I find it grating too. But to really get under my skin you have to get so absorbed in your cell phone ahead of me at a stop light that you don’t move when it turns green.
 
Should add that when our business had a retail component, if a customer was talking on the phone when he/she came up to the checkstand we and our employees would politely say, "I'll be happy to wait on you when you've completed your call." Then we'd look past him or her and say, "Next in line?"

Nine times out of ten, they'd say, "Gotta go" to the person on the phone, then hang up and focus on the business at hand. Showed how important that call really was - and most often, wasn't.
 
Hmmm. In all seriousness, the "vocal fry" thing seems to be a result of too much pot smoking. Or ANY pot smoking. That's what I'm going with, anyway.

Burglarized....that is my pet hate....:ROFLMAO: everytime i hear it, I'm shouting..it's 'burgled''... but I even saw an American judge use Burglarized, so I gave up....
 
I saw a video on Netflix yesterday that had two young girls in it. One of them was definitely using uptalk, complete with the raised inflection at the end of the sentence and the semi-raspy voice.

I never would have known about "uptalk" until I read this thread. Now I'm scarred for life. :sick:
 
Not much irritates me but, I knew a lady who used to say "like" after every couple of words. "It's sunny like, very hot like, hope it snows like soon like ...".

It was a shame like, as she was a nice person like but, having a conversation like with her like was impossible like :cool::)
