......and harassers will face unlimited fines.

The new legislation will ban protests, including silent prayer, within a 150-metre zone of a clinic or hospital offering abortion services.

The former Conservative government told police that silent prayer should be allowed inside the new 'safe access zones'.

But now new guidance states people within the zones will be banned from trying to influence any woman's decision to have an abortion, stop them from entering, harass them or cause distress.

The ban includes trying to hand out abortion leaflets, protesting against abortion rights, or shouting at people trying to enter a clinic.

Anyone found guilty of breaking the new laws could be hit with an unlimited fine, with police to determine whether the actions meet the threshold for prosecution.

Jess Phillips, the Home Office minister responsible for safeguarding, said: 'The idea that any woman is made to feel unsafe or harassed for accessing health services, including abortion clinics is sickening. This stops today.'

Fantastic! :)

Many US state and city governments started implementing those safety zone laws and ordinances back in 2019 or 20, and some of them made it a jail-able offense. It only took a few arrests to convince protesters to either stick to a random intersection or stay home.
Too little, too late. Obviously.

Rape and incest account for hardly any abortions. So why are they now a focus?

Just 1% of women obtain an abortion because they became pregnant through rape, and less than 0.5% do so because of incest, according to the Guttmacher Institute. Yet the battle over exceptions for both has garnered outsized attention in the national abortion debate.

So the issue is almost entirely one of promiscuity without responsibility.

what about birth control failure..... ?

At various times some of the following have been allowed in some societies:

  • abortion for the sake of the mother's health
    • including her mental health
  • abortion where a pregnancy is the result of a crime
    • such as crimes like rape, incest, or child abuse
  • abortion where the child of the pregnancy would have an ' unacceptable quality of life' such as cases where the child would have
    • serious physical handicaps,
    • serious genetic problems,
    • serious mental defects
  • abortion for social reasons, including:
    • poverty,
    • mother unable to cope with a child (or another child),
    • mother being too young to cope with a child
  • abortion as a matter of government policy
    • as a way of regulating population size
    • as a way of regulating groups within a population
    • as a way of improving the population
Most opponents of abortion agree that abortion for the sake of the mother's health can be morally acceptable if there is a real risk of serious damage to the mother.

Abortion for social reasons is usually least acceptable to opponents.

Since Roe was overturned 65,000 women became pregnant because they were raped. It’s despicable that they are forced to have their rapist’s babies. Some men just hate women and others just want to control them. You can tell who they are by listening to them talk or reading what they write. Britain is doing the right thing.

We all know that rape is under reported - it is certainly possible that given reasons for termination are more than the one selected i n a survey.

But doesn't matter - safe and legal terminations should be available to anyone, regardless of their given reason

There have been laws in Australia similar to this one being introduced in Britain for some time now - good thing too.

I know a young woman and her husband who wanted to have a baby, so she became pregnant, unfortunately about 3 or 4 months the drs discovered her amniotic fluid surrounding the baby was acting like acid and was eating the flesh and causing much pain to the baby. The parents were devastated and were advised to abort the baby they wanted so badly. They get to the clinic and there was a crowd outside screaming her, they were yelling"Oh mother don't kill your baby", she had to run the gauntlet ! Years later as her father was dying, she asked her father to find his grandchild. That baby was never forgotten. Her father by the way was my uncle, more like my brother.

Let the lady do what she feels she needs to do. It's her Body, she owns it!
I can't accept the argument that she need go thru hell and then give it up
for adoption by a gay couple. Let's let the gay couple go thru the hell of childbirth.

What a heartbreaking story. I hope they were able to have more children. Stories like this are why women need to be able to make their own decisions about their own bodies.

Is there a credible source for those statistics?
If I recall correctly there was a recent thread about historical anecdotes about invasion, kidnapping and rape. I later thought maybe we're all descendants of rapists. 👍

It was on the national news and I believe it’s either the Lester Holt or Nora O’Donnell show since I watch both every night.

The baby they lost was a boy, fortunately they went on to have 2 daughters. Those girls by the way are beautiful young women and have been loved by the whole family.
