How is your day Today, plans and achievements 2024....

Got out and started mulching piles of leaves raked up before dusk last night. Thankfully the wind hadn't undone all my effort.

Two little girls came running down the sidewalk up to me. Maybe 3 and 4 years old? They chattered on and on and pointed back "Our Grandma is coming."

In a bit they moved on ahead, and then an older and younger lady (probably Grandma and Ma) plus a littler boy (maybe 18 to 20 months, but walking very well) came along. Light chitchat about leaves and strong winds, then they moved on. Little guy kept turning back and staring intently. The boy was stoic, and didn't say a word.

The Mom crouched down with him and used her phone to snap some pictures. I think she wanted to get him with my yellow leaves piled high in his background. Then she moved to get me into the shot as well, maybe 20 feet off.

I think it's a combination of a Sunday visit, somewhat warmer weather today and sun, all of the leaves down now, and the rain that's coming later. Still bright right now but overcast already. I hope I can get another load of leaves mulched and packed first.

Maybe kids were just excited. Or juiced on leftover Halloween candy? I hope it wasn't me. The recent "beard thread" here has led me to let mine grow to see how it looks these days. I think I have 2 weeks of it, so good coverage but under half an inch. But wow, it isn't "Santa white" but it sure is a light, light gray!

And to think the hair on my head used to be "black coffee brown" - but even that has lost its color. Still much darker than this beard hair, but definitely a shade of gray in full sunlight.

Y'know sometimes I worry myself over my sanity. Really painful back today.. but I still can't stop myself from doing stuff. Believe it or not, I;ve just vacc'd all downstairs .. .. I emptied both vaccum cleaners in the outside bin.. then I went to the barn to turn off the dehumidifier, and saw the lawn edger.. and my lawn is desperate to be edged... and lunatic that I clearly am.. I took the edger out , and started doing a little bit.. before I had a good talking to myself and put it back again for another day.😵‍💫

Had 2 deliveries today seperate times, so up and downstairs for those...

The I took the Shark Vac apart , and with all it's attachments I've boxed them all up with return barcode inside the box, ready for it to be collected by UPS tomorrow.. not time given, so I'll have to get up early again. blieve me getting up early is bad for my health.. 🥴🫣

Went out and raked up another two huge leaf piles.

The 3 kids showed up again and "Ma says we can help you." They had two toy rakes, I looked up the sidewalk and the two women were laughing and pointing, phones out taking pics.

The girls fiddled with the rakes a bit, chattering a mile a minute. Poor little guy just watched it all with wide eyes and kept staring at me. I asked him if he talks, he just stared. His sisters chattered "Oh sure he talks, Dummy" and laughed. But I'm sure he never gets a word in edgewise back at home.

Thankfully they got bored in 15 minutes and headed back to Mom. Granny had already given up and gone back inside.

Just as well. The neighbor on one side of me came out with a leaf blower and I'm sure its shriek wouldn't be any more pleasant for them than for me.

Piled things back up, checked the lawn mower battery charger. Bonus: it isn't recharged yet, so I can sit and rest with another cup of coffee.

One poplar tree (leaning) and all the cedar trees on the east side of the house being cut down. (Shoe for scale)

My son will take the biggest to a local saw mill and cut it up so someone can make a keepsake box for me, as these trees are off my FILs property in Tennessee. Kills me to have to take them down but they really were too big for the space they occupied Also I have info about a (semi) local man that will come get the trunks, so hopefully it will go to a good use

More raking, mulching, bagging leaves then recharging yet again.

While recharging the mower battery, put up a new solar-powered motion-sensing light next to the front porch area. So far so good, it didn't fall down, but I hope it gets enough sunlight there to be useful each night. There is a roof overhang above that area and it faces East, not South.

I'm very happy, thank goodness for the neighbourhood App...at past 10.30pm at night, I've just been able to arrange with a clearance company to come and take away my old tumble dryer and my 2 seater love seat... yeaah ! been looking for someone to do it for weeks..... the problem has always been that the council contractors are not allowed to come into my home and remove them.. I'm expected to take them out and put them on my property border for their collection. ..and they charge per item... so it would cost me £100....but it's impossible as I told them for me to take those heavy items out of my house

This licenced clearance company can come into the house and they're charging me a third less than the council

@CinnamonSugar I really like that you're planning a keepsake box from that cedar for yourself. What a sweet idea to use your fil's tree that way.

It's going to be another overcast and cool day today. And tomorrow. And Wednesday. And. According to the forecast, we won't be seeing sunshine again until sometime next week.

I'll be so glad when all this election crap is over. It's beyond stressful. Tired of commercials, tired of no real news, tired of being bombarded with info from polls, tired of misinformation, disinformation, outright lies and all the rest of it. It won't even be over when the polls close because then there's the counting. >le sigh<

So far my only plan for today is to tidy up The Hovel and avoid anything news related.
