Will today be the day I complete a crossword in it's entirety?

Good Luck, you deserve it.

Reminds me of a time my wife and I were doing a NY Times puzzle, it was from a compilation book. We had done the upper left quadrant and thought it was going well, then we hit a stumbling block. All the answers and perpendiculars worked and fit , but we just couldn't crack this one clue. After much consideration she finally looked to see what the answer to that one was only to discover that the entire part of the puzzle we'd filled in was wrong.

This always seemed like it should be more interesting to me than it is.

I found out many people cheated and did them using dictionaries, and now by doing web searches.

Those who do them without aids should be applauded. I just have other things to do like read books to accumulate new information, but that's my choice.

I do the medium level ones online. If I get a letter wrong it turns red so I know. Then I try another word, if nothing works I start going through alphabet. I still can't complete about 25% of them. :)

Good luck!

162 clues(40%) done of a 406 clue Crossword Puzzle done. No mistakes, no misses.
After 20 plus years of doing these large puzzles and never having completed one without errors or omissions...
We will find out tomorrow
Was not to be 12 unknowns and 3 spelling mistakes.
Maybe one day I will succeed.

I used to ride the commuter train into NYC. You form habits and ride the same train and same car every day. There was a man on the train who did the NY Times crossword puzzle at breakneck speed. I was envious of his smarts.

One day I noticed he had left the paper on his seat when we pulled into the station. I looked at the puzzle he had completed. It was all gibberish; he had filled in all the spaces with random letters.

I have no moral to this story, but I was, as they say, gobsmacked.

I've had an off-and-on subscription to Dell crosswords (Easy, Medium, Hard, Expert). Most of the time - 95% or so - I have no trouble with the Mediums. I don't bother with the Easy puzzles. The Hard puzzles are, for me at least, much more difficult than the Expert puzzles. And I'd like to know which puzzle writer has this godawful sense of what a clue/synonym is. Completely alien. The clues that end in a question mark are annoying. If I wanted a joke, I'd hire a stand-up comic.

Hmph.
