Do people who smoke cigarettes know they stink of those cigarettes?

A few people still smoke in my community. They smoke only outside their home. They are not allowed to smoke in our common areas (including the outdoor areas).
It seems that the odor stays there forever even outside.
In Florida, the smell of cigarettes combined with the heat and perspiration on people is pretty strong and by no means pleasant.
 
I used to laugh about that when I thought back to smoking as a youngster, no way that my parents couldn’t have known.

I quit smoking over 15 years ago and still miss it at times.

I have no problem with people who still smoke and feel that the current taxes and strict no smoking regulations are of little help in encouraging people to stop smoking.
 
I quit in 1979 after having smoked about a pack a day for 6-7 years. Never knew how bad the stink was until several years after I quit.

In my effort to quit, I smoked a pipe (without inhaling) for 2-3 months. Dealing with a pipe is a PITA, so it gradually became more trouble than it was worth. That technique worked for me -- I never returned to smoking. Never used a patch, though I think that treatment option was in its infancy.
 
I think they realize they smell but don't understand (or care) how the smell trespasses into the world around them. I think that's proven by how a smoker will chew on a breath mint and think no one will know they've been smoking, or think a blast of perfume will hide the cigarette smell.
 
It reminds me of unity and freedom. It reminds me of a time when we weren't told what we should and should not do or risk being shunned by others all day everyday.

Nobody minded cigs because everybody smoked. We were all the same.

I have good memories of those days. I was happier. Maybe many others were happier too? Less stressed for sure. :unsure:

ooooh I hate that smell..I mentioned this a little while ago on here.. I really, really believe that the smell of weed is much sronger than the smell of tobacco..it's absolutely disgusting.

I was in the supermarket recently and there was only one other well dressed woman in the aisle that I walked down, and I was nearly knocked over by the smell of weed coming from her.. absolutely repulsive... :sick::sick:
 
I knew it before I quit, but it became much more obvious to me after I quit. Somewhere along the line I read that in a fairly short time our olfactory system adjusts to smells, be they enjoyable or offensive, and you don't notice a particular smell as strongly after you have been exposed to it for awhile. This information was born out by my own experience. I'll bet everyone of us has experienced it.
 
I hate it when somebody's smoking outside near a doorway and I have to walk through their stench. Or when I'm in a public place and somebody lights up.

When we were in D.C. a few weeks ago, my wife and I were sitting outside near a fountain, enjoying a lunch from one of the street food vendors. I was eating a delicious lamb shawarma and savoring the flavor. And wouldn't you know it, some people about 10 feet away decide to light up. It completely ruined the experience. Inconsiderate bastards.

When that kind of thing happens, it makes me want to go over and fart in their faces.
