Caught in Algorithmic Nightmares

Good grief. I made the mistake of watching a video on Youtube of Kiss, the rock band. I also watched one about life after death. After that, the algorythm has taken over, and I'm beginning to drown in Kiss and life after death videos. There's no end to it. :D

What a mistake! It's at a point when I have to think twice about what I search for, because I know I'm going to be pushed things I don't care for. Hell, I think I'm pretty self aware, yet here I am! We're in a simulation. Aliens are future humans coming back to warn us. Life after death is good, it's just the here and now that sucks. Sheesh. :D
 

I have an extension for the browser Firefox called BlockTube. With this I can ban complete YouTube channels or vidoes.

Best to shut off your YouTube and go out for a nice, healthy walk. Works miracles!

When that happens, right-click on one of those videos and a menu pops up. Click on Don't Recommend. That will stop most of them. You can also adjust "preferences" on your YouTube account, if you have one.
 
Or, if you have a YT account, remove the videos you watched from your history.

  1. Click the "hamburger icon" in the top left corner of your browser
    1_ClickHamburgerIcon.jpg

  2. Select "History"
    2_GoToHistory.jpg

  3. Either clear your entire history, or remove specific items from the list of watched videos.

It also helps to stop watching videos you don't care about. It doesn't take long for things to adjust and de-emphasize those unwanted topics.
 
I like YouTube. I've found channels there I really like because the channels and videos came up on my front page and the side bar. The thing is, not to click on all the click bait.

My internet loading page, is so full of click bait it's pathetic. More pathetic, I've clicked on some. But then I realized, it's dumb and I now ignore.

Thanks for this. I needed help. :D There's only so much Gene Simmons one can take. :D

I have blocked many channels, but that's on a one-by-one basis, and it's not like I never want to watch a Kiss video, I just don't want to be drowning in them. :D

Right now I'm being inundated with ads for men's sexy underwear. I've never looked for men's sexy underwear. I'm not even interested in men's sexy underwear. I know I've never MENTIONED men's sexy underwear around the house, because the Spousal Equivalent would have been laughing his head off. I'm not sure I've ever even THOUGHT about men's sexy underwear, assuming that the internet can read my mind.

So what's with that?

I'm a guy. There is no such thing as men's sexy underwear.
