Do people who smoke cigarettes know they stink of those cigarettes?

It reminds me of unity and freedom. It reminds me of a time when we weren't told what we should and should not do or risk being shunned by others all day everyday.

Nobody minded cigs because everybody smoked. We were all the same.

I have good memories of those days. I was happier. Maybe many others were happier too? Less stressed for sure.
I admire people that understand the risks, live their lives, and accept the consequences of their choices.

"Some people are here for a good time, not a long time.”

I hate it when somebody's smoking outside near a doorway and I have to walk through their stench. Or when I'm in a public place and somebody lights up.

When we were in D.C. a few weeks ago, my wife and I were sitting outside near a fountain, enjoying a lunch from one of the street food vendors. I was eating a delicious lamb shawarma and savoring the flavor. And wouldn't you know it, some people about 10 feet away decide to light up. It completely ruined the experience. Inconsiderate bastards.

When that kind of thing happens, it makes me want to go over and fart in their faces.
We've come a long way. When you consider how prevalent ash trays were (installed as a part of standard equipment in motor vehicles, along with the requisite cigarette lighters), and in restaurants, smokers have been by and large ousted from society. There are a few diehards, but there are fewer and fewer every year -- through death or being ostracized. Except, I think, in China. Last time I read up on this, Chinese men were smoking like chimneys.

Not sure about all of this in the U.K. and in Australia.

Think the smoking hand gets a lot of Nicotine exposure. That may contaminate clean / clear surfaces ? Door handles, shopping carts, silverware. Poker hands & Craps. That sort of stuff.

Think public smoking just changed to private legalized Pot parties. Family get togethers, that sort of stuff. Outside behind the garage etc. Win / Win for state Taxes.

I confess I don't understand the cannibis craze. Last time I did any of that mess was in the early 1980s. Haven't touched it since, and have no plans to indulge further. In my mind, it's illegal -- regardless of state law and especially since I have a CCW. Nope. Ain't gonna happen.

Think most just relax and ease the pain. I realized I didn’t like the smoke as a teenager. Never
did much Mary Jane. Feel no pain for those who do. It’s their choice if it is legal.

As a vice president / Judge once said, “with the stroke of my pen I will ruin your life!“
That sort of thing.

Nicotine drives people crazy, well thats a thought about that1

I remember there was a prominent anti-smoker back in the 1st half of the 20th Century. I think he was pretty authoritarian about most things. Wasn't he also known for vegetarianism? I believe they had a UBI going too.

What was his name again?

Strongly dislike being in rooms with others that have recently cigarette smoked. A disgusting smell. Would never consider dating any female recent nicotine smoker. At our senior ages, we are regularly noticing many peers that have smoked decades becoming the first with a list of diseases and worst wrinkled facial skin aging.

here in the UK..I believe the popualtion of smokers stand at approx 12 % of 18 years and over..apparently the lowest in15 years...

There's a lot of Vapers... ..I see people smoking and vaping, and usually where I see them are in places where the majority of people live in lower income neighbourhoods...

This seems to be a college-age thing here. I'm not seeing anyone else doing it. Maybe I don't get out enough.

I switched from smoking to vaping a couple of years ago, and honestly, I hadn't realized how strong the cigarette smell really was until after I stopped. At first, I thought spritzing a little perfume or gum would work, but it doesn’t really hide it. The odor is just stuck in your clothes and hair. Now, when I'm around cigarette smoke, I notice it right away and it kind of grosses me out, which is funny because it never bothered me before.

Welcome to seniorsforum
Really strange how they do not smell it.
Clothes reek so strong, quite sickening.

They don't smell it because the same stench is going into their mouths and noses all day long every day so people who smoke become immune to the smell themselves until they quit for awhile. That was me before I quit. After quitting I remember smelling smoke on someone who'd just finished one and walked by me. I couldn't believe how bad they smelled to me! Then I was embarrassed thinking that was ME for years & years

Ive never smoked but Mom did. I can remember lighting her cigarettes for her in the car.
In the front seat. No seat belt. Car full of cigarette smoke. Its a wonder I survived.
Although I do have asthma. So theres that.

Youre right about the smell. It clings. I can remember in the old days after a night out my hair smelled awful.
Used to tick me off. I just washed it and now it stinks and I have to wash it again. PITA when you have long hair.

Back when my workplace went nonsmoking the smokers would take frequent smoke breaks outside.
Us nonsmokers were kept to the regular breaks. My friend and I bummed a few and said we were smokers
so we could have extra breaks too. :D

And remember non smoking sections in restaurants. I always thought that was like a no peeing section in the pool. :D

One reason I never smoked is that we were poor and Im frugal. To me it was like burning money.
Now its even worse. It baffles me that poor people smoke. Shoes for your kid vs two packs of cigarettes.
I guess its not an obvious choice for some.

I am aware of how cigarettes smoke smells. I smoke a bit but I lean out my window to take a few puffs.

I did laundry the other day and had smoked in the living room and when I came back to my apt I could smell it. I can't stand the smell of it. I lit up some strong incense and it took the smell away. I don't usually smoke in my living room but had.

I have been trying to quit over and over but the best I've done is cut down. I have had long periods of not smoking -17 years! It's just very hard now to quit. Don't ask me why I started again because all I know is I get stressed out and pick one up.

One day I will quit for good hopefully and I hope it's before I die😄

When my daughter was struggling to give up smoking cigarettes I could always tell if she hadn't succeeded on the day she stopped by. No aroma coming from her, or not? I'd let her know which. I think that's how she woke up to the fact that its smell gets in all her clothing and hair. I think this helped her quit.

It's not a disease. The hand of a smoker is no more a contaminate than your germy hand that's been who knows where. Nicotine is not a poison unless you took a huge dose of it, in fact it can be useful to some brains as a stimulant and a help in focusing. Not only does it not "drive people crazy," it is helpful and soothing to many people with mental illness.

It is the tars in the tobacco that give people cancer, not the nicotine.

It's been 30 years since I've had a cigarette, but it still bothers me when people go overboard about other people smoking. I used to sit in designated smoking sections and have smirking strangers walk over and tell me smoking was bad for me.

I heard a woman at church say, "The only good thing about smokers is they die young." I felt like saying the only good thing about sugar is it gives women like you diabetes.

It's a bad health habit, period. It is not a sin. It can cause cancer, but if someone chooses to do it, in their own home or back porch, then that's their business. Unless you want me to follow you around and tell you to put your seat belt on, don't eat those sweets, watch out for the mercury in that tuna sandwich, floss every night, sit back from the screen, do your exercises, count your calories, watch your protein, don't eat too much iron, put that glass of milk down it's cow mucus! You are so disgusting.

One of the dumbest things I saw as a 16 year old, was when I was riding in a friend's truck, it was an early 70s F100 truck. This goof decided to empty his ashtray out the window, while driving down the road at 50 mph. I knew this wasn't going to end well, and man was I right... the cig butts and ashes were floating around in the cab like stuff flew around in Space on moon trips... it was stupid, gross, messy and downright ignorant.

I usually saw humor in his pranks, but this one I didn't find amusing at all. He was laughing his head off, I wasn't. When he went to vacuum it out, I didn't help. I went and got a cold beverage. And the restroom, to brush all the ashes off.
