I don't like large cities

I was in Munich from Friday afternoon to Saturday noon with my wife.

I've never liked large cities, but this time the traffic, the masses of people and the noise, especially in a restaurant we were dining on Friday afternoon, was too much.

I need the countryside, the wide views over meadows and forests, the fresh air and only few people.

What about you?

I like the energy of big cities for a long weekend and I like the solitude of a cabin on a quiet lake for a week or two.

At this point in my life living in a small city is the best option for me.

I am so used to living in the forest after 40 years, I would be lost in the big cities. But, there could be some circumstance that could cause me to move to an apartment at some point. Never know what's around the bend.

I grew up in urban areas, and have always wanted to live in the country. I hope that this dream can some day come true. I find that I get weary of constant sirens, booming car stereos and traffic sounds, and I crave the sounds of nature.

Same. I like visiting large cities occasionally but would never want to live in one.

I'm with @George1959. During my working life I had to spend quite a bit of time in big cities. "Happiness" was feeling that big silver bird climbing out of Chicago or New York or LAX or SFO or DFW or . . . .

For me, the biggest plus for large cities is that, because of them, all of those millions of people don't live here.

I was born and raised in the city... I love the city..I love the anonymity of it....

However I've lived in the countryside now for 50 years... . I go into the city occasionally, and it reinvigourates me..I'm on a high for a couple of days...but in all honesty these days when I come back to the countryside, it's like I've come into the peace of another world.. and I exhale

I'd love to live back in the city.. but the crime scares me...

I, now, live in the sticks, but I lived in NYC. I loved it, there. There's just so much stuff you can do for free. I never thought I'd love Broadway musicals, but there's something about a live orchestra, and real people on stage that can make you believe anything. I left NYC, when NYC went bankrupt. They were laying off thousands. If I got laid off, I would have starved.

The city is about a twenty minute drive away. The neighborhood is quiet and peaceful with hills and trees. I know this could change at any time. The house next door has been vacant for months while being renovated. It will be interesting to see if it is sold or rented out.

I loathe cities. I would go back to the 1940's deep woods logging camp of my youth in a second were that possible. Back then, city people stayed in their cities and left us alone. Did I mention that I hate cities?

I have spent so much time in big cities. New York City, Los Angeles, London. Smaller cities like Syracuse and Jersey City. When I was younger I loved it. Especially New York City and London. Since 1994, I have been living in a small town. It suits me now. I'll never go back to big cities at my age. I think older people are better off in small towns. Much safer.

This is what its like here. London is only 20 miles from here yet I'm in the deep countryside....so it's not difficult to go into the city and out again without much trouble... only it's difficult to drive in. If I drove North, east or west 20 miles it would take me 20 minutes, if I drive south to London 20 miles it could take me 3 hours depending on the traffic and time of day... so despite it being so close I have to always get the train innto the city unless I;m going into the outer edges , and then I drive... and of course the train takes about an hour due to having to change onto tubes etc...

Yes! I hate most big cities too. All the crime, traffic, violence, drugs and very loud noise. It's sad that most people live in these cesspools. No wonder we keep having wars!

Big cities are fun to visit. I don’t think I could live in one anymore. The traffic is what drives me crazy and I’m not the driver.

I prefer the city. Always have, always will. I love the diversity of the people, the variety of activities and scenery, and appreciate the conveniences.

My spouse would be dead or a vegetable if I hadn't been able to get him to the ER in less than 12 minutes, when he suffered a haemorrhagic stroke.

If you can't find peace within yourself, wherever you are...you will never find it anywhere for long.

Big cities are for the young and ambitious who work hard (or not) and enjoy occasional (or frequent) evenings out to dine and drink and dance and/or unwind.

I've lived 2 big cities, but never felt like it was a good fit for me I feel very much at home and plenty relaxed in small towns, especially ones in the mountains.

I agree about San Francisco.

I like the city. As close in as I can get to the centre. I lived in the country for a relatively short period. On weekends I would head back to the city again.

I used to love the cities, I go so seldom now... all the familiar stores and streets have changed and the traffic is beyond crazy so I'll just hang out here in the country and keep ordering from Amazon.

Here in our cities you don't have to have a car, because the public transport is so available..In fact it's better not to have a car in the city due to the ULez charge and the very high parking charges wherever you go...
