Fire in Centrailia Pennsylvania Still burning since 1962

I've gone through Centralia more than once... and even decades ago, it was creepy because you could see wisps of smoke coming out from beside the road. These signs weren't there yet "back then." Last time I saw it was right before it was abandoned.

Supposedly, the fire may last another 200-300 years. I still am not sure how the fire gets air to burn. Yeah, it originally burnt around old mine shafts & levels, but now the fire is burning on deep underground veins.
More than likely it's an anthracite coal vein. Anthracite is a really hard coal that burns to a white ash. Leaving a trail of open space for air to come in while as the video shows smoke exiting from various places.
Sure was funny driving thru there in the winter after a snow storm. Snow all around but not where the fire is traveling.

Stopped close to there once for breakfast, then took a ride over to the town itself, but each way in was barricaded . And the waitress at the coffeeshop mentioned that they were serious about keeping folks out anyway.

So, didn't get to see much, just a-bit of smoke. Probably nothing to see anyway.
