Could WW 3 be around the corner?

WW 2 ended in 1945 with MILLIONS dead. Now I notice in the news wars are booming everywhere. Russia and China are engaging in joint maneuvers probably preparing for war with the USA. If we end up with a nuclear war, more will die than in all the wars of the entire world history!

By the way, Franklin Roosevelt was the US President during WW 2.

Finally, World War II was the deadliest military conflict in history. An estimated total of 70–85 million people perished, or about 3% of the estimated global population of 2.3 billion in 1940. Deaths directly caused by the war (including military and civilian fatalities) are estimated at 50–56 million, with an additional estimated 19–28 million deaths from war-related disease and famine.

Wars go on because we have not learned a damn thing from the misery of the past. They will go on until the Lord returns.
Never the less the thing that comforts me is this country. We are lazy, self involved and yet.....as the Japanese found out we are a sleeping tiger.
Never underestimate the United States. We will die for our right to be lazy and self involved. Call it independence if you will but God blesses our efforts to help the world. Who else steps in when a crisis or disaster happens. We do because it is our nature.
Be proud of this country and the people we call neighbors. We are different for sure but we lead with our hearts.

Thas some great B.S. Human nature proves a petty Despot will launce Sooner Than Later. Take it to a Bank and remote life is wise, Far South as possible. Only one person aboard the Soviet sub kept them from Launching In the 60's.

But you never know how many of those countries are holding onto shoddy bomb casings full of used pinball machine parts.
The U.S. economy is not just globally interconnected; as opposed to the Cold War era when the nation was relatively able to operate independently, it is heavily reliant on its chief rival and pacing threat. China is the top supplier of imported goods to the U.S.
produces 78 percent of rare earths imported by the U.S. and produces 10 times as much steel and more than 40 times as much
aluminum as the U.S. produces.

While manufacturing capacity for defense goods and manufacturing capacity large are not the same thing, manufacturing capacity and capabilities can still potentially be mobilized over time to fill defense manufacturing needs. However, defense systems are far more complex than they were 80 years ago.

I can't honestly foresee a circumstance where there would be an all-out WW3.
Russia, China, and the U.S. know that if a global war started it would be Armageddon very quickly-- what used to be called Mutual Assured Destruction (MAD). All parties would be quickly annihilated due to each of their tremendous stockpile of nuclear weapons. I believe the U.S. has twice as many nukes as anyone else, but all major cities would be destroyed in the U.S. and everywhere else. The heads of state of the major counties know that, and will never allow themselves to be drawn into a massive WW3.

If Trump gets in the Russia/Ukraine war will end quickly. I don't know how wide the warring will get in the Middle East, but no superpower will get directly involved. A global WW3 is not going to happen.

Actually, Russia has the most nuclear weapons: Which countries have nuclear weapons?.

I agree with your post, @ChiroDoc, but I worry about Putin and Kim Jong Un. They don't seem terribly stable to me. I don't have a lot of faith that they would follow the logic you described.

All countries have too much to lose but they need to beat their chest and growl. We need each other more than we are willing to admit. Neve the less we hear the threats and it is scary to be sure. Push come to shove, however, and it is a different picture.

It feels like we are slowly being drawn in to the conflict in the Middle East, I hope that our leaders have the sense to stay above the fray.
Slowly drawn into it?
It appears that we're rapidly getting there.
I'm curious which leaders you are referring to, the executive or the 'grey people' who control us from the shadows?

Having warheads and having a reliable delivery system, can be two different issues. The presumption being made that all of the U.S. adversaries would unite in using those weapons. However, several of those countries don't really like each other. Can you imagine China emptying their stockpile, with India next door? Would India... with China and Pakistan next door?

As for Russia, even with their large stockpile would likely be hesitant, as while it may be large... its population is west of the Urals.

The WWIII angst, seems to stem from some Israeli attack on Iran, which would drag in their "allies". Their "allies" only seem that way, as a Iran is poking the nose of the west, especially the U.S.

If Israel were to attack Iran, would it be the nuclear sites, or the petroleum infrastructure? The Saudis would prefer the nuclear sites, as the petroleum infrastructure might provoke a retaliation against Saudi petroleum infrastructure. There are a lot of things involved, before we would get anywhere near a WW3 scenario, imho.

It doesn't help much that we have so many tub-thumping right along, cheering on their support of aggression in Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, ... and it's hard to keep track of where else.
