Every time I have called my local post office, it just rings & rings.

Is there a form I need to file ? The junk is getting out of hand. You'd think by now [not replying / contributing] that they would get the message ....... but it just keeps coming.

Have you ever heard of a data broker? Whenever you pay with a credit or debit card, or gain "points" with the stores' loyalty card, that spending information goes on your profile. That profile amasses huge data about your spending habits.

This trade in personal information is big business with the companies involved, ranging from vast multinationals to small firms. Some conduct straightforward activities, such as collating lists of names and contact details to sell. Others combine multiple sources of data to create rich intrusive profiles of individuals.

The free Mailing Preference Service (MPS) lets you opt out of unsolicited, personally addressed mail. The MPS, suggests that when you received unwanted catalogues, in the first instance, you should contact the business directly. You can write or email the business and ask them to remove your personal data from their records and any affiliates. Explain how it’s making you feel, receiving all this unsolicited mail.

If you register with the MPS they will do that for you. On their website there is a complaint section where they ask for you to scan or send in the mail you’ve received. Then their team will contact the organisation and give them 14 days to respond. When they speak to the organisation they make the point that it’s going to save them time and money, and reduce waste, if they only correspond with the people who want to receive the information. (This is only for the UK) Other countries have similar organisation.

The best way of all, of avoiding unsolicited junk mail through your letterbox, is to pay for your purchases in cash. It's anonymous.

Thank you, I prefer cash but, it is about impossible to do when buying on-line or by phone .

I get almost no mail.

I still get political ads, MedicareAdvantage enrollment ads and a few other odds and ends.

I did opt out a few years ago, before they began charging a $6.00 fee.

I wonder if it helps because I froze all three credit bureaus after a large data breach several years ago.

I also placed all of my monthly bills on automatic payment.

A few more options.

How To Stop Junk Mail

I do get more ads through email because of online purchases but it is easy to unsubscribe from most of those.

Good luck!

I went to the post office and opted out with the form they used back in the late 1970’s. Even doing that, every now and then, a piece or two slips by.

Every time I get junk mail now, I just rip it up and put in in the trash can.

I know it's frustrating to receive 4 or 6 bills a month, and 47 pieces of junk mail.
You can't leave town for a month without having to search out the Mail girl to
get your mail that would not fit in the Mail Slot at the house. It's frustrating I know.
That said no one sends personal letters to friends anymore. family get togethers
rely on Email and Messages. The USMail relies on Junk mail and deliveries to
survive. In 10 years most likely the US post Office will be gone. Only Deliveries from
Amazing will exist. Electronic mail will have won the day. No Cash will exist. The
US Treasury Broke, no printed money anymore, only the column in the email.

I noticed how difficult it is to tear up some of the junk mail. I have 16" super
scissors to handle that. Ya can't let em beat you!

I like to cram it all into their included return postage paid envelope and mail it back to them. Of course I do this after I tear off stuff with my name on it. It might be a little work but I get such a huge satisfaction from it. :sneaky:

I just toss it. On the plus side, the senders of this junk "donate" a lot of postage to the USPS, which helps keep the cost of postage stamps reasonable.
