Menendez brothers latest: LA district attorney recommends resentencing

Resentencing would open the possibility of parole, where 30 years ago their sentence did not include this possibility.

The brothers shot their mother and father to death while the couple watched TV. Afterwards, the brothers went on a wild spending spree with the wealth their father, Jose' Menendez had accrued.

The brother's defense was that they were brutally, sexually abused for years by their father while the mother did nothing. The DA now feels that back in the 90's people couldn't accept or believe a father could do such a thing and it came out recently that the father also abused a male member of the Puerto Rican band "Menudo". He was in the entertainment business.

I've been seeing a lot of clips of their statements on the kinds of abuse their father subjected them to and it's really shocking what happened to them. Also statements made by the family members on what the mother and father were like as parents and I've come around. I watched the Netflix series and was kind of thinking the boys deserved to go to jail forever, but after seeing these additional interviews and from the Menudo singer....I'm not surprised they did what they did. Maybe more amazed that they didn't do it sooner.

They may be resentenced to time served and so would be released. Their father sounded like a horror and their mother was complicit. Her own sister spoke out against her. Many family members are now weighing in on this case and offering their support for the brothers. How awful it must have been to have been subject to sexual assault in your own home.

I watched the whole press coference on tv earlier today... I hope that the judge tomorrow agrees that these ''boys' as we all think of them, but in fact now in their late 50's and early 60's... get another trial... and are ultimately freed...

Apparently in prison they have been model prisoners who have both gone out of their way to help others. they didn't have to do this, they could have joined the prison bad population, they had nothing to lose , they believed they were in prison for the rest of their lives..

if it's agreed they can be re-tried, it would mean they have served enough of their original sentence to now be freed..

Lyle and Erik now...

I was very distracted back then during the trial but even so, no one could get away from it; such a huge case. Altho' I was aware, I missed lots of details. What stood out for me then, was the spending spree they went on and I think that spree turned the jury against them.

Now, I'm thinking maybe it really was self defense. Their family are all behind them.

I think the spending spree was probably a reaction to the sudden sense of freedom for two teenagers who no longer had to fear the horror of their father's demands. Without understanding the abuses, that spending spree did look awful and made it seem that 'the inheritance' was the motive and probably influenced the jurors a lot more than it really should have.

Is there any evidence at all that this abuse [by the father] actually took place ? Any evidence of the assault on the third accuser ? Or is this yet another [extreme] case of being tried [the father] by accusation alone ?

When they went on this spending spree, how did they access the fathers money ? Was it all done in cash ? Or did they have access by various means , all along ?

I'm just not so quick to forgive these two guys.

I posted this about the case earlier in the month. To me, the fact that relatives from both sides, even their aunt (mother's sister) is asking for them to be freed speaks volumes. The aunt spoke of the horrible abuse they suffered and that they were not protected by their mother nor the justice system. Their mother probably didn't protect them because she didn't want to give up her lifestyle. If I found out a man was abusing my child(ren), I'd off him myself or mess him up so bad before I called the police, he'd wish he was dead! I hope they are freed.
Should The Menendez Brothers Be Set Free?

If the brothers were girls and were raped, does that give then the right to blow out the brains of their rapist????
So, why does getting sexually abused by their dad, give them the right to splatter dad's brains all over the place?
I guess being heirs to dad's bank account eased their childhood trauma.

I was going to as well but, I just stopped Netflix due to their constant rising cost. Their seven dollar p/month service went to twenty four dollars p/month .... I decided no ! enough is enough.
What! We pay about £8 a month I think. We must check that.

You know Diva I had such trouble justifying the brothers shooting their mom back in the ninties. All I could think of was she knew she married and brute and she enjoyed a millionaire's Beverly Hills lifestyle which she wouldn't give up even to save her sons. She was complicit. Then everything made sense.

The other part of this was said that the brothers were afraid they would be killed if they squealed or left. So, they claimed that threat to their lives as the reason for the self-defense defense in court.

Self defense ? The parents were sitting on the couch watching TV.
