get things done!

~Rotated stock to make room for 4 agaves and made labels for the boxes I put them in. I have to do some creative thinking to be able to fit things in this apartment.
~ Going to start packing my suitcase as soon as I get off the computer. I have to add a couple more items to my food box, as well. My son said he’s taking our stuff out to the car earlier in the evening than I expected.

It's just after 12 noon here and this is the earliest I've ever posted about my day. So it's not too late for me to say ...

goodmorning.gif

Yes I thought about the wars when we were going thru the pandemic for 2 yrs and everyone complaining. I thought, but we’re not having to do this for 5-6 years like the folks that lived through WWII did…. I think they were just tougher then

I'm having a good day today. It's getting warm again which is always pleasant in October. I'll be making weekend plans soon. Well, Sunday because Saturday is supposed to rain heavily. I hope you all are having a good day too. :giggle:
